It kinda sucks that nowadays many people have downgraded or have the wrong idea just saying stuff like "feet lol". Back in SF4 days I remember Juri getting my attention because her colors (purple the best color that has ever existed), those crazy eyes she has and also her hair horns. Don't forget about her very much needed fighting style the series was lacking. Back then it never occurred to me the whole feet thing (also it wasn't much of a thing as it is now)
They definitely play into it. Feels like it’s hollowed out her character into a bit of a meme.
While I won't pretend there's not a foot contingent, I think a decent amount of Juri fans just think it's badass that she gives like zero fucks and looks like a spider

I think it's a big hypocritical to pretend feet are the gutter of human taste while being ok with Chun being thiccness incarnate, Cammy flashing her buns at players for 25 years, or Mika having literal hearts on her girls.
Her voice actors are a major factor. They sound so...Juri.

Attitude/personality can make and break a character. Her voice is perfect example. Reason why I prefer her over Chun li and Cammy
I don't think Juri going anywhere she's stamped what made her unique and stand out was mostly her design as well being the first female character in the series to have a dark and sinister side plus her backstory automatically being tied to Shadaloo and Bison.

Hell, even in Smash Bros she's the only newcomer from the 3D games to be mentioned. Everything else they pulled from Street Fighter is from II, III, and Alpha, with Juri being the sole exception.
With all of anti-heroes John has pointed out there is 1 he neglect to mentioned that in some way corresponds to Juri in a way and that's Harley Quinn. A infamous Batman villian/hero who gain popularity in the 90's to early 2000 who is beautiful but has wild mischievous personality about her that's almost on par with Juri.
Aside from that the appeal for me with Juri was that of her fighting style being taekwando and overall design. Of course Juri relatively debuted in Super Street Fighter IV (alongside Hakan) who much like C.Viper has an intricate story revolving Shadaloo & Bison whereas others contributed by various fighters around the world and them having their own stories.
Still hoping and waiting for either Hakan & El Fuerte to return in SF6 someway, we need more SF4 representation in 6.
C.Viper is pretty much the only SF4 rep that people want. (Other than Juri of course).
Thats the one thing that SFV did better than 4.

@@akilcharles3473 I get what you mean, and i know capcom could do something cool, but the roster is kinda small and we already had a bunch of newcomers, imagine the public reaction if after months of asking for Dudley, Makoto, Sakura or Sagat, they get Rufus or El fuerte instead lol
@@Zelldic27 I mean there are some fans who actually like Rufus & El Feurte but aside from that the roster will expand more eventually and will just have a mix mash of certain characters(lets say 5) for every season of dlc coming down the line.
And you gotta remember is not just popular picks but different character archetypes and fighting styles as well those that fit the narrative in the either the World Tour story.
If anything Capcom will have say for example these 5 characters coming up next dlc like Makoto, Hakan, Sakura, Necalli & a newcomer to the roster which I expecting to be the case with that last one but time will tell.
@@akilcharles3473 I just happen to be one of those people. I used Rufus quite a lot and I found El Fuerte's depiction as a "fighting chef" pastiche pretty funny at times. I would love to see him brought back just to see the fandom go into meltdown. But they need to overhaul his moveset a bit and improve his overall background.
Juri is arguably the best character Capcom has introduced in the past 15 + years. Her OVA was great and you knew right from the start she was going to be a main stay in the series, as Capcom intended from the start to show her as a powerful character,she absolutely destroyed well established characters from the series like Chun, Cammy and Guile.
She had and has a lot going for her from a great visual design to unique gameplay and one of the few resource management characters in the series as well as a practitioner something the series was lacking. Her popularity has been recognized by Capcom as the character itself not only has been a part of the SF series ever since she was introduced but also part of several other games like Project x Zone ,the visual design is a clear winner since so many figurines and merch with Juri is being produced.
Honestly whoever defaults to "Feet lol" for a reason why Juri is popular is pretty much just a sheep who never really cared for the character in the first place.
In my opinion Juri is pretty much a main stay in the series and i seriously doubt there will be another SF game where she won't be added to the roster. Capcom has struck gold and they know it.
Yep, she's a experimental success of a character overall. Capcom at the time of creating her didn't think and expect she would become this popular and successful but, here we are lol. And you hit the nail on the head regarding her fan popularity. True fans of her see her more than just the feet crap.

SSF4 was my first SF game and Juri was my character. Her design and personality drove me to her. Was never that good at the game but I still loved grinding ranked with Juri. Also that intro with Juri, Chun, and Cammy fighting is the coolest shit ever.
She became one of the reasons I started training in Tae Kwon Do

I would argue that there’s simply not many villanous women in media, and Juri fills the archetype greatly. She’s sexy, yes, but she also has personality in spades. She’s powerful, but within her story she’s still an underdog and she retains agency. Her moveset is colorful, too, which helps greatly any fighting game character. She’s simply a greatly executed archetype that is also not as common as many others, and that’s always a recipe for success.
Its supe easy to write her character softer but she is def already emotionally engaging enough

I'm not a foot person but I've always loved Juri since I started sf4. Her design, voice, fughtibg style and specials all just felt so good to me so having her be a bigger part of the series these past two games has made me very happy. I mained her throughout 5's lifespan regardless of how mediocre she was, not to mention her story is great and a perfect parallel to chun's

Which funny because they whole "feets thing" dates back to her introduction in SF4.
She was fun to play the same way Sakura was fun to play in Zero 2 and Karin in Zero 3.
I think if the character outlives its starting iteration in the series => it's good enough to keep around.
After Zero 2, I always wanted Sakura in the next game.
Zero 3 had Karin.
3.3 had a lot of characters between the twins, Ibuki, Elena & Alex (who were all re-used at one point or the other).
SF4 (as a whole from SF4 vanilla to USF4) had Juri : she just was the most fun new character to play in those games.
Will she become the face of Street Fighter ? probably not.
Is the Chun-Li/Cammy duo of Femmes Fatales became a Trio after her debut ? Yes I think so, Juri even beat Sakura to it and she had a 10 years start.
On one hand I don't like they defanged her from a cold killer to hot bad girl but I also think if they want her to be a staple she can't be a villain that basically loses everytime. Her character in SF6 feels like the perfect direction to take her character, anger mixed with loneliness.
This is where I think Capcom went wrong with her. They shouldn't have made her into a more sympathetic anti hero. They should have just kept her as a bona fide villain. The fact that in the OVA, she carried out a civilian massacre, knocked the crap out of Chun Li Cammy and Guile and put one of the dolls in a coma should have let you know she's evil, plain and simple. On top of that I don't think they should have changed her play style in SFV. I have seen many people throughout its lifespan label her as one of, if not the worst character on the roster. Also her infamously bad theme music from having one of the best in SF4 and also Capcom squandering her in the cinematic story mode.
Juri's new DLC costume isn't one that suits a villain at all, it just makes her look less menacing.
She was the most successful because she was made at the PERFECT time and actually felt DIFFERENT and special to use and she didnt rely on the games engine to feel different.
And she had actual PERSONALITY and STORY
Something which characters like Ed, Necalli, Fang, Menat, Abigail, Manon, Marisa, Lily all lack.
JP is the closest thing to Juri since then because he has personality and actually feels different without relying on the games engine.

The best characters and the most successful have personality. Hakan honestly was a FANTASTIC add too, hope he comes back. As much as i hate Rashid, at least he had personality and was popular. His story was just terrible.
If you look at every single popular character, they all feel different and have a unique attracting personality to a particular kind of person.
Juri is the badass tough chick who seeks to destroy, Seth, Bison, and manipulate everyone and rule on her own terms
Dhalsim is "yoga" and very "zen" and calm.
Blanka is wild and all over the place
Honda embodies the "sumo" mindset
Ryu is determined to fight clean and grow as a warrior.
Ken is a family man and does whats right for himself and his family.
Cammy is an agent, and is an aggressive tough chick
Dan is funny and tries his hardest despite seeing his own flaws
Dee Jay is a party guy looking to have fun while he fights
Akuma is the Evil "obscure" character on the outskirts of everyone
M Bison is the main villain, the go to bad guy.
Sagat is Ryus nemesis and anti everything Ryu is
Adon is wild and chaotic and seeks to destroy Sagat and all he stands for
Ibuki is the cute ninja trying to be better but always being a goofball
Rose is the tarot card reader psychic fighter
Guy is the agile quick ninja
Cody is the street badass always doing his own thing
And then you have characters like Lily, Kimberly, Manon, Necalli, Ed, Falke with 0 personality or purpose and they just exist to either be "clones" of another character (lily is t hawk, kim is guy, manon is generic grappler) and its like, WTF is your story, and what ties do you have to anyone or anything in the SF universe?

And yea she is very similar to juri, I don’t really mind it tho I loved juri in sf4 back when that first came out.
I mean the ladder is Necalli who hardly has coherent sentences but others do have some personality but not as outgoing as Juri.
Ed being an orphan and raise under SIN labs and was taken in by Balrog rowing up to be as harden and tough like his foster father.
And Lily is from a native tribe of the Thunderfoot and is like a young curious girl who want to go out and explore the world(sounds familiar) like her "not father" T.hawk did.
Juri is special for her story is more intricate and focus on Shadaloo & Bison, I say much more than Chun-li do but as a anti-villian/hero type of way.

Her looks, her, fighting style, her backstory, her personality, her feet, her bellybutton, her voice, her outfits (excluding SFV) everything just clicks together for the perfect waifu.
Juri doesn't scream as a waifu you want to simp for because her sadistic personality makes her more likely to kill you if you try to ask her out.
You got it all right, personally I would not play a street fighter game without Juri.
Outside of her visual appeal Juri was just plain fun to play in sf4. Sure she had a high ceiling but even at lower levels dive kick punishing fireballs felt amazing. Sf5 fundamentally misunderstood this and made her a weird janky technical fighter. I'm glad sf6 has gotten back to her being fun with all skill level accessibility.

Juri’s my desktop wallpaper and was immediately fixated on her when she first showed up back then lol we all know why but she’s also just cool and a baddie
Pretty sure I'll always be a Chun-Li fan.

It's 95% her design. She just looks so cool and there's no other FG character that really looks like her. She's also "evil" or at least not good, which is fairly rare in SF and FG generally. She doesn't need to be the big bad of a story, but it's nice to see some threating figures beyond Shadaloo. Finally, they gave her strong story ties to existing popular SF characters. A big issue with Chun is that she never had an antagonist / rival. Yeah, she was hunting Bison, but so is 90% of the SF cast. Capcom was never going to make Chun an honest threat to Bison. Juri is a threat on her level. She can also be a minor rival to Cammy and give her something to do beyond the tired Shadaloo doll plot.

The ending is some clown shit. Just because a couple of chuckleheads emasculated their IPs it doesn't mean her style is going out of favor or that that trend is popular to begin with.
Those characters were already popular to begin with. And this is just an arc of their lives.

I think it speaks a lot to her design and backstory that she's gotten as popular as she has considering in SF4 and 5 she wasn't exactly the easiest character to master or the best in terms of tier placement. But I don't think her connection to M.Bison should be glossed over. This is detailed further in another Eventhubs video about the dictator, but she's another example of why M.Bison works as a perfect antagonist since everyone within his circle is just made that much more compelling through their differing connections to him.
She's Chun-Li if she fell to the dark side. Also younger. Both were victims of Bison, but by the time 6 drops, she has no direction since revenge wasn't personally claimed by her and she isn't motivated past the next stimulus.

I don’t have any problems with juri in the game I hope she stays a mainstay despite me not caring to much for her but I do hope to see more non sf2 characters in the starting roster I still find it crazy sakura, rashid and nobody from 3 weren’t in the starting roster but honda and dahlism (idk if I spelled that correctly)are in it and I highly doubt those two have more fans than sakura or rashid
Indicating that game characters becoming softer and that female game characters more modest might cause Juri to change is silly. Those qualities work for her, and as the rest of the industry takes a wrong turn, it's only going to make her even more of a standout.
It’ll be interesting to have the deadly female kick fest trio back in the form of Chun-Li, Juri, and Elena (when she comes).
The biggest reason why I love Juri is that she stands out so damn much from all the other Street Fighter characters. I have never been into SF before her, though have obviously heard of it thru cultural osmosis. None of the characters really appealed to me, and nothing about the games made me want to play any of them. But once Juri was introduced, she really got my attention! First from her design then from her characteristics. I love how she is just pure, chaotic evil and loves breaking her enemies to pieces.
It is so rare nowadays to make a female character evil, but her creators were smart enough to keep her from being edgy. Her overall personality really reminds me of Freddy Krueger, since both are having so much fun being evil and they want everyone to know that. In fact, she really feels like a killer from a Slasher movie, since nobody can stop her (like Jason Voorhees) she is relentlessly hunting down Bison (like Michael Myers) and looms over her victims (like Candyman).
All of this makes her REALLY stand out from the other characters in this series. Everyone else are just stereotypical anime-esque tropes we've been bored with since the 80s. Nothing but melodramatic kung-fu clowns, wannabe femme fatals, cranky old men, 14 year old girls, the list goes on. Introducing Juri to this stagnant series was a necessary as spraying air freshener in a bathroom where someone just took a nasty shit.
She is also a shinning example of how to make a female character sexy without having them just wear a string bikini (I despise her default SF5 outfit because it went against this). Sure, her sex appeal is a big part of her character, but her outfits in SF4 and SF6 still look far more practical than most other female characters in this series. Even her OVA didn't have the cliché of her taking a steamy shower or fighting off henchmen while she is half naked, like Chun Li (who is a thoroughly out dated character and needs to be put out to pasture). To put it simply, this series needs to be putting as much focus on Juri as possible, as she has already proven of being capable of bringing in a whole slew of new fans.
I only see Juri rising in popularity. The public will soon tire of the goodie-goodie wholesome hero and anti-heros will become center stage again. Games like Red Dead Redemption 2 have proven this!! Juri's popularity can even be proven statistically! Don't believe me? Capcom has an official site that shows which character gets used the most in SF6. Juri is either #1 or in the top 5 for almost every teir and in both control schemes! I have no doubt that Juri will soon overshadow every other character in this franchise and only increase from there!

Well Juri overshadowed C. Viper in popularity and acknowledgement to where Juri made subsequent playable appearances in ever Street Fighter game since her debut.
I think in the past 1-4 years or even more recently everyone for some reason has acquired a foot fetish. I see less and less people saying its weird and more people saying its hot lol 😆
Juri not going she's one of the biggest characters in Street Fighter in terms of popularity not putting her in more Street Fighter games would be a crime really she's just a notch below in popularity to Chun-Li, Cammy and possibly Sakura but Juri even has a moviw focusing on her she's definitely will be popping up more in the franchise.
She's pretty great. Seems like she might be sliding into a slightly more heroic category in the current game. (I'm not sure) and I was initially against it. Let us have SOME female villains that actually stay villains, I thought. Especially considering it is said the one who had her created expressly stated that she should be evil. But I always forget this series has Kolin and now we have Aki.
Regardless of her story alignment, her design is fire and just watching her fight is a treat. Who else moves like her? Her taunts, specials, normals supers are all wild and entertaining.
While she has been one of my favorites since here debut she is still behind Ken and Karin for me. I think it says a lot that people still wanted Juri despite not many seeming to like her play style in SF5.
There was a rather uncomfortable and downright creepy incident last year with a Juri Cosplayer at last year's Northern Ireland Comic Con in Lisburn. Her Juri costume was based on Thea Trinidad's Royal Rumble cosplay, meaning that along with the blonde streaks in her hair she was wearing the Juri design Air Jordans. As you'd expect, this did not sit well with quite a few male attendees at the event, who decided to heckle and yell abuse at her, most notably during one of the celebrity guest Q and A sessions, most notably during the one with Mara Wilson, she stood up to ask a question and some complete bellend yelled "lose the fucking shoes". One other person I know even said she saw one guy try to grab her leg and pull her shoe off.
This cosplayer I'd say was no older than undergraduate student age, possibly even A-Level student age and she had to put up with this crap almost the entire time she was there. Fair play to her for just trying to get on with things. A lot if the people that were giving her all this abuse were stupid kids, but some of them looked like they were in their 20s and 30s.
Seriously, sex appeal. Everyone else that was pointed out lacks it in some way.

I love Juri. I love tae kwon do so I resonate with her fighting style. I'm a lot into this kind of sadist characters that don't do things for good or evil but instead because they enjoy it; I love that amorality. Fung Shui Engine is a super fun install that mekes me feel I'm playing an anime game (my favourite fg sub genere).
I don't think she is losing popularity any time soon. She is a badass antihero because of her personality, not the other way around. And she's not just a hot body, she's genuinely attractive.

She's to Chun-Li what Vergil is to Dante and look how beloved this guy has become after appearing in DMC3.
People love the shadow character archetype, people love characters like Juri and Catwoman, the ones who have maxed out the hot crazy scale, people love antiheroes and everything they used to put her together just works, including the voice actress. They knew back then they had a hit with Juri. I will never play her since I like characters that rely more on punching, like Steve, Ed, Dudley and Vanessa but for me Juri is here to stay and I would raise an eyebrow if she wouldn't be included in the next main roster.
Yeah but i hope that she get's a happy ending too. My boy Vergil reached his personal goal to have more power possible and he succeded. Juri Han also needs to be successful and kill Bison,now that he returned in Street Fighter once again (Maybe in the next game it will happens,since Juri Han got her ass kicked by him for a second time)
@@gabry2328 Vergil never got to defeat Dante and he needs to be stronger than anyone or anything to feel safe and satisfied, he may be still trapped in that psychological loop and while he seems calm at the end of DMC5 it's never fully stated that he escaped it. So it doesn't quite feel like an happy ending or something major has changed for him.
And with Bison, a villain who's whole thing is to resurrect, this might be never ending as well...
@@marcbraun5342 So neither Dante. Pretty sure he can't even defeat Vergil now compared in DMC 3 and DMC 1,so that's already a W for Vergil in my opinion (Also,in the special edition of DMC 5,in the alternative ending Vergil "defeats" Dante while they are both equal opponents,even if isn't canon)
@@gabry2328 Dante doesn't need to defeat Vergil, it isn't his personal goal to fullfilment and not in the back of his head all the time. And he did defeat Vergil in DMC1 while he was Nelo Angelo, in DMC3 at the end and in DMC5 Vergil was defeated by Dante and Nero. Vergil doesn't seem to be close to his goal being stronger than anyone, Dante just wants the human world to be save.

Juri isn't an anti-hero, because she doesn't have any heroic qualities, other than wanting to rid the world of Bison. She does however have villainous qualities in spades. Let's not allow horniness to blur the line- she's a straight up villain. A villain with a tragic backstory, but a villain nonetheless.

I seriously doubt story plays any real part in SF (or other fighting games, tbh) character popularity. A ton of fans still can't even pronounce Ryu and Chun-Li's names correctly, and good luck getting a summary of anyone's backstory out of any but the smallest part of the fanbase. Juri just lucked out and got an immediately iconic design and personality. That's what matters most, and that's what they've done better with her than probably any other character in the franchise this side of Akuma.

i feel like the anime having her just perfectly win against everybody is kinda weak writing tbh, characters being totally invulnerable makes them not as relatable. i still love the character bc her moveset has always been super stylish and cool and her triple hitting dive kick made her not that tricky to use at a basic level for just doing a cool thing when you're playing casually

The pajama (3rd outfit) and the moves.. I actually really dislike feet, but her stylized Taekwondo moves are really on their own level that haven't been seen in the series before. Voice, attitude and backstory takes a backseat to the looks of the moves done in a silly pink pajama

I like Juri because she is a Taekwando practitioner and has a good move set, but Chun-li will always be my favorite. Even as someone with a foot fetish, I don't get the sex appeal of Juri. She's not an attractive character.

Nothing about her is anti-hero because nothing she does could be seen as heroic. Anti-Villian however....as for her personality, its over done by this point. Its kinda new in the SF franchise but it comes off as tryhard in its execution. Harley Quinn, Mileena, Tira and Poison already exist. Its more annoying than cool to me.
In her defence though, her fighting style while not traditional, was a glaring omission from the franchise, so she has worth on that front.
