I bought a gas forge from Dan and it’s just awesome! I bought a two segments with two burners and two doors. It heats up very fast. It runs calmly (not a big roar) unless you run it at max. The outside doesn’t become extremely hot. It’s well insulated, I have the version without K-wool but with the fire resistant bricks. This is good no unhealthy K-wool fibers and the bricks are very easy to shape. The forge is very versatile. I can also use it half by putting some bricks halfway and run it with one burner. It’s really not comparable with cheap forges you see around. This is a sturdy, robust, durable, well insulated, well built and designed forge. I’m very happy with it and can recommend this to every blacksmith! Thank you Dan!
Nicely done as usual Dan - I have two gas bottle/kaowool gas forges of different sizes with the Gameco burners and they work well - but you have me thinking that I want one of yours now instead........ or as well.....
Looking good. Can’t wait to see the “lifty-door-thingy”. Btw…the honesty about what you do and don’t know is refreshing. There are too many know-it-alls out there who lead people into expensive decisions about ideas that don’t work. So, Thank you. Cheers
Thanks for bringing us along for the journey. I re-lined my forge (wool instead of bricks) and new burners, and it's just not as hot as I'd hoped. These last two videos will help me troubleshoot. Thanks!
Right bricks for the right job. what grade brick have you brought and what burners are you using? Also a zircon coating will make all the difference be it brick or wool. Ill do the refractory video soon.
Thank you Dan. I have a very small knife makers gas forge and don't see any need to upgrade it for quite a while to come, but this shows me a better, hotter faster forge design in case I ever need it. (I've only used it a few times at home, I'm far more used to a proper blacksmith's coke forge in the place where I take my lessons. Eventually we will all have to use gas then induction forges as we move away from fossil fuels, but I find this video fascinating as a guide to moving away from coal.)
Hi Dan. As to the door configuration; how about having it roll to the side on a track? Then, if you have the track sloped it can be self closing like an old style fire door. Other than that, your forge is definitely a beast. I like it!
Can you make a version that uses a ribbon burner? I’n america pine ridge burner but I just want the hole cut for a ribbon burner. Propane ribbon burner runs at low psi uses a lot left gas
Looks nice. What i really like is that you use only one burner and somewhat set back. All these forges having like 2-3 huge burners, one close to the door and half the gas burns outside as 2 feet of annoying and dangerous dragons breath are so incredibly badly designed....
Thanks for the update Daniel

very nice design. Forge on. God bless.
Thank you for taking us along with the R&D. 👏👏

I like it. It looks efficient. Yes a ribbon burner makes sense, but as you mentioned, it complicates things a bit with the need for forced air.

Dan check out Pine Ridge Ribbon Burners. You're right about ribbon burners need a forced air source. Thanks all the great tutorials
Suddenly the expert on GAS FORGES ! Correct the ribbon burner type is NOT the only way .

I can't help but suspect that a really cool forge may not be as useful as intended. Surely you want it to be quite warm?
I’ve seen ribbon burners that aren’t forced air. But I don’t believe they perform as well as a forced air burner. But they are out there.
Been a while Dan, been hiding from us? I usually only come here for the cooking, what are you going to cook in that? Thanks Dan!
Would be nice to know what the fuel consumption per hour is.

by the sound off itwe will have to all change over to gas aventually unless you use charkhole nice design though!!
I heard you were moving to America? 😎 Lol nice forge.
