    I like how your video is realistic about the actual cost of this transformation. All too often people will do these renovations but not be honest about the cost of each individual step/item for purposes of youtube relevance. Awesome job and gives me a good idea for myself in the future to do similar of potential costs!

    I can't believe I stumbled on EXACTLY what I needed. I'm a video editor scanning through all these construction videos and trying to see how I could apply their renovation to what I need and at a fraction of their space. To see you work within such a tight space AND to build something I am intending to build has given me the confidence I need. Awesome video.

    Its a pretty funny coincidence, I'm sitting at a birch desk 30x72 inches, that I also stained in red mahogany, built it back in 2012. Still useing it to this day, though I opted for a gloss polyurethan finish after being unhappy with semigloss and satin. Three coats brushed on, sanding in between, final coat sprayed with an HVLP. Its a bit more complex though, built in drawers and legs and such. Cool build, keep it up.

      @@DavidBlodgett high volume low pressure, spray gun. Basically a paint gun, I used a cheapy one from harbor freight since I didn't want the urethane to wreck a decent paint gun. Rattle can gets the job done too, but you generally can't get as thick of a coat and cans cost a lot more. If you send your final brush coat smooth and spray that last coat you minimize or remove any brush strokes. Even a foam brush will leave lines here and there and I was being picky,

    to anyone watching: do not fuck around with garage doors. especially if they have a spring in them, there's enough tension in the spring that as you saw towards the end, it can launch things (and itself) and is dangerous enough to lacerate and kill you just from popping out.
    they are stupidly fucking dangerous to DIY with. it's the best couple hundred you'll ever spend to get someone professional to do it. or amongst the best.

So that said all I have ever wanted WAS a garage, and now with health problems, I have had to give up on that dream!!
    NOW first things first, converting a garage to a home office, to me is a stupid idea!! Because these days owning a $30,000 (or more) vehicle IS an investment, and it bothers me, when I see people leave a car in the driveway that DO own a garage!! BUT you have to know too, I was trained as a mechanic, so it also goes against my longing to own old collector cars as well too!!

      @kameronswenson4179 Год назад

      I know this was 3 months ago, but your garage is sloped for drainage purposes. Build the workbench legs longer to account for the slope. If its a workbench meant for only the garage itself then that is a permanent solution. You can do either but its a matter of probably thousands of dollars rather than just spending a fraction of the price on just building the legs longer.

    If I ever get a house, I want to do the same thing, but with 3D printing, and a mini-split. I would need a 3 car garage, since I'd still like to store at least my car inside, so I'd also have to build a wall.

    Curious why you chose three coats of oil based poly over spar?

      Just watching a bunch of wood worker youtube videos, I saw the most recommended thing to do was use poly. Why do you think spar was a better option?

      Honestly I was pretty clueless figuring it out and watching a bunch of subpar tutorials on RUclips. That’s why I made this video, bc I wish I had something like this to reference. I’m sure a real handy man could do it better. Appreciate it, much love
