I just tried this & WOW!!! I’ve never hit a chip so effortlessly like that before… Best coach on RUclips right here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great advice on the wedge matrix.
Thank you
Thanks for bringing light to my short game !! I have been too many years in the darkness!! Best regards from Spain.
Amazing! Glad I could help you with your short game!
best instruction on chipping for me .. the thought of pulling the handle up really make it easy to hit clean shot
It’s such a crucial key! Great to hear it’s helped your chipping!
SO GOOD! Thank you once again!! You’re really really good you know it!? 👏👏
Thank you Janice! Means a lot to hear that 😁
Very wierd Giles because I was always taught to hit down on the ball and avoid scooping all of a sudden this method has transformed my chipping by hitting up against what everyone advocates
It makes the shot so much easier
Thanks so much for your tuition I'm tempted to try this on longer shots
Best regards from Arnie in South Africa
You are hitting down you’re just applying a certain force on the club that allows you to release it correctly
@@Gilesgillgolf OK cool got it will keep it 👆
@@immermanarnold2938 good luck
Excellent presentation Giles Will give it a try Always been an unpredictable part of my golf game Thanks 👍
Thank you John! It’s a tricky part of the swing but I’m glad I could help!
Tremendously helpful!
Glad it helped John!
It's like your elbows extend on the back swing and contract on the follow through, that's my swing thought, btw I tried this today and boy oh boy the contact and consistency is next level! This method really shallows the club and engages the bounce so well! Thanks Giles, excellent lesson!
Basically yes! Great to hear a it worked and you enjoyed the lesson!
Brilliant 🏌🏻👌
Thanks Paul! Glad you enjoyed the video
Another great video Giles! I'd like to hear your thoughts on greenside bunker shots.
Will definitely add it to the video list & get my thoughts across in it 👍🏻
what a secret you have just revealed! Great work!
Thank you Juan! It massively helped me with my short game so hopefully it does the same for you!
no-one knows golf like Giles nice one 👌
Thanks man! Love working with you 💪🏻
Fantastic analogy love the channel Giles thanks 👏👏👏
Thank you Chris!
@@Gilesgillgolf could you do a video on gaining distance or swing speed please and thanks
@@chrismadden6047 already done one. Was my last video
@@Gilesgillgolf what’s the name of it and I will check it out now. Thanks

Looking forward to giving this a go. How do you master distance control from 100yards in?
That’s like a mini full swing but I do have a video on this. It was one of my first long form videos so have a scroll down and you’ll see it 👍🏻
It does work to hit the shot cleanly, but for me the loft causes too much backspin for a chip shot. The ball stops quickly, so nice little low pitches.
I was using a 7 Iron from just off the front of the green chipping 30 feet to the back, I will try again with a 6 Iron and 4 & 5 hybrids that I now use.
Oh 100% this is just a key concept to use. Short game is about adaption and getting creative so experiment as much as you can
Brilliant…Question in my mind is how far one get this into 3/4 wedge shots or sand play. Much appreciate your advice
So this is for finesse wedge shots which is essentially anything inside 40 yards. This does also apply to bunkers around the greens
I hit the ball crisp with the hinge and hold, when I need a lower chip/ pitch
You can do yes but you’ll be making some sort of compensation to do so (dipping of some sort) but you can definitely make it work
Hi Giles, this concept is totally new to me and I’ve been playing for over 30 years but it makes total sense. Does the principal apply to all golf shots?
Thank you! No just for shots inside 30 yards!
This upward movement is it just releasing the right wrist angle in the downswing with a body rotation?
You can still have a downward force and throw with the right so I’d say it’s similar but no it’s not the same
Would this be a technique to use for a bump and run as well? I always try to deloft a bump shot
Yes the principles still apply but you can use this technique whilst having a lot of shaft lean
Just curious, does this work from the rough? What about downhill/uphill lie..?
Yes it’s very similar however with every shot you do have to make subtle alterations
I shot 84 today and one hole hit 5 over because I thinned it 4 times across the green 😂 was quite embarrassing
Oh no! Hope this tip fixes it for you
@@Gilesgillgolf I bought a new vokey m grind lob wedge and was determined to do a fancy shot, it did not happen 😅
I have a short game video coming out soon so be sure to check it out
Just abit random but where bouts in the uk r u and what course do you play at? 😂
I’m in the south & coach out of Bletchingly Golf Club
If your pulling the grip up why don’t you miss the ball ??
Because as you pull up on the handle the club head will release down getting the club back into a vertical position which will allow you to make contact with the ground
