While I like your bigger projects, there's something very fun and just right about videos like this where you are making simple stuff using basic blacksmithing skills.

Hope he reads the comments because its clear to see people like seeing this stuff being done. easy projects for blacksmiths to make that they can sell. Draw pulls, latches, handles etc
Jamie reminding Alec he's a blacksmith and can make one size bar into another. 🤣 You work so well together! We all get too focused or lost in the weeds and forget to step back and remember all the other things we have or can do for what we're working on.

That tea towel rail is lovely bit of work, but it's going to be an absolute hip buster when you're going for a glass of water in the middle of the night.
Great Kitchen Alec, how about a renovation update? Also these little projects are awesome! One more cool thing would be to explore stuff you can bend and forge with box section stock, you know fancy spirals and ornaments etc
Something I liked about the old style of videos: the chaticness and the plan as we go feeling. Of that this video reminded me. I also really enjoyed that whenever there was a roadblock ahead alec would just run off on a entire series worth of side project. And later realize it was not what he needed. The honesty that was there "i have no idea what I'm doing, figure it out with me" paired with "let's jump into it head first" and "I have not only the goal to finish this project, I just want to have fun in the shop and take you along on the journey.". I thought I'd let you hear something that I consider constructive criticism/a reminder of where you came from since you've asked for that. Yes, I would absolutely enjoy the less planned videos that you once made. And the craziness was a part of it. Serious and grownup Alec is weird. Cowboyhat deepvoiced Alec is what we've grown to love (Many were there long before the cowboy hats, but you get the point). And while it could be considered cringy now, I think it admirable that you just had your fun, without really caring what some of your many viewers might think of you. The confidence and happiness were great. You can let yourself still be the child you might still be on the inside ;) Have good day lads!
From the point of view of someone that hanged hundreds of curtain rail and poles your wrong hanger is actually the most effective geometry wise. If the part that is screwed is pointing up instead of down it will be safer and in most case it will hide the unsightly bracket, in your case I imagine you want to show it off but in any case the wrong one works better but you need, ideally a 90º screw attachment or even better angle the holes in opposite directions to give it even more strength.
Reminds me of early days on the channel back in the first shop. Good times! Of course, still loving the multi-part projects too. But this are also great fun. Hey, the house is looking amazing btw.

just to warn you, from a drycleaners perspective, over time you will have oxide from the rail come off onto the top of the curtain if it is not sealed in with some sort of lacquer. had it a few times where i work, where someone has gotten forged rails made and with constant opening and closing, the rings what attach to the rail will rub off and drop it onto the curtains. just so you are aware. also they do look cool :)

You should have used Damascus for the paper toilet holder. That would have been a really good way to tell or recall the importance of what it hold (sorry for my imperfect English)
Good on ya Jaimie for being the voice of reason asking basically "Do you think you should measure first?" on the towel holder and "You can alter the dimensions of material" for the curtain holder. @@alecrabedeau4788 Well then. That's odd to learn. Why did Jamie only start appearing recently?
@@michaelcherokee8906 if you go back and watch old Alec Steele videos, Jamie is definitely there. But was more of a videographer. I've definitely enjoyed his increased appearances in the videos though!
I'm Imagining the call went something like this:Alec - "Can you measure the overhang of the counter from the island please"
Mrs Steele - "Have you made another thing without checking your measurements first Alec?"
