Regular folks can’t have anything thing nice without someone trying to scam them,and I was going to send a comic in to get graded to,this is a real bummer Chris 😢
I completely understand your frustration. It's unfortunate that scammers always find a way to ruin things for everyone else. Stay vigilant and make sure to do thorough research before sending your comic in for grading.
Sorry for people who believe in this process but the idea of sending away priceless collectors items to a company/individuals with no oversight or way to monitor your goods and to just "trust" there wont be any fuckery is crazy to me.

People finding new and inventive ways to rip others off is as old as humanity itself. No matter what you're told nothing is proof against others tampering, replicating, breaking into, stealing or forging. People will always find a way eventually, just a matter of time.

100? If they say it's 100, it's probably more like a few thousand. This will hurt them and hurt them big time. If I had books to grade they wouldn't be going to this place to grade any longer.

I think graded comics should be stopped completely, they are nonsense and a waste of plastic. Just buy raw comics

I just purchased a copy of worlds finest #3 (first appearance of scarecrow) on eBay at a 3.0 for $3,000 plus shipping and tax. It’s the single most expensive book I’ve ever bought and I don’t think I’ll be doing that again anytime soon lol

I never collected any Comics but I think this might have killed the CGC. Now you never know if the CGC is real or not ... You better send your CGC to some other company that can great your comics again and can not be compromised.

I'm not shocked...scammers find their way in any area where there's money to be made. I'm sure its in the thousands because theres no way to narrow it down to a single individual if someone was able to do a whole tutorial on it.
It's unfortunate that scammers always find a way to exploit any community, especially when there is money involved. It's important to stay vigilant and do our research to protect ourselves.
This is sad news and definitely a hit. I have about 15 to 20 myself and have enjoyed collecting them. Some very pricey, and now hearing this will definitely have me rethinking if i should continue doing so. You can never have something good without it being watered down or scammed these days. Just a sad world we live in now.
Luckily I only get my own books signed and then graded, so I’ve never bought a pre graded book. But, still, that sucks.
I've knew this was happening, I've seen ebay listings and noticed that the books that were supposed to be 9.8 looked to be a lower grade with spine tics, roller over, ext.
I dont know!!! The guy is opening it with heat intentionally to pry to open, if thats the case it will open im sure. If its snapped in place it will be opened, if glued it can be opened with heat. What if one day some one wanted to extract a comic, it should be able to be opened or you may damage the comic other wise. This is just hype thats all.
All comics CGC-ed should be documented somewhere to be able to avoid any issues with fraud.
Apparently CGC already knows who that Ebay seller was that was suspected doing it. The thing that's going to happen now is new, more secure cases. Will people send their slabs back to cgc to get reholdered to the new ones? For sure this happens way often.
Would CGC foot that bill of people sending them back in. Seems like a great way for CGC to turn a profit.

I agree Chris. Nope, I think they are already looking forward to the money they will make on “You need the new , more secure and updated cases!” ….. for a certain price.
This is very sad news, but to be honest I'm not surprised. We live in a world were people are trying to do anything to scam people in getting free money. I give CGC applaus with their fast statement. But to be honest I do not think and believe that it's just 1 person with a 100 comics. We have to be honest, if 1 person can do it, then we know that more people can do it. I don't think that CGC at the moment see it like this, but this could ( potentially ) be a huge and massive blow for CGC. I think that we will see the effect of this news deep in 2024. But I hope that I'm wrong.

To be honest i dont cgc grade anything .if you can buy fake hot toys etc .people will always take advange .and i think slabbing comics toys is waste as iyou never know what in sealed toy box .or if comic is a print .copy etc. And you should never collect for value as it only worth what it means too you
Amen to that. If my collection ever goes way up in value from a money standpoint great, but I collected it because it's valuable to me having a room with all my favorite books and characters where I read new stories and re-read my favorites.

this only really concerns the high end collectors of marvel/dc blue chip keys... those are the books that will have been targeted due to their demand and large jumps in price between grades. If anyone's bought such a CGC in the last 2-3 years I'd be very concerned.
