While I like your bigger projects, there's something very fun and just right about videos like this where you are making simple stuff using basic blacksmithing skills.

Agreed. Something about these simple little projects is almost more inspiring to me to get the forge lit
      More approachable I guess.

If you ignore the previous videos, the fact that he said "we bought a house" and Jamie being the only other person in this video, it kind of implies that they bought a house together, ans so it's probably more than friendship and will last a while 😂😂

Tres cool! Very nice pieces Alec, no wonder the local blacksmith was so indispensable in olden times. My kids went to a day camp at the local stone fort when they were younger and they had a blacksmith showing the old ways. I still have a fishing hook he made so the kids could go fishing for a while , it made me imagine what kind of requests that would be generated in a pioneer village.

Something I liked about the old style of videos: the chaticness and the plan as we go feeling. Of that this video reminded me.
I also really enjoyed that whenever there was a roadblock ahead alec would just run off on a entire series worth of side project. And later realize it was not what he needed.
The honesty that was there "i have no idea what I'm doing, figure it out with me" paired with "let's jump into it head first" and "I have not only the goal to finish this project, I just want to have fun in the shop and take you along on the journey.".
I thought I'd let you hear something that I consider constructive criticism/a reminder of where you came from since you've asked for that. Yes, I would absolutely enjoy the less planned videos that you once made. And the craziness was a part of it. Serious and grownup Alec is weird. Cowboyhat deepvoiced Alec is what we've grown to love (Many were there long before the cowboy hats, but you get the point). And while it could be considered cringy now, I think it admirable that you just had your fun, without really caring what some of your many viewers might think of you. The confidence and happiness were great. You can let yourself still be the child you might still be on the inside ;)
    Have good day lads!

From the point of view of someone that hanged hundreds of curtain rail and poles your wrong hanger is actually the most effective geometry wise. If the part that is screwed is pointing up instead of down it will be safer and in most case it will hide the unsightly bracket, in your case I imagine you want to show it off but in any case the wrong one works better but you need, ideally a 90º screw attachment or even better angle the holes in opposite directions to give it even more strength.

Lovely to see some "simple" around-the-house blacksmithing projects. Been binging some of your older series again, and your repeated comments about the amount of material lost to grinding/drilling, etc.: Have you ever considered/tried making canister damascus out of your "doise", all the grinding dust and drilling/engraving flakes? Would that metal even be in a fit state to forge-weld?

just to warn you, from a drycleaners perspective, over time you will have oxide from the rail come off onto the top of the curtain if it is not sealed in with some sort of lacquer. had it a few times where i work, where someone has gotten forged rails made and with constant opening and closing, the rings what attach to the rail will rub off and drop it onto the curtains. just so you are aware.
also they do look cool :)

You should have used Damascus for the paper toilet holder. That would have been a really good way to tell or recall the importance of what it hold (sorry for my imperfect English)

Good on ya Jaimie for being the voice of reason asking basically "Do you think you should measure first?" on the towel holder and "You can alter the dimensions of material" for the curtain holder. But then again your suggestion for where to put the toilet paper holder was silly, so I guess you win some and you lose some. Still you may have saved two projects.

your last name is so fitting to your profession.
I knew a few people in my past who had fitting names to their profession the names are in dutch but translatable.
1 an archeologist named Mr. Modderman translates to Mr. Mudman.
2 a paleontologist named Mr. Hardbot translates as Mr. Hardbone.
3 an antiquarian book collector named Mr. Buch which translates as Mr book Buch was also a dutch TV personality.
4 I had a guy at work who always wanted more of anything and everything his name was Mr. Meerman a literal translation would be Mr. Moreman although the correct translation is Mr. Merman.
5 a homeless street art painter named Mr. Kleurrijk it translates as Mr. Colorrich.
6 a 5th generation photographer in his family had the name Mr. Kiek a Kiekje is pretty much the name for the word photograph in the Netherlands so a translation can be made by calling this man Mr. Photograph also its stems from his families success in the photography busyness.
ps kiek is also an old dutch word for looking so fitting because that's the main purpose of a camera.
    and that's all folks!!
