Wish I had known about this earlier. I fear that the only way fans are going to get a proper GA game is if a fan makes it. Someone who loves and understands the franchise. I remember back when WoW was new I tried to design a MMORPG based off of the Golden Axe franchise. I wonder if there is someone out there who has been working on a new game.
Only if they completely revamp the engine and artstyle. Otherwise it would be the same mistake those suits made by believing both series play the same way.
Exactly, I appreciate that the devs cranked this out in 2 weeks. But if what we see was to sell it to the biz types, this probably wouldn't have panned out. Of course, apparently those same people said this was great later on, which goes to show they can't be trusted.
This looks decent for what it is. Those people made that in two weeks? That's impressive. I know it's essentially Conan, but maybe some more Ray Harryhausen elements could be included or giant ass crazy monsters could be put in.
Bummer this remake was never completed. The dev team's story.. just crushes your heart. I believe that if Streets of Rage 4 can happen, so can a GA revival. Wish that this game was completed, and it would be a different story altogether. Maybe someday

There was a Golden Axe Remake in the Sega Classics Collection for the PS2... It moves a little bit like this, but is nowhere near as polished - graphically and gameplay/AI-wise. It could've been much better though; alas, it became lost to the sands of time...
Sega are so awful with their IPs....Don't they like money? Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Crazy Taxi, Space Harrier, Afterburner, Daytona, Sega Rally, Ecco the Dolphin, Hang On, Wonderboy, House of the Dead, Panzer Dragoon and Shinobi just to mention a few.... Where are the current gen sequels?

It was wild to see the reaction to this. I spoke with a few other devs about it, and they definitely agreed that this was handled poorly by SEGA. Should’ve did something involving that team if they had intent on giving the demo to the public.
You got my subscription the first Golden Axe video and my likes with your fair review of Golden Axe 3 my childhood only Sega Golden Axe game I owned. Don’t forget the PS2 Golden Axe remake And the PS3 Xbox 360 Golden Axe Beast Riders. Hopefully by then there will be a new Golden Axe game released 😉 for you to do
Sega stopped giving a damn when they dropped out of the console market. Streets of rage 4 is a good game but the least fun in the entire series, very disappointing. Hopefully sega will release The Revenge of Death Adder on consoles.
Golden Axe was one of my favorite arcade games and Sega Genesis ports. GA II was also good but nothing compared to the OG Golden Axe. Having said that I would love to see a revival of this franchise. I haven't really played a game like it, except maybe the hard to find Capcom D&D Shadows over Mystra game from the nineties, and even then I got to play that maybe twice, so I can't really comment on how good it was. GO Sega!
It would have been awesome. You could have done upgrades and weapon purchases, etc. after each level was complete. Maybe a few rpg elements like speed or power, or magic upgrades.
Probably for the best, Streets Of Rage 4 made the smart move in staying 2D, while games using a pseudo 3D game engine to recreate a 2D experience don't tend to fare well.
Of course, Tim isn't going to be monitoring the comments of this particularly excellent RUclips channel but if he were I would impart how much I enjoyed playing his work. Chin up, mate.
The more people learn about the inner workings of video game production, the more they become convinced of the inadequacy of the management of most major publishers. This industry needs a second Atari Shock to clear out the worms that have accumulated in its belly.
Golden Axe is cool but I feel Vanillaware stepped up with Dragon's Crown. Now a new Golden Axe game would have to live up to that level of standards, which would not be easy. Crown may have lite RPG elements much like the old Capcom D&D games but it also has a lot of Golden Axe in it too and refined.
They should’ve made it more like Die Hard Arcade gameplay with various movesets (some trivia: Die Hard Arcade actually has a hidden Golden Axe re-skinned mode)
Thats a really smart idea in some sense. Hey guys, we worked on this, but didn't finish it, but here it is, have it for free. Then judge from the community if it was worth continuing. This will probably get sega working on it again now....

I love how SEGA describes the game as "Hey! Look at this stupid piece of shit that we forced a bunch of morons to make in a reasonable 2 week period of time! HA! Boy is it bad, but maybe not by much? Wocka Wocka!" They treated the devs like crap, dumped the game before it got polished, and then tried to pass THEIR mistake as a goof, without claiming any responsibility on themselves.
Oh PR, gotta love em.
Golden Axe is a game I first played in 1990 on the Genesis mk1
Golden axe with streets of rage 4 engine anyone
Only if they completely revamp the engine and artstyle. Otherwise it would be the same mistake those suits made by believing both series play the same way.
The suits were right. There is no wow factor.
Exactly, I appreciate that the devs cranked this out in 2 weeks. But if what we see was to sell it to the biz types, this probably wouldn't have panned out. Of course, apparently those same people said this was great later on, which goes to show they can't be trusted.
I would have told them the same thing in response.
we're were so close of getting a new Golden Axe game but they f*ck it up!!!
I must get the original poster w/ the beautiful posed Tyris :-)
I grew up playing Golden Axe and would absolutely LOVE a rival of the game after playing SOR4!! A shame they pulled the plug on this prototype cause it really looks interesting. Would have loved to play as Tyris Flare again, ahhh if only....
We really deserve a new 4-player Godlen Axe game. If only they finished this game.....
They should at least give us Golden Axe Revenge of Death Adder.
There was a Golden Axe Remake in the Sega Classics Collection for the PS2... It moves a little bit like this, but is nowhere near as polished - graphically and gameplay/AI-wise. It could've been much better though; alas, it became lost to the sands of time...
I really hope Sega has learned their lesson, and there isn't this much ineptitude on behalf of management with the new Golden Axe game coming out.
Monster Boy and the cursed Kingdom is a sequal of sorts to Wonderboy, And wonderboy 3 got a remaster, both are brilliant, go check them out!
RISTAR!
Sega burned a lot of bridges Platinum did a lot of references with them yet Sega fucked them over with Max Anarchy
Top Hat ftw
Keep up the good work fella and hope you and Lady Decade (and sproglet/soon to be sproglet) stay safe!
Golden axe ... I loved it when it was fresh, especially the MD version round my mates. This one, not so much as I completely missed its announcement never mind its cancellation 😂
This game looks awesome! What a bunch of idiots for cancelling its completion.
Tim. Dude. They had no idea what they even had. I’m mad I’ll never get to see this come to its fullest potential
i just play the demo, wau i really love it, plz bring it back :(
The people who did SOR4 should do Battle Axe
It was wild to see the reaction to this. I spoke with a few other devs about it, and they definitely agreed that this was handled poorly by SEGA. Should’ve did something involving that team if they had intent on giving the demo to the public.
You got my subscription the first Golden Axe video and my likes with your fair review of Golden Axe 3 my childhood only Sega Golden Axe game I owned.
Don’t forget the PS2 Golden Axe remake
And the PS3 Xbox 360 Golden Axe Beast Riders.
Hopefully by then there will be a new Golden Axe game released 😉 for you to do
I want them to release the revenge of death adder on Xbox and capcom to release AVP
I got more fun from Axed demo than the whole Beast Raider
GO Sega!
I would love to see a new Skies of Arcadia
It would have been awesome. You could have done upgrades and weapon purchases, etc. after each level was complete. Maybe a few rpg elements like speed or power, or magic upgrades.
Really someone should make this cancelled Golden axe game either Sega or someone else by funding it and changing the title some.
Beat’n ups! The hat roots!
This suddenly became a Jim Sterling episode :P
@6:42 wow a new castle of illusions game👍.
Make Ax bigger, add more enemies and stages, and you have the perfect sequel.
For more info on Beast Rider, look up Wha Happun Beast Rider on the Matt McMuscles youtube channel.
It doesn't show up when I search for it on Steam. Was it removed after a few weeks ?
Indeed.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel Does that imply any hopes of seeing a full game at one point ?
Wait, what?!?!?! I LOVED THAT game...i mean I would spend $$$$ on it. I loved the spiritual successor for Dreamcast: Dynamite Cop, as well.
Wait no, I did write it correctly sorry excuse the last correction message thsnx bro keep it up and please River City UNDERGROUND yyyyeeeeaaahh
i hope the guys that made this in 2 weeks will get big success down the road
Thats a really smart idea in some sense. Hey guys, we worked on this, but didn't finish it, but here it is, have it for free.
Then judge from the community if it was worth continuing. This will probably get sega working on it again now....
Did Tim and crew get paid?
We have all had shite jobs with shite management.
I suppose they were employees there so they were already been paid.
Pissed I missed Streets of Kamurocho.
the prototype is wonderfull for just a two weeks of development.
8:43 nope, but GB Studio has me inspired and I’m working on it.
I guess I miss the game. I cant find it on steam.
It was only up for a short time. Honestly, you arent missing anything. Its merely a small stretch of level with barebones gameplay.
You can still get it from steam with these links(Just copy them, and paste them into Firefox) -
Streets of Kamurocho - steam://run/1368430/
Golden Axed - steam://run/1368460/
Endless Zone - steam://run/1368450/
Armor of Heroes - steam://run/1368440/
I think the title of the video has a typo with “outraged” instead of outrage.
It’s a reference to the game title in question.
@@songoku9348
Gotcha
@@songoku9348 I like it! Sadly though, I am just very tired so it was an unintentional typo. Whilst keeping it as OUTRAGED would make a nice little joke, I assume such it would fly over many peoples' heads. The general public are not the brightest bunch!
@@TopHatGamingManChannel I must’ve been the only one who caught that then.
@@TopHatGamingManChannel Sad but true. Intellectuals most certainly make up the majority of population. This world would be a very different place if this weren't the case.
Sega should hire the developers of Streets of Rage 4 to make a new Golden Axe game.
sounds like sega subcontracted a dev studio to make a golden axe prototype, but what were not sure of was what was the end target(console) xbox ,gba ,pc ,stream ,etc? given a team 2 weeks is ridiculous , for what they made i applaud them looks to be a quick steam or gba game . in the likes of old game boy games. upper managment / and ubsurd requsts on a 2 week build didnt help either. Sega should rewrite there description on steam with synposis of incredible work tim and his team did on a game that could of been another future title , imagine if they were given a month/ a year . we will never now
I never thought The Duel or Beastrider were terrible games -- just not good as Golden Axe games.
Of course, my "bad" has been heavily skewed as a result of collecting multiplayer games. Steam, BYOND, the worst of the worst consoles and home computers, and DOS shovelware have definitely skewed my perception, though. At this point, I could probably make a case for Big Rigs being a good game by comparison.
If they tried to make it sound self-deprecating, they really didn't get the "self" part.
