i don't understand why people act like it's new thing. Death From Above 1979 had that sound already in like what, 2001? And they are a lot better too. Royal Blood is cool, but still, they're just radio friendly version of DFA97.
It's absolutely not new. But they are one of the first who are using this "bass with guitar amp" thing full time. And they are with 2. People like that very much. But if they will play like this, they are not going to make it. 1 album is nice. 10 not

Royal blood WOW!! Thats all I can say, their like pure,raw,aggressive talent.Heavy riffs,on the bass and the drummer just smashes the fuck out his kit, awesome awesome awesome!!! What that band is doing right now for duo groups is just unspeakable I think!!! Blown away man can't stop listening to em. Dudes are absolutely amazing together period.

Seriously, what is the hype over this band? Is it the novelty of playing kinda generic heavy riffs on a bass through a POG? Because Death From Above 1979 basically did that 12 years ago without the POG and had better songs, in my opinion. Go listen to "Little Girl" or "Pull Out", just to name two.

I have been noticing a tread of new bands with a similar tone and music to Jack White/ The White Stripes. Not necessarily a bad thing, however it is very interesting.

Royal blood is modern rock band yet the way they play and present their music is throwback to 90's grunge rock and their songs are good and tell interesting stories in the lyrics and that is why right now they are like no other rising new rock bands
What makes Royal Blood so good is the clean sound of Kerr’s voice,yes he plays a bass,but with pedals he makes it sound like a guitar,both guys are extremely creative and cutting edge and their timing is dead balls on.

Someone's always "ripping off" someone else in rock n roll according to these people. Jimmy page ripped off old blues musicians now people say RB is ripping off Jack white. Come on people they are inspired by some great musicians, after all they (RB) could be just another hip hop group or alt rock group that we've heard a thousand times over this decade. How about we appreciate a talented band that isn't following the mainstream music scene right now and is actually creating some incredible hard rock tunes regardless of their similarities to other bands, they are still very original and awesome.

I love Royal Blood. Out of all the new music I've discovered so far in 2015, Royal Blood takes the cake.
Although, I must admit, those guys owe quite a bit to Death From Above 1979, a band I've been listening to for nearly a decade now. Check them out, and you'll see what I'm talking about.
+Stormin' Norman The distorted bass sure, but the way he goes about accomplishing that split sound is pretty unique. That's not to say Jesse's setup isn't unique either. But this guy's sound is entirely his own - unlike anything I've heard before that's for damn sure!

that's why i like royal blood so much, they challenge the misconception that rock songs can't be catchy and poppy in a way, but still heavy as fuck. They can blend those two elements so well.

These guys are geniuses not only have they found a way to have a hard rock band without the aid of a lead guitarist! And not only are they unique as hell! But they’ve actually invented a way for three-piece bands to actually still have a hard rock distortion holding down the fort, when the guitarist solo’s literally at this point all the bases we have to do is just step on the pedal during the solo it’s fucking awesome! Pure genius!!!!!!
If anyone likes the Royal Blood sound, you should also checkout Death From Above. They're a tiny bit mellower, but still caught up on something.

I agree that this music is starting to creep back in to the mainstream finally. I would add The Cold Stares(also a duo) and a band called IDLEWAR that are amazing out of the US in CA.

Mark Winiars you dared for a reply but for some reason I was unable so... I've been a Queens fan since the mid ninties, Kyuss before that. I have appreiated all of there stuff up until the latest stuff they put out so that rules me out as a "hipster". If royal blood is the worst thing you can think of to rag on, please compare to all the other trash on "pop" radio these days. These guys are the first thing i've actually heard played on the radio in 10+ years worth a damn. Sooner that later bands are gonna come out influenced by other bands which should be a compliment...so who is the hipster?

I'm not a huge fan of Dave Grohl's voice; in my opinion, the Foo Fighters should be opening for Royal Blood, not the other way around!
Dave does have good taste in music, though.

The Foo Fighters aren't a bad band. They have a few songs I like, such as Everlong. I just think Royal Blood is better, and calling me "fucking retarded" isn't going to make your opinion any more right than mine.
trumpeterjen Foo Fighters over the past twenty one years have released seven albums that have earned them a multitude of major music awards and sold stadiums out worldwide. So as much as I love Royal Blood saying that they should headline Wembley Stadium over Foo Fighter after only releasing one album last year is pretty "fucking retarded".
Just because they've hung around for a long time and other people like them doesn't mean I have to, and using terminology like "fucking retarded" isn't helping your case.
trumpeterjen It isn't just "hanging around" it's called staying relevant which they have done for many years and for a rock band to do so in this day and age is a great achievement. Royal Blood would struggle to sell out quarter of Wembley Stadium on namesake let alone fill it for two dates consecutively. Foo Fighters could sell it out with various other bands supporting them but as a music fan I'm glad there doing it with Royal Blood and Iggy Pop. I retract using the words "fucking retarded" but if you honestly believe that Foo Fighters should support Royal Blood at Wembley then you lack any common sense what so ever.
I think it's all marketing. Royal Blood are good, very catchy, nice riffs even though i have played those when i was 16 but nice. But it's a rip off of Jack White. With a little bit of The Black Keys. It's not original...the band being two guys is what catches peoples eyes. Good for them but goddamn.
Ive never heard that sound come from a bass. I like their music. All music has a general inspiration from someone else, just enjoy it...
I have used pedals to create sounds like that and on guitar (to bass). But that wasn't my point. There is a difference between inspiration and copycat. I don't want to argue with you so good day.

I totally agree with you...these guys are a Jack White/White Stripes rip off. The "two-man-band" thing is done, and the if the band just happened to "accidentally" sound like the Stripes, the vocal style is completely intentional. I am a fan of Dave Grohl but I disagree in thinking this band is any good.

Damn, Dave always sticking by your dying breed of Butt Rock bands. I'm not saying buttrock as in insult, but it's actually used by some musicians to describe bands like Royal Blood, Nickleback, Creed, GodSmack, Chevelle, that something for a dead man band who sounds exactly like Nickelback, 3 Days Down, 3 Days Grace... Wow too many buttrock bands to name. Forgot my point.
