I love that you don’t care about slapchop snobbery. Slapchop really reinvigorated my love for the hobby. That’s all aspects of the hobby - I could put different armies on the table, play different systems, work through my backlog. Also, the little dopamine hit I got from completing models got me back into painting “normally” for fun again after a while too. Slap chop completely reset me!
Great video. I always found painting up Rohan units a chore but contrast and speed paints made life a lot easier. Look forward to seeing more LOTR MESBG content on the channel.
@@MiniatureGameMontage It's a great game, my favourite gameplay/ruleset closely followed by Bolt Action. Starting the quest of the ringbearer campaign in a couple of weeks so plenty of flavour to be had.
Hah, if somebody gets mad at slapchop, just slapchop harder. Isn't much they can do about it, and you'll end up with more game-ready models! I do think the more muted end result of slapchop works for the LotR game because it's supposed to be more "realistic."
Been using Slap Chop varient with a brown primer a pale sand drybrush then a strong tone wash then a lighter drybrush to up the contrast and then speed paints so very similar to yours..... I've hardly painted this year until last week since then i'm 9 figures completed and 33 more ready for the speed paint step. Like you said very invigorating to get my painting mojo back....
Absolutely! I actually switched to a sand midtone and a white. I just completed 36 Middle Earth Orcs in a few paint sessions when it normally would have taken me months. Cheers to painting!
Wondering how a lighter primer, tan (Iraqi sand) or stone gray over whole model then hit with a dark wash or ink wash to fill low spots, THEN go in with Speed Paints? Then final highlights. Guess experimentation is needed. Got a whole Mongol army on the way and my equine painting anxiety is growing.
If it makes the painting hobby more fun for you, don't worry about what other people might say about it, they're not going to volunteer to paint your minis for you. :) Keep up the good work.
Great job! I'll never be good enough (or patient) to do a really detailed model but let's face it if you're painting up a tabletop army or gang etc these methods are ideal from a gaming height! I've only speedpainted over white undercoat (as per army painter instructions) how do you feel it compares to your method of black and white overbrush? The colours are certainly more muted on your method which suits these particular models mind you
Thanks! So I haven't done it over pure white. That's something I'll have to try out. I know it will give a much brighter appearance. I know that I can use paint to brighten up areas but it's more difficult to subtract. I guess i'll have to try it out. :)
@@MiniatureGameMontage I painted a delaque gang predominantly with the speed paint and was really pleased with how it came out over pure white wish I could put a photo on here to show! My scenery they're shot next to is also a copy of your necro scenery - black brown gunmetal 😅 The speedpaint still gives really good shading on white but I think your rohan definitely worked with the darker hues.
@@MiniatureGameMontage I've tried sending you an email 👍. Ive just checked your insta and I also have some palanite enforcers. I'll be copying your paint job there too as well 🤣

Me too! I have got so much done and I'm pleased with it. It's the perfect blend of quality and efficiency for me. And I definitely need both!
Great video! Your speed painting techniques have really leveled up since your sisters video, and it shows.
Thanks! I’m really starting to get a feel for it. It definitely takes some practice. Like everything in life.

I'm really enjoying it! I actually can't wait to play again. :D It will definitely be soon.

Always experimenting! In fact, my latest painting video was an experiment gone wrong. 🤣 We learn and move forward.
Great video. Just getting into mesbg and wanted to slap chop my rangers. I'll be able to use those method for them. Great work! 😁
Thanks! I did the same and you'll have them done in no time!
This is an amazing video, just started getting my mojo back for wargaming. Thanks for the help!!
Great to hear!
These look great, love the results!
Thank you! 🙂

Good stuff bro! I wish I could get my lighting and closeups looking that good and I'd do more painting vids
Thanks friend!
Looks good. Seesm liek speed-paint is just very watery paint? A wash light or something like that.
Yes it’s like an ink.

Nice
Are these paints different than the normal acrylic paints? They look like more "liquid", kind of wash technique. (Noob right here)
They are technically still acrylic. But they do act like a wash. The makeup is more like an ink I think. They are very beginner friendly!
