    As a former Marvel Editorial staff, I find this a very interesting take on the Venom. I like the fact that Eddie is portrayed as a psychopath rambling about his distorted version of "truth and justice". But Venom was a character who would've actively save the man in the alley by either mutilating or killing the muggers. His brutal actions would terrify the victim far more than the muggers. And this is what make him a villain instead of a dark hero. That's the 1 aspect I would've liked to see.

      @@shepherdofthewest4216 I lived in NY back then and got into Marvel through a high school internship. It's always good to live near a company that you would like to work for, because when the opportunity become available, it's easier to go in to apply and get an interview. But nowadays, everyone uses LinkedIn to search and apply and conduct interviews. It is all online, so you'll just have to check consistently to see if something within your interest and ability comes up if you want to work In-staff. But if you want to be a freelance artist that draws comics, the I recommend going to comic conventions and show your art to editors - talk to them, ask if this is the type of style and material they look for, because they are the ones who hire writers and artists for a book.

      "Venom" is a character who has WILDLY differed since his conception. Let's face it, a *large* part of why is that he became so popular, so Marvel wanted to lean into making him more likeable/sympathetic.

      Huva-snak3 Not true. Venom was shoehorned into the third movie because of studio interference so the character and the movie suffered for it. Had Sam Raimi been able to place him in the fourth film, he could have dedicated more time to exploring the character.

    • @1337rofflecopters
      @1337rofflecopters 10 лет назад +16

      RikkiReptar
      I think being merged with a "Klyntar" sounds similar to demonic possession even if the stories don't evoke the super-natural. The symbiote has interests counter to your own and attempts to make you do horrible things that you ordinarily wouldn't do. It's not exactly the same, but either one can turn a good person into a monster.

    • @RikkiReptar
      @RikkiReptar 10 лет назад +20

      1337rofflecopters It's not a "merge" a merge is when one thing becomes something else. It's symbiosis, which means it works in harmony with you. Tho some of the Klyntar, namely the first generations of that species were good, some were corrupted. It may make you do bad things, but a Klyntar also feed off the hosts desires as well. I'd also like to add the fat that Venom wasn't a "monster" hence the fact he was never a villain. He was an anti-hero. Venom and Eddie Brock both just hated Spider-Man. Venom actually protected the innocent in his first many years and later on Eddie settles his differences with Spider-Man even with the Venom attached to him. In recent history the Venom symbiote was trapped and tamed by the Avengers, who then gave it to Flash Thompson to give him another chance at fighting for his country since his legs were blown off in Afghanistan. Venom is part of the "Secret Avengers" crew and is also doing missions with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Flash is also in full control tho it has a tendency to lash out on certain occasions when provoked... nothing is any bit of demonic about the Klyntar.

The ending was still somewhat unsettling despite a low budget and I just love all the Spider-Man newspapers on the walls of that room. A unique version of Eddie Brock and Venom I'd have to say and way better than Topher Grace. How another commenter mentioned he doesn't carry a lighter and how the sound cut out right before Venom was literally thrown up by Eddie I appreciate. Also how he just cut that guy off when he mentioned Spider-Man and the rant about him being the hero and protecting the city. I kinda love how he acts so upbeat a lot when he's just killing as many people as it seems he is. It felt unique especially with being in black and white. Great job guys! Definitely was a slow burn.
    Solid short-film overall. I'd like a whole Venom movie like this with more budget or it might sound crazy but maybe even a TV show. Disney+ show anybody now that there's a Multiverse? It's not likely but I'd probably watch it.

    • @in_worldofmyown

      @@brownbearboxproductions3458 Yeah I don't like how quickly Marvel moved onto the multiverse because it just makes things all the more complicated than they need to be. Fionna and Cake is a great representation of the multiverse outside of comic-related media and even then you still have the Spider-Verse movies so I think it's not the worst thing right now, in fact it's an interesting idea, but the MCU has sorta over-used it.

    Absolutely brilliant take on Eddie Brock that could easily expand into and holds it's own in a full-length film.I love how effortlessly the Man Bites Dog mockumentary style mixes into the Marvel universe.Personally,I liked the way the way the FX were approached.It gave u just enough of a few quick looks into how truly terrifying that character could be.It's proof that clever writing,skilled actors,and creative directing will always stand the test of time over the crap Hollywood tries to sell us.Joe Lynch and Ryan Kwanten are the kind of talent that Marvel fans deserve :)

      I think it's another reference. I love this fan-film for all the subtle little things in it; the conversations between Eddie and the Other, the dead criminal he hung from the fire exit, ''I ate my sins - literally (Sin-Eater reference, in the comics he lost his job at the Bugle after doing a massive exposé on a fake Sin-Eater, costing him his reputation)'' and that snuff film set. This is how Venom should be done, and holy shit, he did this brilliantly.

      JiminyCriket That may have been the dumbest comment ever. One she was marginally cute, not as cute as Abigail Breslin or Quvenzhane Wallis when they were nominated. She was actually the best performer in a great movie with a gifted cast in her very first role. Did she peek? Maybe, but that doesn't take away from her talent.

    • @MightyStreetFighter
      @MightyStreetFighter 10 лет назад

      JiminyCriket Have you seen The Piano? It's easily one of the greatest movies I've ever seen and every single lead performance on that film deserved an Oscar (especially Holly Hunter). Paquin's win was not a fluke.
      That said... Maybe she did peak, but if you honestly think that X-Men is not a huge enough franchise when its been keeping Fox up and the first film was one of (and possibly the most direct) the main progenitors of the comic book film, then goddamn do you have nothing to say about film.

    • @spawpetsalon7408

    Apparently I'm late to the show by two years (just saw this for the first time), but this is really, really clever in a meta way! In the tradition of the unreliable narrator, Eddie Brock, a.k.a. Venom, is a brilliant choice as a focal lens by which to deconstruct media production and consumption. And the layers keep piling on, as a defrocked journalist who also harbors a secret dark persona (Venom) that lives off of extreme human emotion filmed by young filmmakers who, not unlike the alien symbiote, makes a living off of the high drama of human emotions. It's ironic that the filmmakers "comeuppance" comes not from being voyeuristic spectators (becoming complicit in producing essentially a snuff film), but from their objection to morally compromise the integrity of their film by refusing Brock's funding. And the fact that, within the context of the story line, their film was STILL produced despite the filmmakers THEMSELVES being killed, is the satirical "piece de resistance" in which all players involved, filmmakers, subject, and audience, exploit truth for their own ends--double entendre not withstanding!

  • @mrmusickhimself

    This was the Venom AND Eddie Brock we all deserved. I have always loved this concept, and the direction Adi Shankar took with it. Imagine THIS Eddie PURPOSELY infecting a serial killer with the symbiote just to create headlines, and then being forced to stop him before Carnage destroys the city.
    I never imagined that we'd end up with 3 AWFUL and GOOFY Venom movies
