Refurbishment*
Difference being a restoration puts it back how it was, while refurbishment cleans it up and returns it to use, though often with different aesthetic than the original.
In the Hotrod Scene, we call it Resto-Mod, but hounding someone about semantics is kinda lame dude.
@@ariyanadumon4549 it's kinda a huge difference tho. Refurbishing totally ruins antique value, while restoring preserves it. You'd never "refurbish" a Picasso, would you?
@@michaelsorensen7567 no, I would burn a Picasso before wasting a single calorie on it, because Picasso is trash. This was not a piece worthy of restoring either, it was ugly and he made it beautiful. You're just being a sanctimonious prick, and you know it.
@@ariyanadumon4549 Picasso is hugely important to the culture and history of Spain in the 20th century. Read about his anti war magnum opus painting Guernica and get some culture. You may not like him, and as a person he was very problematic, but his art isn’t trash just because you say so. He went from painting very realistically to creating what was basically a new genre of European art inspired heavily by traditional African art.

Beautiful job and wow what a lot of work, my tip is never overfill and sand when using wood filler, fill flush then fill flush again then only a light sand is required, less filler, less sanding, less time, less mess and less chance of sanding away parts of the surface. but can't fault the end result, cracking job

Wow. This was an absolute piece of junk and you turned it into a quality piece of furniture. The pattern on the drawer fronts was particularly clever. Not such a fan of the blue colour or the handles, but the rest of the craftsmanship was 10/10!

Yes this piece was beautiful but no one cared for it. Thats the beauty of wood..you can transform it because it lasts ..i mean old real wood furniture. Today you have to spend thousands to have real wood furniture and the modern furniture is rubbish compared to old furniture.

Yup. I said to my mobile phone: oops.. too little white spirit used. When it's not diluted enough it splatters. I had that when spraying my fence. And subsequently the street.

Love your talent and detailed work, but I CANNOT believe you had the heart, after all the hard work you put it to show the true surface,...to cover all that wood-character and natural beauty, that’s unique to each tree around the world as finger prints to humans (except some trees live to be thousands of years old),...and...sigh...you hid all of it under layers of something as synthetic and as foreign as blue paint! 😔

Amazing! He transformed a shitty dresser from the ‘50s into a shitty dresser from 2020. This is RUclipsr quality: no craftmanship, no care for the material, everything done by machine, tacky, flashy taste...

Back in the day when old furniture was made, Screws were always tightening by hand... Now it's drills & more drills... I've never seen many restoration with out a power tool been in the video.. Back in the day.. Everything Was done by hand
Pretty interesting results, very well done. My only comment really is that I would wear the dust mask when removing the old finish towards the beginning of the video. I see you were during much of the heavy sanding, but it's hard to know what kinds of finish was used on the piece originally. When you are doing the light sanding to take it off, it can be kicking up wood particles along with oils, resin, mold, dirt, plastics, and if removing very old paint, possibly even lead. I just try to wear a respirator whenever using a power sander.

Wonderful piece! I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice for my project? I'm planning on painting and staining an ikea Moppe drawer set made out of ply wood, however, I'm not sure on the process. Do I prime the wood and paint the area I want to paint, then stain the other area I want to stain and varnish over the lot? Or do I need to prime before staining an painting? This is my first ever project but the tutorial online dont really explain it. Thanks in advanced!

why would you take a piece of well-built antique furniture in perfect quality and completely cover it? why not do this with a cheap piece of modern furniture and leave the antiques for people who will appreciate them for what they are? Or at least use antique furniture that’s on its last leg? I mean no disrespect I’m really just wondering

How long did this all take? And how much do you think you'll be able to sell it for? I'm 95% of the way through a similar project and it has taken me AGES.
Good ideas but shoddy execution. I can see so many flaws in the fine details.
Also, this piece of furniture is now highly impractical. You made the drawers a lot heavier and put on some handles that look nice but make the drawers harder to open.
To quote MST3K: Just because you can edit, doesn't mean you should. Thus video needs an epileptic trigger warning it cuts so much.
