If this game reminds you of acid, I'm concerned that what you've taken was not in fact acid, but instead DPH, Datura, K2, 25i-NBOMe, or all of the above.
The writing, man... I've never been more disappointed by a sequel to one of my favorite games. There is so much ludonarrative dissonance that I kept making the not-good stank face every few minutes. I mean, I'm not gonna type out an essay breaking it all down (because I'd have to type A LOT just to get a solid chunk of my criticisms down but I don't feel like it's worth the effort), but even just the fact that towards the beginning, people start dying due to unexplainable phenomena, you're playing as an FBI agent, and yet she's all like "wow, this case is really exciting!" and cracking jokes (plus all the so-called "millenial writing" tropes all over the place) evokes the kind of tonal whiplash that you'd see in the average phase 4 or 5 MCU film. When Nightingale's corpse attacks and that fight ends, the cops are the only ones in the room that are potential suspects for the killed cops (which NOBODY acknowledges, let alone with the seriousness appropriate for the circumstances, but whatever I guess lmao), plus the other guys even said they heard gunshots, yet absolutely no comment about it when they see dead cops... My God man, it hurts.
There were a lot of really good ideas here and some cool sensory fuckery, so it's a real shame that the execution is so lacking.
... I'm just realizing I should probably delete this comment at some point because most of the discourse around this game seems to be giving it unbridled praise, and I know how some people get when they hear criticism for a piece of media they love on the internet. I'm not attacking anybody, I'm criticizing a piece of media (which by the way, I'll repeat, is part of a franchise I have loved since when I first played the first game).

    • @nickwayne2
      @nickwayne2 24 дня назад

@@mikeexitscome on, nobody’s gonna attack you for making a good point, but it’s also really subjective, dialogues feels real and it’s all that matters, and it’s explained why Saga and Alex makes jokes or are excited, they’ve seen a lot and bright falls saw more stranger things than the feds. I think that’s just one way to look at the game, and there’s no wrong or right when nitpicking details

@@serluc5038 a big recent one for me is Wanted:Dead. It's a fun action game with a story that deals with AI. It talks about how our attachments to other people differentiate us from AI, the main character has a nice subtle arc of learning to appreciate her humanity, and it has a bit of fun corporate satire as well. This went over the heads of pretty much every reviewer, I think because they saw weird dialogue and performances in the first cutscenes and just wrote it off as bad and not worth engaging with. If the game had a reputable developer (and time in the oven, its obviously rushed/compromised) you would probably be hearing reviews say the story was pretty good.

But hey man, indie games often need just one person to pick it up and talk about it, and if you feel like you have something important to say, you should write/talk about it! I can also strongly recommend switching characters whenever you have the chance. I played a bit too long as Saga, which meant when I hit the "point of no return" of her story I then had several hours left to play as Alan Wake before finally being able to continue both stories. Keep switching, keep playing, the game will flow better that way.

"Wait up yall. I need to concentrate.
Ok Wake is awake and he has to fight the evil wake, "Mr. Scratch" otherwise known as Alan Sleep.
But he doesn't care, cuz Alan Wake can kill a Bulldozer with a flashlight!
Warlin Door is over there, you think he's nice, but he is mean! He has to interview Wake because Alan Wake is a famous Writer portrayed by the Finnish Actor Ilkka Villi in the live-action segments but voiced by the american actor: Matthew, who is also Dr. Casper in their last game "Control" which had an Alan Wake DLC.
In the game his novels are based on a Max Payne-like character called "Alex Casey" who looks like the real-life writer of the game Sam Lake who appears as himself in Alan Wake 1 AND also looks like Max Payne from the game Max Payne 2, and Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2 and both characters by James Gunn, but it isnt really Max Payne because that ip is owned by Rockstar Games.
Now, because it is written by Sam Lake Alan Wake is trapped in an Evil Lake called the Dark Place which is just New York.
You also play as a new protagonist called "Saga Anderson" who teams up with an FBI agent called Alex Casey who looks identical to the Actor who portrays Alex Casey in the movies based on Alan Wake's books, and hes also a detective voiced by James Gunn but its just a coincidence.
Saga has psychic abilities and her daughter drowned because so did Alan Wakes wife because he (Alan) is a reincarnation of the writer Thomas Zane who's wife drowned.
but whats fucked up is that Alan Wake no longer has access to brand-name batteries.
Remember how Max Payne was like a comic book but then it had a TV Show in the game, Alan Wake 2 is the pinnacle of this, in the first game you watched commercials for Verizon Wireless but in Alan Wake 2 you watch commercials about this kinda stuff: (Oh shit this coffee is shit).
AND you can go into the Movie Theatre Level and watch an entire movie Directed by Thomas Zane father of Max Zane, top THAT you fucking stupid game Kart-Field.
Whats the best part of Alan Lake is the music, because the lyrics are so real to reality.
For this whole game I never knew where to go and then the song came on and went: 𝅘𝅥𝅮 I lost my wayayay, lost my waayayay. 𝅘𝅥𝅮.
Now this Video is over but we still have to talk about the- one more part of the game where they go "Show me the Champion Of Light" you know what I'm talking about. (Ingame) "Hmm Mmm Hmm Champion Of Light" This guys KNOWS what I'm talking about "I give you da harold of darkness".
𝅘𝅥𝅮 SHOW ME THE CHAMPION OF LIGHT 𝅘𝅥𝅮
𝅘𝅥𝅮 I'LL SHOW YOU THE HERALD OF DARKNESS 𝅘𝅥𝅮

I don't know how to explain how clever Dunkey is. This video is exactly how playing this game felt.

I can't believe he didn't stream this one 😭 the last one was crazy. My fav part was the cutout Alan Wake that they brought everywhere

This game was awesome. Hearing you're explanation is pretty much what was going on in my head by the time I finished it, just with a different accent. Great video.

This video is a SPIRAL into the madness that is Dunkey's mind after playing through Alan Wake II. Gonna have this one on LOOP for awhile.

That song is by 'Poets of the Fall'. They were in Max Payne 2 with the song 'Late Goodbye', and I think some other works Sam Lake was involved in. They've got some good music!

It's so fucking stupid how I watched this a month ago and found it funny as hell because I couldn't understand anything and now that I'm turning into a Remedy fan, I actually understand just about everything talked about in this video and found it strangely more coherent than the games.

You know when you step back and take a real good look at the bigger picture you could really see the Yoshi's Island references. Bravo Rockstar
