- Motorcycle Shop Makeover! Fresh Paint and More Organization for the shop to be more efficient and look even more professional! This was a much needed update with my workspace and what a transformation it has made!
The goals here were to create a more professional look while also helping the overall look on camera. The wood has been making video editing more difficult with the strange color changes between my phone and gopro. The gray has fixed that! While the shop had to be completely disassembled so to speak for painting it was the perfect time to reorganize and make some further updates to make better use of my space as well as to prepare for planned tool additions.
I used a Kils oil based primer and then basic water based paint all from Lowes. I'm not a paint guy so I can't give you more info than that. My shop is 12x18 and I used exactly 3 gallons of primer and 2 gallons of color but this includes painting the ceiling and inside all the rafters.

Hey everyone before the comments start rolling in about it I wanted to let you know that I wear a respirator a lot along with running my exhaust fan. I make some jokes about the fumes but they are just jokes as I try to be safe when possible. Don't take it too seriously.
Sad that you have to explain. Thanks for the awesome content. Love it
@@cameronscruisers4518 dude every video has armchair experts unfortunately. I try to do my best
@@Vexar thank you! I think I simply needed to get it done at the point I was.
so proud and inspired by you moving into your new shop. Long time watcher here. Keep you the good work
Well thank you so much! That means a lot ❤️
Looks Great BJ! as an electrician by trade I can appreciate how neat our panel is laced. Looking forward to the new year and more builds!!
You should see behind the wood panneling at how clean I ran all the wires. Very sanitary! Thank you though!
Hell yeah man. Like I said on IG…it’s all about that workflow and space utilization! Plus everything has been cleaned now and I’m sure it’s super satisfying now. 👍🏼
Yea the space was already really efficient just small. Cleaning, reorganizing, and refinishing is good for any space though!
Lookd like a good week to get this done. Love it!! My favorite part was the loft painting on your back - classic!
Perfect week for it! I was hoping someone would get that Michelangelo/Sistine Chapel reference lol
Looks awesome man, looking forward to more videos, the quality is brilliant. Keep it up!
Thank you much man! I'll be cranking them out these next months with everything going on!
Looks good!! All about the smile.
Well done bro! Having a good space to work in makes such a big difference. Hard to stay motivated when you don't wanna be in the garage/shop. Cheers!
100% accurate! I have been feeling that I wasn't presenting myself as professionally as I strive to work so this will help on that front as well.
LOOKING GOOD!!!!!!!
Thaaaaaank ya!
Shop looks great! I really like that gray.
Thanks Dave!
...so fresh, and so clean, clean...
Feels fresh and clean in here too!
shop looks great!
Many thanks Andrew!
I love feeling like I've done a bunch of work, even though in reality I can barely be bothered to get out of bed.
Well done!
🤣🤣 I know that feeling of just wanting to sleep or simply watch RUclips instead of editing at 4:30 am to get this video up
Looks really good!
Many thanks!
Very good my master👍👍👍♥️♥️♥️♥️
🙏🙏
Can’t wait to see Wanda back on the channel!!! And the shop looks good!
SOOON! I'm excited to get back to work on that bike and will have much to show! Thank you also
What an improvement dude! I do love the grey 😍
Night and day for sure!
Great job, great organization. I’ve been building a new shop all summer so not much content. But I’m in the same head space with wanting a great designated shop/studio space for content. Probably won’t make my content any better but I’ll enjoy doing it even more than a do now!
Once again Great Job!!
Thank you! The color change actually made the editing side more smooth already on the CX500 video I just put up. Everything just looks better and more accurate. Definitely worth doing
Amazing workshop makeover, I am inspired to do the same yo my workshop, all the best BJ 🙏🏻
Thank you and I'm happy to provide any inspiration possible!
Great job done there! It's always nice to have a clean and organized workspace. I'm doing something similar with my garage to begin (again but well done) the resto-mod project on my cb450.
I'm tuned up for your news and I hope your workshop and channel grow as much as it deserves! Very well explained and really nice builds. You've earned a new subscriber for sure. Cheers from Spain! 😄👍
I very much appreciate that Agustin!
Does look good mate. I was getting used to the wood but that changes the whole look. Great job
Thanks Carl! I didn't really mind the wood In general but hated how it looked on camera
Shop looks awesome, I just went through this too, not to that extent with the painting though (grey looks 👍) but more with the organizing and the Feng shui as you say .
and getting stuff onto wheels! Always jealous of the plywood walls, makes moving stuff around like that easier I'd say.
Thanks Doc and yes the plywood does make it a bit easier. It would be better if they were thicker to make mounting more sturdy but still good
Hey BJ. Do yourself a big favor and keep your new lathe covered when you are media blasting or spray painting. Same for the motor on your drill press and, whenever possible, compressor (the compressor intake could be ducted from outside if you are in a fairly warm climate). I offered up my experiences to help my friends arrange their shops too. Mainly, keep the machines away from dust and grit. I've blown machine motors a few times in the past (getting replacement motors is a royal pain in the ass, BTW) and prematurely wore out compressor pumps too. Now I don't do any blasting, paint, or bodywork in my main shop. Also, now that I have more machinery and precision instruments in my shop, I actually do bike bodywork and paint in a properly ventilated spare room in my basement, and do all my media blasting in a smaller separate building just a few yards from my garage door. A new 30x50 shop is in the future when I have enough $$$$ saved. It will have completely separated areas for the clean and messy / dusty processes. Also, having a separate supply of fresh clean solvent for the parts washer is good for when you are putting engines together.
Mmmmmmm, nice feng shui😌
Feng shui many important!
Hi BJ, great transformation with the paint job! I would also paint the garage door as well.
Thanks Trond! For the door I am not planning on painting as I don't want to lose any heat reflective abilities of the foil backing. It helps keep heat in and the hot out in the summer. Until I painted the shop not one person commented on the door lol.
a new look for a new year
Exactly! Lots of changes happening so this was an important first step!
great colour choice...definitely a lot less variation in the reflected light...and looks smarter too.
Agreed on that lighting. Last night I had a bike in the shop and it looks so much better on camera already. I'm very excited about it
Super jealous! It's awesome having a nice clean workspace that you want to spend time in. My workspace currently has 4 inches of snow...with more coming all this week. Which is a bummer, because NUUT just finished my cx500 Marty wiring diagram.
Well that just gives you time to perfect that harness!
@@BrickHouseBuilds yeah, I'll have to rewatch your vids and make a map and measure all my stuff, then just make the harness inside. I also need to diagnose why my right cylinder isn't firing before I tear up the wiring, hoping it's just a bad spark plug.
Yeah that turned out real nice @Brickhousebuilds Real clean & professional look to it. What is it though with you RUclipsrs & Pillar Drill relocations!! Hah. I see a perfect spot for a banner.....(Cough, Cough....) 😉🏴🤘🙏
Its just a thing we do ;)
That heater you have hanging looks almost identical to the one I put in my shop. I had to run a 220V 30amp power to it, but it heats my 25'X25' shop with with no problem. So if yours is the same power it must be able to run you out of there with excess heat. I need to get some of those torch hangers. mine are always toppling off a shelf and then they fall and bend. Glad to see there's a solution for that. You must have a shed to put bikes in you're not working on so they don't crowd you out. Or maybe inside your trailer.
Same heater for sure and it absolutely will run me out! It works really well. I had a video over a year ago where I slipped and knocked a torch off my bench. A friend saw that and bought me those torch hangers lol. I keep the rest of my parts and bikes at a warehouse nearby. The linked video shows all of that!

I saw this video 2 years ago and painted my garage a similar color. Just thought it was too dark in the garage so I changed it back to an off white so I could see. No complaining, just stating thanks.
@@WillyPark Fair enough. I think I had enough lights to not have to worry
My 50-ish year old high school welding shop teacher customized and painted hundreds of cars and bikes in the 60's and 70's without proper respirators. He'd tell you all about every one of those old street rods and choppers he painted. He'd tell it to you over and over, too - just like you had never heard the story before. He'd also forget what your name was about six times in a short conversation and had trouble finishing sentences....still a damn good welder, though.
Note my pinned comment Scott
@@BrickHouseBuilds Yep, I saw it. Just had to add to it anyway :-). Besides, big difference between today's house paint and automotive paint from the 60's and 70's. There are reasons why solvent based and lacquers aren't used much anymore 👍
Great job! Time to address an elephant in the room...polypro... Its a major eyesore man 😎
I hear ya I hear ya. I havent painted it as I worry I would lose the heat reflective properties of that film. It gets cold in here
Looks Great!!! and that was a lot of work The only thing missing is your logo on the wall. Ready for your next video. Happy New Year.!!
Oh man I very much want to get my logos on the walls. It WILL happen just not sure when! Thank you though!
Can you show more on how your vice is set up for that hitch?
I actually don't think I have good video of it. I just used Square tube with a thick plate welded to it from which the vise bolts to
I was getting ready to make a Michael Angelo Sistine Chapel reference when you were painting the ceiling but you beat me to it. I like the grey with the orange accents, it looks good. Is it possible to to cover that silver PolyPro insulation on the door? That's the only part that feels unfinished.
I knew I HAD to include that reference while painting the ceiling lol 😆 It's funny as in the last year I haven't had a single comment on the garage door but within this video its the main comment focus. As Ive mentioned in other comments I dont want to risk losing any heat reflective properties of that foil outside layer. The garage can get cold and I worry about heat loss. I do agree that it looks meh at best but I like being both warm in the winter and cool in the summer
Whete can i get one of the small parts organisers you have on your work bench ?
Im not sure of a physical place. Id just look online as there are many versions
Very nice, well done! 👍 Perhaps some paint the garage door as well?
Been thinking of that but I'm not sure how the heat reflective abilities would be
@@BrickHouseBuilds I'm no expert when it comes to radiant barrier insulation, perhaps painting it ruins the reflective effect?
@@BrickHouseBuilds btw: it is already painted 'polypro' with quite large letters on them, the vendor would probably not have done that if it ruins the effect 😊
@@kihestad those letters are reflective as well. Not easy to see in the video
@@BrickHouseBuilds aha, best to not mess up the heat insulation. It has been down to -15C here where I live last few weeks. I am so happy for my air-to-air heat pump I installed last year. Now I can get decent temp inside my garage. Metal work in the cold is no fun.... 😋
