    Leaf 1:
Begin by attaching a square of parchment to a flower nail. Using a medium consistency yellow buttercream and a number 102 petal piping tip with the wide end facing out you're going to apply pressure, pull up, turn your flower nails slightly and then pull back down to your starting point. Pipe the next little segment right beside. Apply pressure, pull up, turn slightly, dip and pull back down towards your starting point. Give the flower nail another turn and continue piping a top leaf in that same motion and two more leaf segments on the opposite side. To finish off the leaf hold your tip straight up and down apply a small amount of pressure and pull away to create a stem.
    Leaf 2:
For the second leaf you will still be using the 102 with the yellow buttercream but this time attach a larger rectangle of parchment. Holding your tip straight up and down apply a small amount of pressure and pipe a stem down the center of your parchment. With the wide end facing out starting at the bottom of the stem apply pressure, pull up, turn slightly, dip back down and pull away once we reach our starting point. Continue working your way up the stem piping in that same motion. Pipe a leaf at the top of the stem and then pipe segments along the opposite side. Leave a small amount of the stem at the bottom. You can also do this leaf with the narrow end facing out it'll just give you a bit more of a jagged edge on your leaves.
    Leaf 3:
Using an orange buttercream and 102 petal piping tip with the narrow end facing out apply pressure, pull out, turn slightly, and then dip back in. Instead of releasing pressure pull up, turn slightly, dip back down and then continue in that motion. Apply pressure, dip, pull back down, turn, apply pressure, pull out. Once again pull away sharply when you get down to the bottom and add a little stem to your leaf. This is a buttercream oak leaf!
    Leaf 4:
Using a red buttercream and a number 352 tip with the pointed end touching the flower nail apply pressure, pause, pull up slightly, apply pressure, pause, and pull up, tapering off the amount of pressure as you reach the end of the leaf and then sharply pull away to get a nice point. For a wider leaf apply more pressure!
Buttercream Recipe: (Video: • Easy American buttercr... )
    Ingredients
1/2 Cup butter softened to room temperature 113g
    2 Cups powdered sugar 200g
    1 Teaspoon vanilla extract 4g
    1-2 Tablespoons milk 15-30g
    Directions:
In a large bowl if using a hand mixer or in the bowl of your stand mixer cream butter on medium low speed for 2-3 minutes or until fluffy and pale in colour. Add 1/2 of the powdered sugar and mix for 2 minutes. Add remaining powdered sugar and mix for another 2 minutes. Your buttercream should be fluffy, pale and thick at this point. Add vanilla and 1 tablespoon of milk. Mix well. If the buttercream is still too thick/stiff add another tablespoon of milk and continue mixing. You will want a medium consistency buttercream to pipe your flowers with! Add food colouring. For these leaves I used Wilton gel colours in "red red", "lemon yellow" and "orange".

Are you using buttercream icing? If yes, can you make the Leaves and flowers ahead of time and keep them in the fridge?

Yes, I use the buttercream recipe that I have included in the description. You can store them in the fridge in an airtight container for a few days!

Maybe a dumb question but how do you get the leaves off of the parchment and onto a cake? Or is the parchment just for demonstration?

Hello! I usually place them in the fridge or freezer for around 10 minutes which allows them to firm up and easily peel off the parchment!
