    Follow on question to this video… I play another tabletop that features Lizardmen… IN SPAAAACE!, and one of their units gets an energy shield that’s basically a hexagon made up of other smaller hexagons around a central emitter strapped to their wrist. I was wondering if you had a technique to paint the shield so it could look something like the Kig-Yar shields from the Halo games. I figured maybe a wet blend, but not sure if that’s the way to go.

    I think the scales should be a shade darker than the skin if going for the iconic blue/teal color scheme, they look quite odd being exactly the same color, almost as if they've been forgotten about.

    • @DuncanRhodesDRPA
      @DuncanRhodesDRPA  Год назад

      Agreed. We spoke at length about doing that but felt, in this instance, that we would do what the 'Eavy Metal team did for the codex and box. We figured there must be an updated reason that they did that 😊

      @Vyperuk Месяц назад

      I feel your pain, I've been trying to figure out what colours have been used on the box with no success. This tutorial comes the closest, but the box art scales definitely have more of a blue tone to them, and the chest skin is much lighter.
      But also the EM team have clearly used very different techniques too, every scale is individually highlighted, the skin looks like it might be layered. Especially if you look at the Kroxigors. Not convinced there was much washing and drybrushing going on.

    Why no airbrush? At least for the base coat

    • @DuncanRhodesDRPA
      @DuncanRhodesDRPA  Год назад +4

      Good question and the answer is simply that we don't want any barriers for people to paint their miniatures. Getting set up with an airbrush is an expensive endeavor for most and that becomes a barrier for them. If you do have an airbrush then priming them or base coating them is a great way to get started quickly, especially when painting a unit or a horde army. 😊

  • @minipaintingforyou
    @minipaintingforyou Год назад

    I‘m currently introducing two friends of mine how to paint minis. One of them got a nearly complete army that was fully painted and only learns to paint a few capstone minis. He‘s very much into wetblending, true metallic metal and all that jazz.
    The other has at least one full army of grey plastic to paint, he is much more into contrast and slapchop etc. The latter got completely discouraged by painting tutorials, because the end result is, in his opinion, skyhigh out of his reach.
    While watching this video, I understood what he meant.
    You reached a point about two thirds through, that would have been obtainable using contrast paint, some drybrushing and a wash or two. But then you start layering on top of washed surfaces and edge highlighting incredibly fine and consistent lines. How about announcing that a miniature is basically done and the following steps are just nice to have bonus eye candy? You could get real crazy to show people a glimpse into the rabbit hole, without making them seem like toddlers with crayons 😂
    Also, I have 0 interest in AoS or Skinks, but I always learn something new in your videos. Thank you for sharing!
