Wow, just watched the launch video of the VanMoof S5 and A5; if I ever get the funds to purchase an electric bike this will be the one I buy, what an amazing machine designed by an amazing team. Well done...
Nice! But: Vanmoof mostly targets inhabitants of cities. What percentage has a charger where they store their bike? I guess probably 1 %. Unfortunately a non removable battery is a no-go for me. 😐
Please bring these bikes to Canada. Montreal is considered the bike riding capital of North America, and Vancouver is catching up. But what's holding both cities back; is the number of bike thefts. The VanMoof's anti theft system is something that is REALLY needed.
This is a list of questions I and answers I’ve found coming from a power user. Context: I use my Vanmoof x3 bike every day for 2 hours for work commute for the last 3 years, I have over 1497 miles logged as of typing this and live in a extremely hilly area. Questions I have as a power user: Is the motor stronger, will it take on steeper hills? It looks like it will have 86tork vs 59. Is there any suspension or should I still get a shim and seat post change. Doesn’t seem to have any suspension. I’d suggest getting the smaller frame to fit a suspension seat post like a thud buster. Then adding a 32 to 33.9 shim. Is the battery bigger? If so how much? Not sure yet maybe slightly bigger, extended battery’s are still separate and won’t be added til later after launch. Is there a trade in option for older bikes? Doesn’t look like it. Do the breaks grind as much? Do they stop faster then the x3? The new brakes have slotted holes, so dirt may be less impacting on the disks. It should also decrease heat faster. Are you adding a black option? Does not look like it. What is the phone case going to look like? It’s a Vanmoof specialty case that attaches to bike frame system. Are you adding a bike rack and front carrier? Most likely. Is there a motor in the middle? No, the Vanmoof v will however. Are the parts more reliable? I’ve had my bike break down a few times these few years. The computer/battery has failed 3 times, the gear shifters exploded once, and tons of flat tires. I guess I should look at the v I do want to say, I LOVE my Vanmoof x3, but I purchased it at 2,100$ back in 2019. I got both the 300$ security tracking and the 250$ warranty. On top of that I did add a vanmoof rack 80$, pannier 120$ , and front rack 40$ and battery 500$. Over all the value of my old one is still pritty high and I don’t think it makes sense for me as a power user to change to a new bike dispute the fact I rely on it so often. We shall see however.
I am in love 🥰 Colleague of mine bought the S3 and pointed me into this direction and I will now be buying an S5 and get rid of my car. It will be a bike and train ride to work soon.. Bedankt allemaal voor het maken van deze fantastische fiets! ❤️
Absolutely delightful, I have 2 requests for anew iteration, a built in locking mechanism that can lock the bike by the frame to a post, or other solid structure. And a detachable battery for easier charging
Me 2 i have an S1 sadel on the lowest haha and the S3 did feel slightly better but i can't wait to try both S5 and A5 for a test ride later this year. Ow and then i wait for the reviews of the new drivers haha then buy it. But it looks the be a better VM then the S3.
Still not sure. I am 5’7 (with short legs haha) and had difficulties to use the S3. Ive ordered the X3 but now I don’t know if I should order the S5 or not.
I think the main big thing about this new version of the bike is reliability and quality, cause overall it does not really seem like a new bike. I like it tho!
How long does it take for the battery to fully recharge? Does phone charging take away from your battery usage? Does turbo boost take away from your battery usage?
I would love this to be in my country, please bring this revolution to Canada! Ontario, Alberta, and Vancouver would be such awesome places to ride these bikes in.
A technological rehash with mini upgrades and without addressing any of the real issues; easier user servicability, removable battery, better gear mechanism (not to mention much requested belt drive). For all intentions and purposes this should be considered as the S3 mk II.
They're trying to become the Apple of ebikes. You'll never get "easier user servicability" with VanMoof. Planned obsolescence is part of their business model.
I‘m doing my 4000km in my 5th month now. Got a S3. So far no issues on southern Germany roads on my daily commute. Now the S5 seems to be overthinked in the way I would to. Looking forward for the release and a test ride. Wish you the best 🤘 and keep on moofing 🚲💨💨💨
Fast charging would be a great feature to add, say you forget to charge your bike overnight or the charger wasn’t seated right and didn’t charge on accident. What do you do then? How long will you have to wait to be able to ride for your commute?
i mean i like it looks cool but i think ill wait to see what the vanmoof V is like also not a massive fan of only one colour option would of liked it in black
Ok, if you are going to design & build every part of the bike, it would be nice if you designed parts for all your e-bikes, old & new. I would love to add front shocks to these bikes cause not all roads are made nor thought of as bike lanes. Also, it would be nice to upgrade parts from newer bikes with older bikes.
I have a belt on my bike and after two years it needed to be replaced... A chain will last much longer, you just need to put a bit of oil on it now and then.
Hi, you have said there are 3 power assist levels, I have not seen how you move from one level to another, I cannot see a change button, can you help me with this question please, Kind Regards

I sure hope it’s not integrated. I use another system for my bikes, motorcycle and sports. No way I’m going to change all that to the SP-Connect system Van Moof decided to force upon me.
Hi Aksel, our bikes have their battery built into them, so it's not possible to remove it to charge. For more info, visit our webpage: www.vanmoof.com/electric-bikes
Still no removable battery? And I’m guessing we can’t use the phone mount with our own cases huh? And to top it off these’ll probably cost more than the previous models despite not a single thing being really different. Fancy lights don’t count.
In another video they said that the phone mount is a SP-Connect mount. Which I hope is replaceable for something else since I already use QuadLock for everything (2 bikes, motorcycle and sport arm strap). I don’t understand though why they would put something so brand specific on the bike for a mount. You’ll need to buy a special SP-Connect case to be able to use the mount they installed on it. Just let people choose themselves…
So much is improved, the kicklock, smartunit and e-shifter for instance... also the chain tensioner, brakefluid reservoirs and handlebars are improved and yet you claim there's not really a difference? dude, get real... 😵💫
@@Hankvdb And I'm still claiming there's not really a difference. Barely anything has changed. It's literally the same bike with some very minor changes and probably some very major price increases.
