    Wow, there are a lot of cool tips and tricks packed into this video and we see a lot of great examples of your wetblending technique with contrast paints. The quick stone and marble techniques are also stand outs. I love the scale/skin color combinations on the dino and rider, and I would personally do all one color dinos if I was army painting, or maybe half another color, like reverse the colors and do teal scales with red eyes. I do have one criticism. You said you were painting in a hybrid style giving more focus on some elements and less on others, but to me it seems like you put a lot of effort into all parts of the model and it isn't clear which elements you put less effort into. Overall fantastic stuff Mr. Matt. Please keep them coming.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks Shane! I guess I'd say the main low effort areas are the ones I didn't highlight - the skin and scales on both the dino and rider. At least it feels low effort compared to my normal way of painting, which I highlight and shade more extensively. Thanks for the feedback!

This is the first one I actually want to go back and STUDY to get a feel for how to do this for myself. I think this is truly my favorite mini painting video of all time. Absolutely fantastic. Thats an awesome looking orange on that Aggradon that I may or may not use for my future Chaos Lord on Karakadrak! The other scheme I was thinking of was the green saurus warrior video a few months back. I'm trying to figure out which color would contrast better with the metallic iron armor theme I am going to run with for the Chaos army. Love to see you take on the AoS range! Thanks again!

    This is an absolutely great piece of work and will surely help me a lot painting my Aggradons. There's one thing I like to ask though: The new Saurus models in the armybook seem to have some sort of green hue on them (cf. p.50 the Astrolith Bearer, p.52 especially the models at the bottom of the page, or the top picture on p.107 in contrast to the old bluer tone in the lower picture). Do you have any suggestions for colors to get this blueish-green hue? I was thinking about Akhelian Green and maybe Coelia Greenshade. But this is what the painting guide on p.64 says, but the picutres here look entirely different.

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah I'm not really sure there. Akhelian Green or perhaps Stormfiend might be a close match. The painting studio doesn't normally use Contrast paints for the box art; so I'd be willing to bet it's layer/base paints (possibly incubi darkness, stegadon scale green, or sotek green). Hope you find a close match, and good luck!

    • @MattsHobbyHour

      I use an old GW pin vice (a small, hand-twist drill). I believe GW still sells a new version, and other companies sell them too. And I ordered some drill bits that are the same size as a standard paper clip.

    Great video. When you say thinned slightly but contrast medium, especially for the Skeleton Horde, Is there a ratio you do?

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  3 месяца назад +1

      No specific ratio, but if I had to guess maybe around 1/6. A very small amount of medium. It's really just to make the paint a little more workable and fluid, and it varies based on what I'm painting so the ratio changes. I'd recommend trying the paint undiluted first, then thin it slightly and test again, until you're happy with the result. Usually I'll test out a color on the base or if theres an inconspicuous area on the underside of the model. Thanks for watching and happy painting!

    • @MattsHobbyHour
      @MattsHobbyHour  Месяц назад +1

      There isn't a specific way I set up when I'm trying to paint stuff fast. I just want to make sure I have everything I need at arms reach, and some good music or a podcast.
      What do you mean by the differences between Citadel paints? A review of the whole range, or something more specific (like Contrast)? What kind of stuff would you find valuable in that kind of video?
      In the meantime I'd encourage you to join the channel Discord (there's a link in the About section on my channel page) and if you have any specific questions it's much easier to talk about them over there. Thanks for watching and good luck with your painting!

      @@jackcat8994 A lot of the paints I use are Citadel Contrast paints (Speed Paint is a similar paint available from Army Painter but I don't use that brand). Contrast is runny and similar to watercolor or ink; it is transparent and you have to paint it over a white or near-white undercoat in order for the color to show up. For very beginner-friendly information I would recommend the Games Workshop channel on RUclips, they have a lot of videos for those just getting started.
