Hi. I love your videos and it has helped me out. I am starting a shaved ice business this year. When I was looking over the directions from Southern Snow I didn’t see where you had to add the fruit acid and benzoate soda. I didn’t know if that makes the simple syrup last longer by itself or if you do have to put it in the simple syrup to mix it. Sorry trying to make sure I am mixing up my syrups correctly.

    • @thehaddocks

Have you tried this, or would it be just to sweet?

Does the pre mixed ready to use syrup need the preservatives added to it after it is opened?

I believe RTU syrup is shelf stable and has preservatives

Dude, have you ever used the powdered preservatives in your simple syrup and if so what are the measurements?

I haven’t. I’ve always used liquid preservatives from southern snow.

If you don’t add any thickener to the simple syrup, your syrups must be pretty watery.

The sugar thickens it up to the right consistency. Our ice is really fluffy so we actually have more trouble getting the syrup to go all the way to the bottom. We poke holes in the ice so the syrup can make it all the way to the bottom.

Do you ever make SUGAR FREE SYRUP and does it sell like SUGAR SURUP ?

Yes we have a couple flavor options that are sugar free. It doesn’t sell as much as sugar but it is nice to have the option for those who need it.

Do you have the measurements and what you use when making sugar free simple syrup?
