An oil wash? My, you're getting into some fancy techniques now, Duncan. Lovely. I wouldn't mind a video going a bit deeper into using oils on models. Also, in reference to the previous video, I wouldn't mind a bit more on mixing metallics with non-metallics. I'm always afraid that it will ruin the metallic shine.
My Lamenter Terminator librarian is on my to do list after my 2 Eldar Revenant Titans 😂😂😁 so pinning this for future assistance. Smashing work as always Duncan ❤
When I was learning to paint to a higher level for things like competitions, I had a golden daemon painter mentoring me. I recall him saying frequently 'aim for the consistency of milk, then use many thin layers'. Not quite needed for table top rank and file, but always something I've found helpful to know.
Love that you start with the original recipe Kantor blue base color like a Crimson Fist! So many paint Librarians with a much lighter blue or Macragge blue.
So I'm completely new to Warhammer and just assembled my Librarian from the Leviathan box.. I'm frankly stunned how you've managed to put so much detail into the face. Looking at how the model's head is recessed into the helmet, it seems incredibly tricky.
Awesome. I think this is the first mini with a full psychic hood that can, more or less, accommodate a Grey Knights terminator helmet. But then you’ve gotta give it a blazon so you can paint something blue.
Hey Duncan! Awesome videos so far! I was wondering if you're going to paint any squigs in the future soon? I'm really curious on how you would paint squig skin and especially how to make the transition from the reddish to the beige-ish colours of their underbelly while it still looks natural. Cheers! Keep up the good work!
I literally just called my FLGS and asked them to set one of these aside for me to pick up this afternoon. I have a seriously disturbing lack of Librarians for a Silver Skulls army.
I Wish I watched this before I gave My librarian a try... Well, considering My Skill Level it would Look completely different anyway...but My try. Well. Looks Like a 10 year old was doing IT...top many Details for me. But great Video, Duncan !
Got this mini and will defo follow this guide. Am I right in thinking if I’m doing him Blood Angels, it will still be blue but I will put red on the should pad? I’m still a newbie with the chapters.
All Codex compliant chapter Librarians have blue armour with their chapter colours on the shoulder pad. So the red colour for Blood Angels would only be on the shoulder. Mephiston is the only exception in that particular chapter with his vampire red armour.
I have a blood angels army and I am just going to red and gold for this model as I'm just not a fan of the blue against the rest of my army, you could do your red and the accentuate the shoulders etc in blue
Great job! I sill have mine to tackle. Duncan, instead of thinning the pant with water (for the runes & glowing recesses) what do you think of using lahmian medium instead? or will water be better?
I don't know what it is I'm doing wrong, but I can't ever get the paint to just come out of my brush like you do, especially on the part where you are placing the dot on the eyes. More grinding for me I suppose, at least the process is a blast! Thanks Duncan!
The trick is to make sure the paint flows from the brush. It may be that you are not thinning your paint enough. Try it on your palette and then paint thin lines next to your well of paint. If the paint struggles to flow from the brush then add a little water. IF ot flows too quickly, like an ink, then add more paint. Experiment a little until you get the flow just right for you.
I tried and tried to get my paints to flow like Duncan gets them to but couldn't, and I've been painting for quite a few years. So I wouldn't worry too much. The only thing I can think that is stopping them flowing is that I put all my Citadel paints into dropper using flow improver. I ended up getting a bit frustrated and wiping the paint off with a tissue... Which actually gave a nice effect, so I highlighted it and called it done! Jobs a goodin 😂
@bushmins Something I realized I was doing which was causing problems was my brush was drying out really fast. I live in a super dry area and I start running a humidifier next to me when paint. That along with just constantly keeping my brush moist has paid out dividends!
Duncan since youre painting a terminator, do you have any tips how to make brighter terminators like deathwing not have texture when using paints like ushabti bone?
The metallic flecks can go through the paper and into the foam - therefore the next time you pop a fresh sheet on you may find some metallic flecks coming through into your new paint
I've painted this miniature. It is a miserable miniature. And no, finishing it did not feel good. Plus it is garbage in the game, in case someone wants to look to that. A better life choice is to spend this kind of effort doing something else. Still, a great tutorial...for almost any other miniature that exists :D
Their sculpts look so amazing these days, but the human faces still look like they were made 40 years ago. Every time I see a human face on a modern WH miniature, it looks like it was taken from another company, different scale, different century, painted by a different person, and bashed into the model.

Watch the Cult of Paint channel if you want to know more about oils. TBH they're much easier than acrylics for washes and outcome. Enamels are too!
I think this might be my absolute favorite paintjob I've seen.
I'm really looking forward to trying out that glow effect. I love the new termi librarian mini so I want to do it justice
Brilliant job as always, Duncan, and not an airbrush in sight. Love the nod to Bob Ross as well.
My Phoenix Resplendent librarian is gonna look sweet now!

@mastodonseven eh?
That glow is incredible

its almost uncanny how similar you look to my friend's dad, whom is the only reason i paint warhammer now. excellent video by the way

Was going to tackle this with sub assemblies - really interesting to see it being done fully assembled, particularly the head and hood.
Tried the glow effect on the runes, can confirm that it certainly glows. hurts my eyes looking at it though, still looks awesome!

Another incredible painting tutorial!
I love that you picked the same colour for purity seals I did... Tried all sorts and liked this one in particular ❤
"You are late returning your tomes...I sense HERESY!!!!" *zapping SFX* Looks great as usual, sir!
Thank you kindly!
Great Tutorial as always!!
Thank you! Cheers!
My dog ate a whole bag of Scrabble tiles, so I took him to the vet.
No word yet.
Woof
"happy painting, and god bless my friend" 😃
See what you did there :-)
Professional as always.
That Stegadon Scale "Green" and Sotek "Green" had me worrying if I was a little colourblind...
relaxing to watch 🙂
Glad you enjoyed

Does my heart good to see a professional painter do his base coats with the most fucked up brush I have ever seen
It strikes me as ironic that Macragge Blue doesn't show up here.
Im always amazed :)
I could have done with thus tutorial a few months ago!! I might have done a good job on my Librarian out the Leviathan box 😭😭☹️😂😂😂😂
Looks mint

Yeah as already stated librarians are blue but remember they’re your models, it’s your army, you can paint them any which way you like.

@@Mark.Matthews That’s a really good idea 🙌
Space marine librarians always wear blue armour..........Mephiston has left the chat
He’s a chief Librarian of a chapter though.
People won't like my green salamanders librarian then
@@trashpanda_actual I play samalanders, but I paint my heroes differently so they stand out.
i never expected to see bob ross in one of duncans videos
Hahahaha...it was a happy accident
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA "we're just gonna paint a happy little space marine"
Great job! I sill have mine to tackle. Duncan, instead of thinning the pant with water (for the runes & glowing recesses) what do you think of using lahmian medium instead? or will water be better?
Either will work fine. For small areas, water works great but lahmian medium works just as well.
@@DuncanRhodesDRPAThanks for taking the time to answer! I'll try your suggestion.. Have a great weekend!

Could you substitute the white oil with with ink? Just asking because I already have the FW ink from Daler Rowney.
The only librarian, that is not of that color are the space wolves.
Yeah and they're called Rune Priests instead of Liberians.
Fancy!
In your opinion, what's a good shade to use for whites, or cream colors?
Duncan since youre painting a terminator, do you have any tips how to make brighter terminators like deathwing not have texture when using paints like ushabti bone?
Thin your paint correctly.
i have been doing that @@jacobreid8391
Just thin your paints and apply multiple thin coats. Thats all it is :-)
what paints do you use when painting orks or any other armies, Citadel or Army Painter?
HERESY! Duncan is using OIL PAINTS! And not in two coats either!
Shhh...it was a fun experiment lol
And the results were magnificent... but don't tell anyone!@@DuncanRhodesDRPA
Is there a reason you switched out your wet pallet to use the metallic paint? Love the videos man thanks

kinda wish that black templars had librarians now.
How would u do the starship troopers plasma bug butt on the butt of the psychophage
I cant find the link to get your paint range
I need a nice relaxing video
😁
Thousand Sons blue..he is going to fall to chaos at the first whiff of the warp.
When you highlight that back panel area do you highlight both the inner and outer part or just the one?
Good question. Its up to you. You can do both if you have the time, but you can just do one to emphasis the detail
@@DuncanRhodesDRPA Thanks! The Tau have a lot of panels that are "inside" so to say and I can never tell which way I'm supposed to highlight them.
Really cool! I will never paint nor buy one. I play black templars
Lore wise, would a death watch librarian have blue on them too?
No. The librarian in the Deathwatch series didn't.
@@ordohereticus5530 thank you!
Hey, next time, make it in a grim dark model, would be awesome.. great job mate, really learned a lot from your lessons😜

somebody put that poor paint brush out of its misery
Never! Ol' Fluffy is the best initial basecoat brush 🤣
That's not codex, librarians are in a lighter shade of blue, should have used a ultramarines blue
Hello! Would you say craven yellow is a good subsitute for phalanx yellow?
