"You have to sing it like it's the last chance you'll ever get to sing" - yes yes yes this is the absolute best description of the mood here that I've heard. I'm always trying to describe that quality thay certain songs require to be performed right and that nails it.
I had the privilege to watch her perform live in Toronto and she was just astounding. She had one of the longest applauses I've seen at a show. Just amazing.
Honestly, these singers are so moving that I’m choking to hold back emotions... then when I see your reaction, I’m gone! This is why I love your reactions. You’re like the friend you need to share the emotion of a moment. Thanks for another great reaction.
I've never been a fan of Cats, and i have a like for the song, but nothing more than that...until i saw this video (Club Broadway spoils us and i love them eternally). This rendition FLOORED ME.
I actually saw her in the tour when they came to Dallas and when she sang Memory it was like the entire world stopped. Everyone in the audience was crying and was completely mesmerized by her. She was absolutely fantastic. CATS is one of my favorite musicals and she was INCREDIBLE.
I have to confess haven't heard of Keri Renee before but wow what a voice!!! I was crying too. Although I don't know because I saw your emotions or because she sang so beautifully. I guess it was because of both! Thank you so much for introducing those who haven't known her before to a new exceptional voice!!!!
This is just fantastic. I've watched this performance a lot of times, and I still cry everytime. This time I cried because YOU CRIED FIRST hahahhaha that was an awesome react!
The way she sings this song is so raw. Its how I always imagined it in my head. Its like it was made for her. Shes also so feline looking in her features. She just fits.
I think this might be my new favorite version of this song. It had the technical stuff so it sounded beautiful and it had the emotional power the song should display. Thanks for the video! Hope you have a Happy New Year!
Wow wow wow. I have always loved this song, but this performance honestly made me.truly understand it for the first time. And I already thought I did, but she drew into something even deeper. It's beautiful.
My daughter and I were so lucky to enjoy her as Grizabella at the Fox in Atlanta, we also got to meet her and some other Cast at the stage door. Oh how I miss Theater pre pandemic…. She was so gracious and lovely, I told her when she sang Memory, we cried. She was so humble and kept talking of how she couldn’t do the dancing the other ensemble did. Truly a legend, so thankful we have a picture of her with my daughter and her autograph. It sparked my daughters love for theater and now we have seen Hamilton and Tootsie at the Fox!
Tears of joy in the first hours of a new year. Thank you for the gift. Could not be a better song and performance! Wish you healthy years with musicals!
Oh, this brings me back 30 years ago, auditioning for my first band ever with this song - and totally tanking it 🙈 Now at 48, with more experience and heartache under my belt, I can not sing this song without crying, finally getting its full meaning, feeling every word & note... She captures it so beautifully, with just the right amount of longing and pain, has me feeling for and wirh her - wanting to hug her and tell her that it will all be ok in the end...
That performance is absolutely astounding and emotion inducing. And I love watching the love and passion you have for all of the performances that you watch.
Saw her live in a performance in Cincinnati and let out an audible “holy shit” when she hit that build. I swear she didn’t even need a mic to reach the back of the theater.
I have a cat. I found him walking my dog about 7 years ago. He was skin and bones out in the hot and humid NE FLorida summer under the bleachers at a football field of a sports complex for kids where my dog and I walked. Hearing Keri with this song, makes me cry because I can only think about how this was like my Notchie. He went from being put out of the shelter for lack of being adopted and was put out there in the feral cat program where they know in 3 years the cat will likely die of something. And this rendition with the incredible clarity of every word and note Keri sang truly touched my heart and soul. It is how I imagined my Notchie felt before he had a home, alone, starving, nobody to touch and love him and so thin and when we took him with us ti have home, love and us to touch and pat him and feel the joy we get from that and to how beautiful he is today. If only Grizabella had what Notchie did and does; from great despair and those memories of what was and could be to what is and happiness. And when we took him home the day we found him, he went to a place where he has great happiness with every new day that begins. As a classically trained organist, ^this^ is what music is all about: To bring to the song or piece that emotion of the music you want to embrace so your audience can live it, embrace it, and feel it with you. I surely did with Keri's rendition. Thank you for this Marc!!
YIKES! Now THATS how you perform the EFF out of THAT! If my heart doesn't stop on "Touch me" they aren't going it right. Mark you and I had simultaneous heart attacks I think.
I saw her last January in Tulsa. Had to sit in the balcony, which is a bad place to see Cats. But when she hit that Touch me, you could feel the jolt of electricity hit every member of the audience. What an experience to have heard that. PS I also saw Betty Buckley on Broadway in the original production, but I keep these two "memories" separated.
What a truly Stunning performance! Keri was made to sing this iconic song and play Grizabella in “Cats!” Thank you Marc for sharing your thoughts and your willingness to show emotions. 💗One of my favorite musicals since I was a child. This song will be on my repeat. 💗
I have just discovered your site and love watching Musicals with you! I am a musician (flutist), but not a singer nor an actor. You are helping me to appreciate these amazing performances. I would adore a discussion of Brian Stokes Mitchell if you are so inclined. 🥰
This is where our talk about the Les Miz movie comes back to sometimes some people can sing with the emotion of the closer ups of the movie but with the soaring vocals of the stage,
I HATE Cats but I saw this video a year or so back and fell in love with her version of the song. Her touring version of the show was coming to town a few months later and, if I had had the money at the time, I was going to see the show purely to see her. I still regret not seeing her.
Ha, I was talking about her this afternoon. True story, my daughter and I saw her perform when Cats come to LA. I have to say when she first came on stage, she seemed too young for the role and then she started to sing. Keri Rene Fuller is a beautiful, compelling and expressive artist.
This song is a heartbreaker. It touches everyone because deep down we know that one day we'll be looking back on our lives this way, nothing but memories of days we might not even have realized were passing too quickly.
First of all...Happy 2021 Marc! I have always enjoyed CATS even though friends and acquaintances have told me that there is no story. What!? I must say that I have always been able to give them the essence of CATS in 2 sentences...max. Memory is quite an emotional tour de force in the climax of the musical and it brings me to tears as it did you. I love that you allow yourself to be publicly moved. For me, it enriches my experience listening to Keri while watching you. I believe how Memory is paced, builds, crescendos makes it one of the best pieces ever written for musical theatre. Marc, I will continue to request that you do a video featuring yourself. I have always wanted to know the history, lives of my favorite teachers and yes, you have become one of my favorites. I hope you will consider this. I look forward to that video. In the meantime I wish you well and...thank you.
@@MarcDanielPatrick WOW! What a special treat that would be! I would be thrilled just to have you talk about your life from childhood to adulthood but a performance is beyond what I hoped for. I can’t wait! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Definite new subscriber here - would recommend giving a listen to the reworked version of Memory that Kerry Ellis has just done. It's been done as a fundraiser and awareness raiser for the West End, but I found the new lyrics incredibly, surprisingly haunting so would love to see what you made of it!

She’s wonderful but Mamie Parris, who was portraying her on Broadway before the show closed again, is a master class in how to perform Memory.
