Jillian Kilburn Yeah, I wish there were more awesome roles for us! Holding the tempo and being harmony isn’t... bad, but it can be a bit boring. Love stuff like this!! Let that power shine!
When I was studying voice I was trained to follow the accompanist on the piano. However I noticed that their timing was not together on this song. It really bothered me because she has an unbelievably beautiful voice. So I'm not sure who's supposed to follow who or if they're supposed to work together.
@@joytotheworld2100 I can tell you how I approach this. I listen to my vocalist sing the song to his/her preferred accompaniment first- (whether it's a recorded accompaniment or live) and how they pace the song, where their breaths are and their phrasing. I set my accompaniment to their cues. So I think the accompanist should listen and follow the vocalist's lead. An example? Listen to the piano accompanist to Elisabeth Kulman for her performance of Erlking here on RUclips. He follows her beautifully.
@ Weber is tremendously musical- his works demand great agility of voice and phrasing. By those two devices he conveys rich emotion and depth. Many have scoffed Weber's work, only to return to humbly give thanks to his genius. Say what you will, yours is merely opinion. Before you pass from this earth, you will have your epiphany of all things music, and indeed, of Weber.
I am studying vocal music ed and I’ve learned that the term “accompanist” is actually very disrespectful and outdated. It implies that the pianist is inferior to the soloist, when in reality the pianist works just as hard to produce music with the soloist. I’ve learned that the correct term for the pianist is “collaborator” or “collaborative pianist”. Yes it can be argued that it’s the pianist’s job to “follow” the singer, but to counterpoint, the singer also follows the pianist. For example, the pianist can actually lead the singer to sing softer or louder by the way they play. Singers often feel unsupported if the pianist’s playing is weak in tone, so the singer heavily relies on the pianist just as much as the pianist relies on the vocalist. There is a lot of compromise when it comes to any performance that involves more than one person and it is very much a “collaboration”. (:
Oh my God, enough with Wiked everybody, the show is shit, it's a badly written, irresponsibly written popsicle, that everyone without a brain thinks is great because there's a high note buried among the colour by numbers mediocre blandness. Enough already.

God I am so sick of hearing this song. Thanks for making me rediscover. The way you belt that lover register and then effortlessly go into head tones is amazing. The clarity in your tone when you belt out touch me is mind blowing; the best I have ever heard. Big new fan.
Saw her live in Boston this evening. She was absolute perfection. An absolute legend. The audience was stunned silent, and then the applause, and cheering was deafening.

I saw her sing this live early 2020 and it changed me. I had no idea what was going on in the play but her singing stunned me and brought me to tears. I went home and looked her up from the playbill and watch this video at least every few months. It's just so heartwrenchingly beautiful 💞

Her role of Grizabella was extremely fitting and I would honestly not hesistate paying again to watch it a second time.
I had the absolute pleasure of seeing her sing this song live today in Toronto! Brought me to tears; her voice and ability to convey emotions are incredible
I saw her sing this live early 2020 and it changed me. I had no idea what was going on in the play but her singing stunned me and brought me to tears. I went home and looked her up from the playbill and watch this video at least every few months. It's just so heartwrenchingly beautiful 💞
not alot of people do know what goes on in cats but i totally get it its about cats choosing one of them to go to heaven
I’ve seen Cats 3 times over the years and her version of Memory is the best I’ve ever heard. The theater was silent and so captured by her presence. Her standing ovation was well deserved!
OMG. I have no words.
There are no words that can accurately describe how marvelous this whole performance is.
that climax is absolutely INSANE
