I started crocheting 18 months ago. I learned to crochet by doing amigirumi. I affectionately call my first amigirumi ‘roadkill rabbit’ because it is so bad, but I love her and am so grateful that I found crochet! Thanks for a great video!
This starts in tragedy, so sadness incoming . . . Back in July, my uncle was killed in a car accident. We've been slowly clearing out his stuff from the two rooms he had in the house, (my parents, uncle, and I were/are all in a nice sized house.) One room is going to go back to being a spare room where any guests can sleep if we host someone overnight. The other room, I'm going to makeover into a full on craft room for myself. I'll have a table in there where I can set up my sewing machine, I'll have the bins with my yarn, there's a shelf in there that goes across an entire wall, so I'll put crochet projects up there. I'm definitely gonna use some of these tips when it's really time to start setting up that room. I even already began thinking about one of them - the color palette. I'm taking inspiration from another RUclipsr I watch, and I'm going with pastels, and painting some of her characters on the walls. Also, I have thoughts on the clutter vs neat. Personally, I like clutter. *When it's of my own making.* It makes me feel like I'm really accomplishing the crafty things I'm setting out to do. If everything is neat, or everything is chaotically messy, it drives me nuts and I have to clean up. But I'm sitting here at my computer desk, and on my left are four skeins of yarn, the project I'm working on, and some stuffing, (among the other things behind that pile.) But this is organized clutter to me, and I'm perfectly fine working within it. The right side of my desk, on the other hand . . . Yeah, I need to clean that. But I don't need anything from that side of the desk, so I'm okay with it just being something I know I have to do, but not making it an immediate priority. But yeah, that's just me. I'm gonna try to keep things neat and have minimal organized clutter when the craft room is actually set up, but we'll see how well I actually hold to that, lol.
I'm so sorry about your uncle. It's so hard to lose a family member, sending you and your family lots of love. Being able to have a crafting space of my own has been one of the best things I've ever done for myself. I love being able to keep all my crafting supplies in one place and display them. I love it being organized, but to be perfectly honest, it rarely is neat and tidy. I struggle with that a lot because I'm always creating things, pulling things out and making messes. Lol. But I love it and thankfully it's pretty easy to clean up. I hope you enjoy making your space your own, sounds like you're off to a good start and painting the characters sounds like so much fun!! 💓
You could stick your new labels onto card stock and then clip or tie or otherwise adhere them to your fabric bins. They are cute labels. I love everything neat and tidy.
Your story is wonderful. Thanks for sharing it. I am 80 and just made my first knitted hat and love it. Looking forward to learning crochet too. Have not done either since I was really young, and asked a “grandma” who was knitting while watching grandchildren in the local playground, to show me how to do it. Loved both many years ago, and love them even more now😁. Your amigurumi are something I look forward to learning too.
Great ideas. I have 3 hobbies. Playing the harp, crocheting and soap making. They all take up a lot of space. I have a small nook where I keep my harp, I turned a 10 x 10 shed that we had into a soap cottage and my crocheting gets relegated to a couple of open shelves in my harp room. I was just happy to have everything in one area. There isn't a lot I can do with my space, but there are a couple of small things I think I can do to make it look nicer and be better organized. I have to admit that when it comes to crocheting, my desire to do it really ebbs and flows, so I don't want to dedicate a big space to it. I just buy yarn project by project and try not to keep a big stash, but all the other things take up a lot of room. So off I go to see what I can do to make it prettier and more organized.
I had the fabric bins too at first, and I really disliked not seeing my yarn. But I have dogs, so I really didn't want to leave it in the open. I got clear plastic tubs with lids that fit in the ikea shelf, and now I can see all my yarn without it getting dusty!
Just moved to a new house! Making myself a crafting area. I learned how to crochet the other day. Made some cute granny squares all ready! Can't wait to see what I can make in the future. Thanks for the tips!
I have 2 items I need to put on display. One is a framed lace work by my grandma, who taught me how to crochet. The second is one of my first projects as a kid - a bookmark with a wormlike squiggle at one end. Sure, it lost its googley eyes, but functions as good as new. Love your craft room.
My crafty resolution is to stash dive and get those patterns that have been sitting around for a while done. To do this, I cleared off a shelf and put in some projects: yarn, patterns, etc together. It's a visual checklist and when the shelf gets clearer, I can put in other pending projects. I don't feel overwhelmed, it's organized and ready to start, and I feel accomplished. I also got a decorative dress form to put my knit or crocheted tops and sweaters on. I feel like a fancy dressmaker.
I've had my sewing machines in the basement since we moved in here eighteen years ago and I'm in the process of making our second bedroom my craft room! This weekend, Chad and I are pulling everything out of there, doing some major purging and setting up my sewing stuff, my cricut table and I'm sure there will be lots of yarn in there, as well. I can't wait! I think I'll get a lot more done when it's all upstairs. :) I also picked out a nice sea blue/green color to paint the walls, which are pale pink right now (yuck!). The color is Sea Salt from Sherwin Williams...take a look at it and let me know what you think.
I have been binge watching your videos! I love listening to them while I crochet. I’m a beginner and your videos are so helpful! I would love a deep dive into amigurumi face design, sculpting techniques, hair, blush and stuffing!
You’re always so cheery, upbeat, you make me feel happy, and inspired. You really have come along way👍🏼. Thank you for all the work you put into making your videos. ❤️

Hi, Elise! Thank you so much for sharing this video! I absolutely LOVE those yellow vintage drawers!! Since I first saw them in your video, I've been looking for something similar. 😊 I love antiques! I too display my yarn. It makes me feel so happy looking at all the wonderful colors. I also sew and do other crafts so, I hung up white wire cube organizers up to my ceiling around my room. That way I have more floor and wall space. If you'd like I can e-mail you some pics of my craft/sewing room? 😊
love thisa video....i have 3 times over sold all my craft supplies thinking "this is it" i dont want to do anything craft related anymore, then wanted it back after watching a video or 2. so it became very expensive to get all my supplies back 1 piece at a time.... so this video fit me! regards Diana xx AUS
I got some great tips from you. The color palette is something I would never of thought of. Thank you for that. Now to pick some colors. I'm thinking of something similar to my desktop set-up that I want to eventually do, so they both go along together.
I have so much craft show inventory that one closet is filled with boxes. I took colorful paper and made bright, cheerful labels for the boxes. So much easier to find stuff now!
Hi Elise. All I have is a door storage hanger that I put my yarn in, not much room. You could use Jam label stickers for home made jam, they have nice borders on them. Just a thought.
What a motivational video! Thank you for continuing to inspire all the yarn crafters as they bring more love and joy into our world through their gifts and talent creating with yarn!
Great video! Once all my kids moved out, I took over a bedroom for my craft room. Most of my craft room is sewing related for making quilts. Two weeks ago, I reorganize to have my crochet stuff together in one corner of room. Thank you for the great tips. ⛅️🌤️🌧️
I’m in the middle of purging and organizing too. I’ve been finishing up UFOs at the rate of about 1 every two days. Getting rid of the UFOs clears out a lot of space.
I needed this video right now. I can’t start a project in a messy space but when I’m trying to come up with ideas, I will pull stuff out and put it on a table and see what I can come up with. It inspires me to see the yarn or fabric and patterns to come up with ideas. Thank you for all the tips. ❤
I’m planning to apply your suggestions to my sewing room. I think your point of refreshing is great as I’m sure I’ll find things I’ve forgotten I had. Thanks for the inspiration, I needed it on this grey Saturday.
I m new to your Chanel and also new crochet . I really like your display . I wrote down the books you like and gave a 5 star . I will lOll for Bella coco in my library and of corse others too . I will keep on looking at your Chanel for good advise 😊
I just found your channel and I absolutely love it! You may have posted a tutorial that I didn't see but I was wondering where you got the pattern for the duck in the green beanie, I've fallen in love with that little guy and would love to know how you made it! Your projects and ideas are all so cute and creative! :)
Not sure if you're looking for the seagull pattern, which was designed by Knit Zoo. I don't believe that pattern is available anymore. The duck pattern that I have coming soon will have some tutorial videos to go with it. Hope that helps! 🦆🦆🦆
I’m excited now to rearrange my yarn! I love to decorate with yarn and already made toys❤️🧶I have some vintage suitcases that I leave open with yarn and toys. I never thought about a central color scheme 👍🏼. Thanks Elise…….Karen from Greenleaf Idaho
What a lovely video! I started watching you a few years ago and it’s fun to see how your space and videos have evolved. Your hard work is paying off! What an inspiration you are to the crafting community:)
Great video. I have stuff in 2 different rooms and need to pick 1 room and organize it all in 1 area. I've got sewing stuff, crochet stuff, and paper crafting stuff (junk journals). Plus, bit and bots are scattered in the rest of the house if I'm working on a project! I've work to do. 😜 FYI: Fabrifix or Fabritac are great for gluing things (like your labels) to fabric. The labels will stick, but I'm not sure you can change them. I guess you could put a new one on top! Also, I have a question about amigrumi. When I'm making arms or legs or anything in 2s, one looks good, but the second looks backward when I go to attach it. Are there any tips on making right and left without the front becoming the back or vice-versa? And yes, I've become "hooked" on amigrumi!!! 💖💖💖 you videos! TFS.
Thank you for the suggestion of the fabric glue!!! And for the arms I never mind if they look backward. I just attach them and go! I totally understand being "hooked" on amigurumi too!! 🧶🧶🧶
Hello Elise, happy to see you're well, and thank you for sharing!! OMYGOD I've been wanting to crochet and knit but I haven't been inspired yet this year especially, with classes in my way and stressing me out lol!! But this is a great informative video and I will be incorporating your tips!!❤️🥰🙏🏼🙏🏼
This was a great video❤ I am sitting in my laundry/craft room at this very moment and am making mental notes of what I need to do to “tweak” things. It’s been a year since I last organized it all and things have gotten a little disheveled and I’ve used up a lot of yarn. I am going to spend some time next week RE-organizing and RE-freshing things! Thanks Elise. I think this may help to get me out of the slump
So far I haven't had any moths thank goodness! I do have to clean regularly but it doesn't get super dusty in there.... at least that's what I tell myself. 🤣🤣🤣
Hi. My crochet space is a chair and I have bags of yarn on the floor around me. 😢I have a small table beside me with my crochet notions. I hope to get a creative space soon.
This is great! Also, this is kind of off topic, but have you got the third book of animal friends of pica pau? If so, maybe you could do a review on it? Have a lovely day/night! :)
1:42 I hate how everyone who cleans their craftroom tells me to purge stuff…. NO! It’s my stuff, I don’t want to throw it away, give it away, share it….even if I don’t use it. It’s mine… it’s me…. Hi…..I’m the problem, it’s me, mine…. MINE! 😂😂😂 Yeah… I know what my problem is… but I guess I’m still in a bit of the denial phase 😂
Do you have any recommendations for changing colours symmetricaly? So , I have a paid pattern (StrawAnimals) and i don’t know how is more better changing colours , if i have ex. 54sc , from which , in the middle i have 9sc with other colour .
I change colors in the regular way, it never bothers me that there is a color change jog. Also in this tutorial I show how I change colors: ruclips.net/video/ASzIh5SOo68/видео.html Hope that helps! 💗
How come I keep getting pointy amigurumi ends? Circles with points instead of just circles? I know I'm missing something or doing something wrong but not sure what?
You might not be tightening the circle enough?? Also I always weave the end in my putting it straight down into the center of the circle to bring the center in just a little. Hope that helps! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet I went back to your How to Crochet Amigurumi | Full Video Tutorial & Free Pattern! and what I think is happening, that I wasn't catching before was going under both loops, the full v, at the start when making the sc rather than just a loop. I was going through the back loop only and it was causing it to point I think because I never did one this flat before. So thank you for making this very clear in your tutorial :)
I actually really want to get into amigurumi but everytime I try tightening my magic loop at the very beginning it’s very fuzzy and I can’t recognise all the loops/chains

That's wonderful!! Good luck with your classes!! 🧶🧶🧶
I love your craft room! How do you keep your cat out of the 🧶 😊 I want to display but my cat would destroy😂
They are around yarn so much that it doesn't seem to excite them that much! Or maybe they are just l y cats! 🤣
You've had so much going on this past year, Nicole! Be gentle with yourself!! You are the queen of organizing and decorating!! 🧶🧶🧶
Hello Else.thanks for sharing this with us.i having the same thing.or to Mimi craft in no set space . I'm everywhere.
I hope you will have your own space someday! Thanks for sharing! 💞✨🧶
I so needed this! Thank you!
You're very welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
I love your ideas and hope to put some of them in my crafting space! How do you deal with dust control and moths that eat wool yarn?
So far I haven't had any moths thank goodness! I do have to clean regularly but it doesn't get super dusty in there.... at least that's what I tell myself. 🤣🤣🤣
Hi. My crochet space is a chair and I have bags of yarn on the floor around me. 😢I have a small table beside me with my crochet notions. I hope to get a creative space soon.
Love this video! Also what is the pattern for that super cute little mouse at 11:07? I think I need to make 100 of those!!
Awww! Thank you!! That's Roddy Rat. It's a pattern I still haven't published! Maybe I should one of these days! 🐭🐭🐭
@@EliseRoseCrochet Please do! I would be one of your first buyers! I've never seen a cuter rat!😍😍😍
😊
💞💞💞
This is great! Also, this is kind of off topic, but have you got the third book of animal friends of pica pau? If so, maybe you could do a review on it? Have a lovely day/night! :)
Thank you!! And yes!! That's coming very soon!! ❤️❤️❤️
❤❤❤
💓💓💓
1:42 I hate how everyone who cleans their craftroom tells me to purge stuff…. NO! It’s my stuff, I don’t want to throw it away, give it away, share it….even if I don’t use it. It’s mine… it’s me…. Hi…..I’m the problem, it’s me, mine…. MINE! 😂😂😂
Yeah… I know what my problem is… but I guess I’m still in a bit of the denial phase 😂
Lol!!! 🤣 I totally get it!!!!! I tend to hold onto things way longer than I should too!! 😂😂😂
❤
my brother is going to be mad at me for writing a comment but i have a guestion what is your favorite brand of yarn 😊
Lol! Well we won't tell him! I have a lot of favorites, but one of my favorites is Berroco Vintage! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you! 🤗
Hmmm, I wonder if that is because of the yarn you're using? You might experiment and see if a different yarn works better! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet I’ll give it a go for sure thnx! ❤️
So I think that having a cluttered/messy space is BECAUSE of the anxiety, stress, and depression, not the other way around.
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
