- For a part of the summer in 2023, Cyrus and me travelled around London searching for urban carp. We visited as many places as possible in the process, searching for quality fish or just some action on the bank in general. As we spent many days on the bank, I have decided to include the resulting events throughout multiple episodes, of which this is the second.
In this episode, Cyrus and me face off against the ignorance and aggression of multiple Karens, while simultaneously banking some more of the city's aquatic residents.

Hahahaha amazing. People are honestly so wrapped up in their own worlds and think that catching fish is illegal.. love how the police never showed up.
Another cracking vid again mate I have the same problem on the canal dock I fish in bridgwater somerset I just ignore them for the ignorance of these ppl I pay £50 a year to fish for my rod licence to put all my fish back alive because this is what I love doing as my past time keep going 🎣👊💯💪
The crazier thing is that in one way it makes sense of them to think so, considering how many things are illegal nowadays 😮💨 and worse still is that these days, police are likely to show up for such a thing!
@theHorizonLiner it's funny, you never hear of the people stepping in when someone tries to nick your car or bike, yet a legal past time. Everyone looses their damn mind!
If you do not have permission beforehand, fishing without that IS illegal you ignorant melt !

Youre always a lot more respectful than I would be. Patience of a Saint. Keep at it because as you say everything is private that didn't used to be, you should have the right to fish if you're doing things properly without being harassed by someone who thinks they own everything they can see from their house.

And dont worry about the karens and these ignorant people. I deal with them almost every time when I go pike fishing in canal. Honestly i had the luck to meet some amazing people the last few sessions.

Honestly buddy I take my hat off to you both! You remain so calm during these encounters, I've only ever had one person come up to me and start causing problems and it took me about 2 sentences before I resorted to the old "why don't you just foxtrot oscar, and tell your story walking." 😅 Nice catches though lads! 🎣👍

I go through the same thing fishing in New York City. I've had cops called on me a few times from Karen's accusing me of trying to catch turtles when I'm fishing for carp. I've had the cops trying to tell me I can't fish while I was fighting a carp and I made them Google the park rules that prove I can indeed fish there 😂
A little game to play with the ones that can’t tend to their own business! It involves wearing a mask and when they get to close you basically raise a ruckus and say back away and stay 7 feet away from me right now! make sure you yell that at them!!! They are usually so astonished and surprised they don’t know how to react and usually turn around and walk away especially if you address them in a somewhat angry manner!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂

Great videos ! Curious what fishing gear you use ? Rods , reels , lures / bait and your net, I’m just getting into fishing and no idea what to look at, like your set up as it looks lightweight and portable which is what I would prefer to be similar to your type of fishing . Keep up the great videos

5:16 That is exactly right. You'd think the canals are public. You'd think the rivers are public. But no, they're not. And it's hard to find out who owns a stretch of water. And they have their own silly rules that make absolutely no sense. They're people that were given control over a stretch of water and they're milking it for money while doing absolutely nothing in exchange. They're not maintaining the habitat. They're not cleaning it. They're not repopulating with fish. This is why you're not allowed to take fish, by the way, so they don't have to repopulate. The rod licence you buy should be enough to fish in any publicly owned water. That should be made law.
And what's sad is that the right to roam people hate fishermen because, from their point of view, it's the fishermen that don't let them paddle down rivers. In reality, it's the water owners that make life difficult for all of us.

I dont freshwater fish, but I go sea fishing, which also includes the tidal part of the River Medway, vast areas of the river front that was council owned, flats have now been built and thevowners didnt like the fishing, so they are now no fishing. But my worst Karen encounter was on a beach, where I had cut up what had been frozen mackeral for bait and had this Karen screaming at me and threatening to call the police as she thought it and the lugworm I had next to it were disgusting.

I'm not a huge carp fisherman. Usually, cut them up for bait if I catch them. But the areas you fish are so cool. I'll def be watching your channel more :)
You need to come to the States and fish Wyoming. Most the land is blm (public) land, sooooooo much fishing. Plus cold water trout, pound for pound, are some of the hardest fighting fresh water fish you can catch. So much fun :)

We have Fisherman Harassment laws, which, if in the US these people would get a ticket and criminal summons. Does the UK have anything similar?

I'm in the countryside so not really any urban fishing but even here I feel the pain with locations, I like to lure fish for trout but it's borderline impossible to even find somewhere that will even let you do it, it's all fly fishing elitism or extortionate ticket rates so I end up just on the same course pond time after time, which is overfished itself because it's one of the few places around that doesn't have complete piss take rules. Getting some sea fishing rigs going just so I can avoid it all.
You need to work on your netting lads and try not to lift them in a net when they are bigger, try to use a weighing/retention sling and make sure the fins are flush to their body so you dont damage them.
I wouldnt be so nice about it but only ever had to deal with one karen and two the male verison of karens darrans
One Karen and two of their male equivalents is already something, but I'm not even surprised! If anything they're becoming progressively harder to avoid.

Unfortunately too many people have been poaching fish so people react like this when people fish in urban areas. As a fisherman I see no problem as long as fish are put back

Liverpool has some excellent park lakes and canals. Us scousers are pretty chilled, in liverpool you'd get people being fascinated, intrigued, asking you questions about angling, places to fish!?

Fact is interfering with nature at all in a city will invoke a protectionism response given there's already so little nature able to survive within it
If you make it look like you may be removing what little nature is there obviously you'll get that response
In the US they have hunter harrassment laws, to stop people like this. I would say to them that its your legal right to fish public waters, and if they bother you a second time thats section 1 harrassment. Tired of these idiots bothering anglers, especially younger ones who want to get outside and do something 👍

I fail to see the enjoyment you get from catching carp, no matter how big they are. Theyre like catching an old boot, theres rately any fight in them, and while they might be edible after putting them on fresh, clean water for around three days, the flesh is bland and softly under-firm, and full of blood filled black veins.
Theyre a disgusting fish.
Here in Australia they have invaded the lower reaches of all our rivers and creeks and they inhabit most of our lakes.
They are also in large numbers around brackish eturine waters.
We regard them as an ugly, slimy, disgusting pest and they are officially classed as a noxious introduced nuisance species.
When people catch them they mostly leave them on the bank, for the river rats and feral cats to eat.

I took it down as I realised there were parts of the upload where the frame rate had been reduced significantly. This was likely due to a technical issue with youtube's compression system during the uploading process, which apparently does that occasionally. It's an issue I wasn't previously aware of, as it's the first time it happens with one of my uploads. In my opinion it made for a bad viewing experience, so I decided it was best to just re-upload the video. I've done just that, and the newly published version was uploaded correctly this time!
