Dunc & Rog
Deserved, thank you.
Please show us how you would approach building, assembling, and painting a Gundam from Bandai. If you need recommendations on which one to try I have several which fulfill different criteria from beginner friendly to more complicated, from 1/144th to 1/100 to 1/60th scale.
I like that almost all of these videos are done on minis that are fully assembled. When I first started painting, sub assemblies were something I never considered or even knew how to do effectively, so videos like this saved my first batch of marines pretty much right out of the gate.
Long live the Lord of Layers! The lessons I’ve learned from your videos over the years have really helped my mini painting.
That's awesome William, thank you so much 😊
It's such a weird feeling. These videos both help and make me feel more confident, and yet also still struggling to feel like i'm not ruining models when it never goes quite right1
Bust out the champagne and congratulations guys!
Thank you Fulgrim the second 🥂
Those wetblends take the model to the next level! The Avatar is an imposing centerpiece of an Eldar army and with a paintjob like this he will do more than just have scary rules, he will look stunning too! Games Workshop have been on a roll lately releasing drop dead gorgeous sculpts and Duncan's been doing a great job making painting them approachable.
Thank you for all your tutorials. I’m so much happier with my results and I owe it to this channel and the Academy.
Happy for your progress m8. This looks amazing and cant wait for whats in store for the future of this channel and thank you for your teachings troughout the years. Ceep up the good work.
Congrats on the channel milestone Duncan ! Great paint job as usual !
Thank you! Cheers!
Duncan you have motivated me to finally move into the mini side of Warhammer and beyond thank you for these and hope your work continues
Thank you so much for your amazing content! I hope you will have many more subscribers and of course lots of fun painting!
Thank you for all your efforts and for the free content.
Totally deserved milestone! Honestly, Iam surprised that it is not at least 2-3 times more already! But still a goals to achieve! Best wishes on that journey and good luck!
Congrats for 250k, weil deserved. What a blast to end this working day. The Avatar of Khaine is a miniature i am craving for to add to my bigass miniature collection
Thank you. It's a great looking miniature and is a lot of fun to paint for sure
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA i might get the old metal Avatar
Okay General Grevious
Congratulations once again Duncan! Well deserved and I cant wait for this tutorial!
Thanks a ton!
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Thank you! Your 40k Wolves recipe is class and I cant wait to use it more. Thank you for helping me become a better painter through your previous videos and the academy.
An absolutely beautiful job! Congratulations on 250k subs!
I've been waiting for this! Now I can start collecting Eldar for real :D Thank you for amazing tutorial!
I couldn't stop watching. Your skills are mesmerizing and your explanations are so clear and helpful.
It’s his mesmerising voice and charm
Congrats on 250K!!!! I’ve been subbed to you since 100k and watched every video leading to this. Can’t wait for what else you bring in the future!
Thanks so much!!
Love ya videos Duncan plus you do fully assembled models 💯👍👹
Well done Duncan. You have been instrumental in my development as a mini and model painter.
Each and every time a step finishes and it cuts to the model, I've got a massive grin on my face of how good it looks haha
What a great paintjob... Nice one!
Thank you so much 😀
The way of making gradient is awesome! Thanks for this amazing tip!
You're so welcome!
Thanks for sharing your excellent work
Thank you! Cheers and it's our pleasure Phil 😊
Brilliant, was looking forward to this.
Congrats on 250k, your channel is what got me into painting :)
i roughly followed this guide to paint an old 2nd edition avatar i had lying around and i learned a lot. thanks :)
Congratulations on that 250K subscribers, its time for celebrations 🎉🥳
🎉 it surer is and thank you 😊
This is amazing work of art Duncan. A million of detail on mini make my eye sight worse and worse;) But you handle those tiny details very very good. I love it. Hope some day I can.
Congrats on 250k, Funny Two Thin Coats Man! I have to say, this tutorial really made me want to pick up an Avatar of Khaine. I don't even play Eldar.
Many congratulations on the milestone, Duncan!
Thank you
Thanks Duncan. Eventually, I manage to finish my Avatar of Khaine thanks to your guide. Result is amazing.
Fantastic! We are so glad that we could help a little and that you are happy with your miniature. Made my day this 😊
Look Awesome !!!
That looks amazing m8. Your a gifted painter
Haha! I was just looking at my avatar in the display and thought I should paint that soon... how perfect is this timing lol.
Thanks Duncan
so long haven't see nice tutorial from you, thanks.
The amount of tiny details and numerous colour changes is insane. A model like this would take me a few weeks to build and paint given my current schedule and amount of painting time I currently get.
Despite this being a character, the skin tutorial is pretty good for salamanders terrain imo
Congratulations Dunc and Rog! On to.... ONE MILLION! (Dr. Evil laugh required after saying that...) 😉
Thanks Jon! Lets hope we get there one day lol.
Congrats!! Can't wait for the 1M subscriber video :)
Us too...maybe a full on Titan video...maybe we save that for 500K
Always a treat to have these Academy Vault videos. Especially with how they're used sparingly and kept mainly to your website.
Do you have any advice for painting yellow? I've heard it's difficult to paint with
Thank you, check out the tutorial on painting the Imperial Fists Legionary 😊
Pink undercoat and yellow paint, or, if you're feeling ballsy with getting down a smooth coat of white, then straight white, yellow ink wash, and shadow that sucker by wet-blending with progressively more red ink wash mixed into your yellow ink wash.
@@andrewamann2821 thank you :)
Congrats Duncan mate.
Looks great!
Thanks!
Congrats from France Duncan !! 🙂
Congratulations on the 250k subs! Amazing paintjob on the Avatar, I'm not really planning on painting one any time soon but just wanted to leave a comment, I love watching the tutorials anyways haha.
I would love to see some larger scale (54mm or 1/35, or even larger) tutorials from you guys!
Thank you 😊 The funny thing is, we were just talking about that yesterday 😲
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA interesting... Looking forward to seeing what you guys put out! Love your content.
Been a subscriber to Ser Duncan and Rog for over a year. 4 bucks a month for the best tutorials out there!
Amazing
Thank you! Cheers!
Congrats!
Thank you Grey Knight 😃
This was so helpful
Awesome 😄
For a moment I was thinking "wait, I'm sure I've already seen this, what kind of weird deja vu is this?", then I realized it was on the Academy's website!
Yes, we dug into the vault to celebrate a huge milestome for us 😀🥂
Absolutely Killin it
Thank you 😊
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I had planned to use an Eldar pun but I was too impressed with the work and pleased to see you hit 250k! Couldn't have happened to a better guy
Congrats on the accomplishment. Also need to buy an Avatar NOW
Nice, its a great mini. Oh, and thank you too.
Didn't realize Duncan had his own channel...... fantastic..
nice looks great you deserve more subsribers
Congratulations to the best mini painting tutorial channel on RUclips, sorry midwinter minis
Thank you so much 😀
Perfect!
Thank you
Today IS a good day to paint!
I see the Avatar of the Bloody-handed God on Duncan's painting desk, I hit like.
yesss! im so happy :D
Hello Duncan, congrats on your channel milestone. Khaine looks awesome! How did you develop the manual dexterity to paint so well? Do you do any special exercises to train your hands or is it just a matter of painting enough stuff and eventually it will look good?
Thanks Elinoir, it's nothing more than practice. And also learning the right techniques to start with as well learning that it's okay to make mistakes. IF you learn the fundamentals, the rest will come easily.
This is the best.
Hey Duncan great video very instructional thanks again. What's the difference between coating gold with reikland instead of Agrax? Also which gold do you use usually to basecoat and which one for highlights on gold? thanks!!!
Thank you , DRPA .
🐺
Sweet
Thanks. Cheers!
As per usual Duncan you make it look so simple , where as my perfection takes weeks to achieve as I have now "Shakey Hand Syndrome".
Mega Nice lavet 🤙🥇👑💪
Hi Duncan loving this paint scheme. Really need your help. How can I paint the rune type runes on the base? I want to be able to get the paint to fill into the writing round the summoning circle
Awesome video! About how many glaze layers did you apply for each color on the sword?
Congrats Duncan. Please do kairos fateweaver at some point too please!
Thank you and the good news is that we have already done a full tutorial for that amazing character over on the Academy website (duncanrhodes.com) already 😊
Duncan, when you thinned the AP white to run into the line crevices between the muscle “plates” on the abs, was it as thin as an ink like Dayler Rainey (no idea how to spell that, sorry) or Liquitex? Or was it a little thicker than that? Just curious for trying it out in the future since I have some ink I could use out of the pot.
On the dry palette, is there a reason the paint is being placed into a new location and not into the area that the color was already in?
This is very great! But I've encountered a problem, I follow along step for step and am very careful but yet mine is still too bright almost while his is super dark but also vibrant? What am I doing wrong
So can we get him to paint Magnis next?
Noice
Ta 😀
how would u paint the legion of the Damned??
Are you going to make a painting video on Star Wars legion mandalorian super commandos?
Mold lines inside the cross guard? Or is that the sculpt?
Love ur channel and was wondering if ypu knew why GW disables comments on their channel

What is your favorite miniature to paint?
I see Duncan using both a wet and dry palette I have a wet palette but have been using the disposable palettes for the stuff you dont want on the wet palette. What does Duncan use for the dry one, or what kind of things do you all use?
Its just a simple white bathroom tile :-)
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA cool. It's funny your watermark falls nicely in the middle of it, and every time I watch your videos, I see merch.. ;)
Hey Duncan, thanks for the video! Is there some reason you didn't use your own range of paints for this project?
Yes, we did this tutorial some time ago and at that point, they were still in production 😊
Just the very man...
Sir Duncan, this Q is in regards to the new Chaos Chosen minis. On 1 of the sprues there's 2 bolt guns & 2 chainswords with tentacles wrapped around them but do you know where they should be glued (if opting to use them), a friend from WH Glasgow suggested they should be put on backpacks, but which 1s as the spares are clearly meant to fit somewhere, it doesn't show them on the build instructions

Hey, Duncan. Thx for your job and incredible tutorials!
But can you help me? How to get access to your site if I am from Russia? Visa and MasterCard are not available to payment in Europe countries.
Why can i only like this once!? Bah
Avatar is a ginger 😄😄😄
Even for a stubble ho got two thin layers of beard
Random question - do you have a big display case or something with all these models, or just like 500 armies in transport cases? lol
It's in both lol, We have to buy another display case for the studio 😂
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA That would be something neat to see at some point!
I wish videos included this level of detail on assembling the model. I find doing gap filling and filing that is invisible when painted is highly nontrivial and demands at least as much patience as painting.
If moy naime was Moichael Khaine, I would definitely name my daughter Kaela Mensha.
We need Pete the Wargamer vs. Duncan.
Congrats on the milestone. I would point out that the original avatar of khaine had the spear form of the wailing doom.
Duncan have you seen Sergio’s video?
Yes. The man is an artist. Brilliant.
How is army painter Matt White? I tried multiple brands and all them are blotchy or they don't cover good or just not good no matter what you do
It's not too bad to be honest, we like to use it instead of Citadel's white.
do a balrog pls
duncan i NEED you to do a how to paint hellpit abomination. i have scoured youtube and i cant find one. the closest thing we have is a guy who took picks during the process from 10 years ago. this is unacceptable as this is objectively the best mini in all of AOS. i think we can all agree this cannot continue and that a great champion like yourself must rectify at once
I was under the impression that diluting Contrast Paints with water instead of the dedicated Medium was detrimental since it broke apart the bonds or something like that. So confusing.
Yes, it is a little confusing to be fair. It depends on how much you wish to dilute it or what the effect you are going for is...so many factors. If in doubt, just thin it with the medium :-)
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I really appreciate the response. I figured as you said it likely comes down to how much Contrast Paint and how big of an area you are painting. As a follower for years I've come to trust your results and techniques so again I really appreciate it.
Duncan I’m afraid I might have destroyed my Helbrutes plasma by failing a red glow, pls help!!
Have you checked out our tutorial on painting plasma glows? It may just be what you're looking for 😊
