Are you saying he wouldn't have been one of the 12 best forwards on that roster? The lottery is designed to prevent teams from tanking and I think it served it's purpose for the most part.

This team is ridiculously young as it is and is only getting younger, this season was more or less just getting the rookies acclimated to the NHL. Right now, the Penguins and Capitals reign supreme, you have the Blue Jackets, Rangers and Islanders making advances to the top. The Hurricanes are already making progress in the right direction, but now you have the Flyers and Devils poised to make future gains with them picking 2nd and 1st respectively. Good Lord, this division will be insanely competitive by the end of the New Tens.

It's good that they have the lottery in place as an anti-tank system, but it's a little silly that the 13th place and 8th place team can move all the way up to the top 3. It should be that teams can only move up a certain amount of spots (5 or so) if they win the lottery

Looking back 1 year later the biggest winners: Devils, Flyers and Avalanche. Both made the playoffs this year.
