    I swear, I'm rendered speechless throughout and at the end of all of your videos. Even though you're throwing a whole load of information at me and it's definitely content heavy, I find myself memorising everything along the way and I don't even realise it until you do your little recaps. You just have a way to make all of seem digestible. Thank you so much for the time and effort you spend on these videos

    I watch these videos with earbuds in and my family always think I'm watching a TV series or movie or something lol.
    Typical things I say outloud while I watch Ninja nerd Science video lectures include:
    "Wowwwwww."
    "Woah, that makes so much sense."
    "Huh, wow."
    "Hahahaha"
    "Phagocytosis!"
    "😮🤯🤩🙌🤓" (It's more of an awe-related gasp noise followed by compete joy of understanding a concept while simultaneously so intrigued with a new ignited interest to learn more about that concept and the inter-related web connected to it... Lol)
    "Yes!!! Yaaaaaay!!!!"
    "Omg, really?!?!"
    "Well that makes sense."
    "No way 😲"
    "That's amazing"
    "That's awesome!!!"
    Laughing, giggling, and appreciating irony and humor in our own biology that I'd never appreciated our understood before.
    These videos are soooooo helpful. Seriously, thank-you to your entire team!!!!

    I feel like if 1/3 of the adult population age 18-48 had even 1/2 this level of understanding of physiology, we'd all be so much healthier aaaaaaand our Dr's appointments would be real discussions that are valuable and informative partnerships instead of receive bandaid style treatments to chronic diseases that are preventable with lifestyle modifications (and patients that become intrinsically motivated because they understand what's happening, and know the difference between the parts they can control and the parts that they can't control, and have the courage to make the changes they need to make).

    13:26 wow moment...
    I now better understand sin and cosin math concepts because I watched this.
    Unexpected, unrelated, but unbelievably helpful for solidifying my understanding of everything. Lol
    I get so much out of these videos, and so much more than I could've imagined too.
    Like, for example, when I clicked on the 3 year old video playlist to cover immunology, I was expecting the pathology of inflammation etc but I definitely didn't expect to realize that grade 10 pre-cal has a place in my head at all (especially considering I'm almost 36 now, so I quite literally took it 20 years ago in high school, and I took no calc at all in university)... So I'm impressed it's a concept that is there at all, nvm the mind-blowing realization that it's actually a USEFUL concept to help in BIOLOGY (next you'll tell me it works in sociology and psychology and my jaw will drop lol), so that we can better understand, analyze, track, assess and measure the historical log (ack, more math!) data left behind by the biochemical reactions due to the underlying properties particle physics and laws of the universe. 🤦‍♀️😂🤯🤩🤓

    where did the IL-4 activating the naive T-cell come from? you just said (approx 18:30) that IL-4 came from Th2 cells and they produce the IL-4. however, you said IL-4 was needed along with IL-2 before the proliferation can occur and become Th2 cells

    • @JoTKirk
      @JoTKirk 6 лет назад +3

      Here is what I have found.
      --Immune system makes Th2 to fight off helminth organisms, like parasites and worms.
      --Basophils are the first cells that interact with antigens from the parasites. When activated by these antigens, basophils produce IL-4
      --As the adaptive immune system begins to respond to the downstream effects of the infection, the predominant cytokine is IL-4. It's a small amount but it is enough to preferentially turn naive T-cells into Th2
      --The process is a positive feedback from there, because the Th2 cells make more IL-4, which in turn ramps up the number of T lymphocytes becoming Th2 cells.
      So, to answer your question, I believe the initial IL-4 comes from basophils which react to the helminth organisms. I am still studying this in my first year, however, and would love confirmation from someone with more mastery on the subject!

    • @tuni31
      @tuni31 6 лет назад +2

      "Upon activation by IL-4, Th2 cells subsequently produce additional IL-4 in a positive feedback loop. The cell that initially produces IL-4, thus inducing Th2 differentiation, has not been identified, but recent studies suggest that basophils may be the effector cell.[5]" - Sokol, C.L., Barton, G.M., Farr, A.G. & Medzhitov, R. (2008). "A mechanism for the initiation of allergen-induced T helper type 2 responses". Nat Immunol. 9 (3): 310-318. doi:10.1038/ni1558. PMC 3888112.
