The 5 series bikes are interesting. Thank you for covering some of the details you did because I was not made aware of them from watching the VanMoof announcement video. I think the 5 series bikes are nice but I may just keep my S3 until the V releases.
I've seen too many issues with the X3 like misaligned disc brakes that never stay fixed after taking it to the store, so while I am very interested in the A5 I'm gonna wait and see what people think before making that kind of investment.
It certainly looks great, but having no standard removal battery is such a huge fail for me. I live in Amsterdam (close to Vanmoof HQ actually!) and hardly anyone here brings their bike indoors - unless you live on the ground floor or have an extremely rare elevator, its impossible. It's a city bike - most folk live in apartments, upstairs! So charging has to happen via a portable battery, and if Im spending this much money it shouldn't be an optional extra. I also agree on the phone mount - needing to buy a specific case is a really dumb design decision. And not having a speedo is annoying too! I always find them very handy for general fitness - its motivating and useful to be able to see/track your speed without having to rely on extra devices like phones etc. It feels like Vanmoof have stuck to style over substance here, removing practical features for the sake of looks. Which is ok! Im sure they will sell lots. Im going to test drive/ride the Veloretti electric Ace instead I think. Not quite as pretty as the Vanmoof but it feels like a more serious and better equipped bike - removable battery as standard!
I personally really like the fact that the battery is not removable. This way you never have to worry about the battery being stolen, which happens all the time in amsterdam. The battery pack isn’t ideal but it’ll do the trick, and its better than having to walk around with your battery everywhere because it will get stolen if you don’t.
@@Lankyhail Yeah literally no one leaves their battery behind in Amsterdam on a bike costing over €2k. You would be absolutely crazy doing that, which is why no one does. Also, to repeat my point, hardly anyone in a city lives on a ground floor where you can roll your bike inside and charge it, or has an elevator. This is a city bike. It makes no sense whatsoever to have a city bike with a fixed battery. Also, what if something goes wrong with the battery? It would mean getting it factory repaired - huge hassle, large cost. Replaceable battery, just order another. Also, i would never want to leave a bike outside with a battery in Northern European weather, no matter how weather sealed. The cold alone would affect it hugely over any length of time. Its a stupid design decision however you look at it, beyond aesthetics.
You can’t leave an electric bike outdoors anywhere in the USA too much theft and will be stolen right away but also bad for battery being left in heat and cold during the summer and winter.
I'm looking forward to seeing your full review of the new VanMoof's. The only competitor I see for the new VanMoof is the yet to be released Stromer ST3 Pinion. If VanMoof is an Audi, the Stromer is a Ferrari. Very different but both compelling.
This video is clearly one of the breakout successes on your channel with almost 80K views, are you planning to do a follow up video on the VanMoof bikes or make more micromobility focused content in the future?
I have the Cowboy 4, and I can see quite a few off the features from the Cowboy 4 have been brought over. A phone mounting point, torque sensor, slightly smaller frame. A friend of mine has the S3, and compared to Cowboy C4. Overall we'd agree my bike is better, only thing about the S3 that's better, is it's less effort to ride, goes faster (there's an app that allows the bike to give speed assistance above the legal limit, so technically cheating but yeah its faster), boost button and kick lock/alarm. However, the C4 is lighter, the battery charges quicker and is more efficient/gives better range, C4 is very reliable, done close to 800 miles, no faults or glitches, the app is slightly better, the bike is a lot smoother to ride, it's never clunky when spending up like the S3, the motor is more quiet and responsive and it feels just like a normal bike. So if you want a more authentic bike experience you get the C4, but if you want a faster more effortless ride you get the S3. Will be interesting to see how the S5 is, and if they've really addressed the problems with the e-gears. However, given the battery capacity hasn't massively increased, the matrix display is gone, and the bike is even heavier, I'm not sure the bike will actually be that much better. I feel VanMoof should of just fixed the gears on the S3, added a torque sensor and added a phone mount. That would of probably appeased the VanMoof riders out there more.
Is it me? Because I'm underwhelmed with the S5 & A5? Yes they are beautiful designs but they are still heavy and still come only with a 250 watt motor? I was hoping for a bigger leap forward.
250 watts is the legal max in the EU, if they exceeded this limit it would no longer be classed as an e-bike - you’d have to worry about plates, insurance etc.
@@neeleycorcoran3238 Ooo... I see. I didn't know that. Thankfully we don't have these laws in the U.S.... yet. C'mon, VanMoof could still give us a 500 watt motor on a bike that weighs less than 30 lbs. There are many bikes with these specs for less money then the VanMoof.
Considering all the unique and well designed aspects of this bike, I am surprised it hasn't a simple suspension fork -- for both comfort and safety. This should be standard.
Thanks for getting this out so quickly. Did you get a chance to see the new accessories such as racks? Once I see early adopters report an improved level of quality and customer support, I’d be inclined to order an A5
Can you use the app, or Google MALS in the phone to have a route in GPS, PUT THE PHONE IN HOUR POCKET, AND THE LIGHT IN THE BIKE TELLING YOU WHEN TI TURN TOMARRIVE TO YOUR DESTUNATION .
This VanMoof doesn't have that functionality, but that is actually a great idea, would be really helpful. I guess because theres now a phone mount, they would expect you to mount your phone
@@amirdiabe right but they also did not no that when there was no phone mount. May be there is no API no do it with google maps and they would have to create a map app and that very complicated.
A Co2 sensor? so you can choose a different route? BanMoof is charging money for That? As if choosing to ride an E-Bike isn't enough? I was seriously considering adding VanMoof to my stable of bikes until I heard That! There's Practical and then there's Chivalry . . . Give me a Break!
Feels like a downgrade. Less battery capacity, fewer shifting levels, speedometer that doesn't show the actual speed anymore (wtf), no displaying of error codes any more, more overall weight, more expensive, and much uglier design in my opinion. None of the expected actually useful upgrades like waterproof buttons, USB charging port to use it as power bank, belt drive and so on. I'll definitely keep my S3.
I feel like they really need a bike for driving with a kid. I feel like that's when people truly consider getting an ebike? As in a carrier with one wheel in the front. And even at 1000€ more a lot of parents would gladly pay the not have to deal with it. While the contrast from just getting a cheap bike, it's too much for most people.
In my opinion more a S3B as an S5. What are the real innovations here? The smaller battery? :-) Okay there is a torque sensor but who needs it? I keep my S3 with more Gears sexier design, welding and finish.
100% agree. The presenter said it's the S5 because it's been 'completely re-engineered'.. sounds like total marketing nonsense. People are not stupid, you can see it looks so similar to the previous model with a few tweaks. I was so disappointed by this unveiling considering it's €300 more!

Handig is wel dat je telefoon op het stuur kan en onderweg opgeladen kan worden en dat je je ondersteuningsniveau vanaf het stuur kunt zien/regelen.
Be careful! If you live in North America, Vanmoof is a scam!! I spent $3,900 $US on a fully decked-out S3 on August 15, 2022. I live in Windsor, Colorado. The bike did not arrive until February 2023, six months after my check was cashed. It came broken and missing parts. It does not shift gears and the motor does not work, never has. It is now April 7, 2023. They can take six months to ship the bike, but you only have two weeks to return it even if it arrives broken and you don’t figure it out because it is the middle of the Colorado winter.
