I bought a 1969 Charger R/T /SE when I was 13. I paid $900.00 for it ,it was an all original.Being an Illinois car it was eaten up with rust. My intention was to have all fixed up by the time I got my license. My dad told me it wasn't worth fixing up,so I sold it right after I turned 16. Found out about a year later the guy that bought it ,totaled it around a telephone pool driving drunk😢.

Magnificent 1968 Dodge Charger R/T in orange! A similar model that would be immortalized in the popular series The Dukes of Hazzard from 1979. Interesting was the story of how he obtained it (at the age of 14) and how he recovered it again, after it was stolen. Great ride and sounds of the end... Best regards, Lou!
What a great car, great story and Chris is a nice fella. In 1979 when I was 13 I talked my dad into helping me buy a 1971 Dodge Challenger RT 383 4 speed. We paid $550 for it! It was all original and it was in great mechanical shape but it needed a paint job. I wish I still had her today!

My uncle bought a blue ‘68 Charger R/T returning from Vietnam. It was around 1981/82 when a stranger approached him while working in his yard, the R/T parked on driveway. Uncle accepted this fella’s offer and with a bill of sale in hand watched his four speed 440magnum baby drive away. Moving his family to NV no longer could keep the car. Hardly two weeks had gone by when sheriffs deputies came a knocking. Asked about car and was handed the bill of sale. He was told the car was used as the getaway car from an armed robbery of a bank. The thieves were able to escape the police because the car was so fast. Uncle was so glad he had bill of sale otherwise he was gonna go with the “nice” officers and have a “talk”. I remember riding in the car a few times and it was always a fun time for this young kid.
Had to watch this one as well! And any other of his collection. Must be such a feeling to still have your 1st car you started driving in. BIG $exy car! They were originally about $3500-3600 list price. About 4 grand got ya all the bells and whistles. Hemi engine under the hood was about 800 to 900 bucks. Mid 4 grand. $4500-4600 got you the top of the line Charger.
Hi Henry, Happy to read you enjoy Chris and his stories :-) Good news! Stay tuned as more of his cars will come up in future episodes. You're welcome, Lou
My first car, which I bought when I was 18, was a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T (yes, with the R/T flange on the door) with the 440. It was "Plum Crazy" (purple). Oh do I miss that car! Thanks for the memory, Lou and Chris!
@@loucostabile I forgot to mention, the one down side was that guys were constantly trying to steal my Charger. When I was still living with my parents, my father came out one morning and found a guy sitting in the driver's seat of my car. He had managed to break into the car, but he didn't know how to start it! Cheers!
Another great story of a boy and his car... another sad testament to the ambivalence of police in general. Had a friend who's vehicle was stolen from in front of their business. While on the phone with police, giving instructions on which way the thief went (still in view), the dispatcher told him they had no interest in "intercepting the vehicle". And that unless the truck was stopped for a traffic violation they weren't likely to recover it. I fully expect that in the future police agencies will have fully automated phone recordings with a robotic voice saying "Contact your insurance".

@@loucostabile hi I like all old cars but mostly mopar I look for stuff nobody has seen or heard of I have a list of cars I want. Right now I’m looking for a DUDE and a midnight express and a wizard that I will never find lol
I looked at a 69' Charger as one of my first cars to buy in the mid 70s. Ended up with a 69' Road Runner. My actual first car was a hand me down 65' Cuda.
My first car I bought at 17 a 1968 dodge charger rt stripe delete or painted over it was dark blue with blue interior automatic column shift 900.00 cash. I took her to earl scheib 99.95 picked out turquoise blue they did a great job. I loved that car I got sent over seas and my x wife & father in law traded it in because they had just found out my wife was pregnant while I was on leave I been looking for it ever since. I loved the dukes but loved the 1968 model more. Nice car brother
Hi Joel, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Sad to read your car was traded in while you were away :-( Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
He’s such a lucky man. If I win the Georgia lottery ever (have to drive 45 mins there because it’s still illegal in AL of course) the first thing I’m doing is buying a 69, followed by 68, followed by 70 Chargers, and a Plymouth roadrunner. Those chargers and roadrunner are the coolest cars to ever exist, and nothing else will ever come close. I have a 2010 Crown Vic Police Interceptor (the most underrated car ever IMO, despite being a little slow, it’s tough, utilitarian, and sounds ungodly amazing) that I’ll never give up either, it’s in really good shape for a former police car, minus the bumper, but that’s not a hard fix.
Another one of your videos that I love. I'd recently subscribed to this channel due to all the vids you did w/ some of my favorite Chevys and & a '64 Galaxie or two, my #1 favorite Galaxie by far. And here it feels like it just keeps getting better. Somehow, I'm impressed that you made it out to the Far West for a vid. I'm a native Washingtonian living across the water from Seattle. So Medford is roughly an 8 hour drive south of me. But, less than an hour further south is California. The mountains to the south of the Rouge Valley, where Medford is, the Oregon/California border is down the other side of those mountains (on the slope of them). And that section of California, I'm really into. It's also more open & barren than anywhere in Western Oregon; so I'd feel like I really have entered California & not still in Oregon. I've found many backroads right of I-5, in that area where I've enjoyed taking my cars for spins exactly like this guy did in is orange charger. And since it's 9 hours one way from my home in Washington, I like to spend 2-3 nights down in Yreka or Weed (Calif.) just to have ample hours & days to do it before going back. I mentioned my red '64 Impala SS in the comment section of one of your other vids. Mine has a remanufactured 327 with 330 horsepower with its original powerglide automatic. Well there's fixing to be a time when I'll get that car down thru Jackson County, Oregon (where Medford is) to Siskiyou County, CA and do the same thing. Just a question of when. I'll need to make sure it's a full 100% ready for the major highways. And a '62-4 Impala w/ either a 409 or 300+HP 327 is enough to make me feel like 1 of the characters in "American Graffiti" when his buddy, played by Ron Howard, gave him he keys to his white '58 Impala. Anyway, I just really wanted to share all that. I know it's a lot. And I watched the 22 min. vid of this guy's Mopar collection. And I saw that dark green '69 as well is this '68 that was in this one. And on the scale of 1 to 10 for with charger is the favorite, the '68 happens to be mine that ranks #11 w/ the '69 at 10; because of the round tail lights making the '68 unbeatable for my favorite Charger. Also there's been another guy in Gold Hill, 10 miles north of Medford, owning an exact replica of the Dukes of Hazzard's General Lee.
Hi Kevin, Welcome to the Channel :-) Thanks for sharing. Glad to read this one is a 11 for you! Hmmm, General Lee...like this one? Lou ruclips.net/video/nHgUS-Hgx98/видео.html
@@loucostabile I just wanted to get back and say thanks for the link to that other video of that "General Lee" survivor. Yeah, in a way, it doesn't surprise me much if many of the real General Lee's didn't have a whole lot of horsepower and therefore couldn't really do a whole lot for you compared to ones with the actual muscle car engines in them. Same thing was true of the cop cars and the Trans Am's that Burt Reynolds drove in the movie with him driving those. Totally understandable since SO many of those cars were needed. But this particular "General Lee" and other ones that didn't have the more potent Mopar motors could sure simulate what all ones like that orange 440 powered '68 are capable of. Again, thanks for that vid.
My favorite car! 1968 Dodge Charger. Perfection. You seen it Lou at the age of 14. The 70 Roadrunner is close. Many would contest this. On RUclips, Nicks Garage did a restoration on a Charger and brought it back to the original Yellow. I think it was a 1970. I find it interesting your car was also originally yellow. My first thought was, nah. But after seeing it restored back to yellow, it changed my mind. It's stunning. So is yours. Personal taste. But yellow is the original code color. Just a thought. . .
Hi Mike, Happy to read "My favorite car!" :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing. Good news! Like this yellow car? Lou ruclips.net/video/wPKr75gDsAk/видео.html
1968-1970 Chargers are Timeless beauties. I personally have always liked the '68 tail lights & the '69 front split grill, that be my version . . A 1968 1/2 model 😊
Beautiful car Lou I always wanted a Dodge Charger myself after watching Dukes of Hazzard then I wanted a 70 Dodge Challenger R/T after seeing Vanishing Point. But I ended up with my petty blue 73 Plymouth Duster as my first car (which I still own). So I came out good in the end with my first car.
Nice. I have family in Medford. Wish i was there. Was a month or so ago. Car,,,,,off the hook. Had a 383 Mag 727 '69 SG i bought for $750 in '77. a fender would be at least 3x the price now,,,,,,if one could find one. Rock and roll on!!
I would rather have the 1968 charger. My favorite of all charger's. My dad had a 1971 charger 500 with a 440 in it in the early 1970s. Not a big fan of chargers after 1970. Thanks for showing this beautiful car guys.
wow .. great story -- beautiful condition and looks new, what a journey .. unbelievable technology in those days .. so definitive design and powerful motor .. museum potential .. great story Lou -- thanks for sharing
Hola Lou, buenos tardes.
I’ve seen this charger at classic car shows in Medford and grants pass. I was surprised when you said Medford Oregon because I’m out of the apple gate/Williams valley.

Looks alot like my charger, mine was also the pale yellow color but is now hemi orange. Mine started life as a 68 but I converted it to a 69. I like the taillights on a 69 better than the 68's myself.
Beautiful car and beautiful story to go along with it I love those original youngsters that get their car and fix it up over the years the true gearheads
Nice car. We all love the!! Car the Mustang Boss 1969 or the Mach 1 same year but they are ridiculously too high. What I like about the other models from 1969 to 1973 is you can find easy in the 30k-40k price range. Got a Nova SS 1969 I paid 32k

It's personal preference (6:25) but to me the 68 is best looking of the second generation Chargers. Best tail lights by far. Also best looking front facia with a clean though aerodynamically challenged (like the rear window buttresses) front grill. I had a 68 Coronet R/T, also purchased in 1978, but I was already turning 16 that year and I had to pay a whopping $1,200 although mine was running when bought. I hate to be "that guy" as soon mine became not entirely stock, but I would prefer to see the engine painted turquoise as other 68's and with standard more rectangular and straighter 68 Charger/Coronet R/T exhaust tips (5:24), mostly because that's what I was used to with my car. But all and all, a fantastic car and most importantly Chris still owns his while mine was regrettably and inexplicably donated to charity by my parents in the late 80's as I had no place to keep it and they wanted it out of their garage. I wish I would've found a way to keep it...😥

I was 15 and tried to buy. 1969 GTX. Fresh race built 440magnum. Four speed with pistol grip. Freshly gone through. $2000. I didn’t have it. Two weeks later Some dad bought it for his teenage daughter. First day or two of owning it she had managed to reshape the car in to a letter “V”. The innermost point where the lines meet is where the power pole was when the car bent around it. That was in ‘85..
Great story and a classy owner. Had two questions, what year was it that he first saw the car and did Chris still have the Army sticker on the rear window?

Growing up for me these were not my GO TO Cool Car because I never seen one in this condition growing up. Living in working class NewEngland but the time I seen a Charger of this vintage there was nothing left to them. All beat up and rusted If I had seen these Brand New in the show rooms I am sure I would have had this on my Favorites list no doubt. I missed out. Even Mustangs never seen many in new like condition. Plenty of Wagons and 4 dr Sedans family cars and VW BUGS lol
The funny thing is, he likely payed right around what these cars were selling for back then lol. They were just "old worn out cars" back in the late 70's, early 80's. Hard to imagine, these highly collectables now, used to be nearly a dime a dozen. My folks used to have one, all worn out too. Probably payed around the same amount lol. Mom ended up wrapping it around an electric pole with me as a little baby ending up (harmless) on the floorboard hahaha (she wasn't going fast, just driving it in the winter on snow and these are just all uni-body, they fold right up on impact). Car seats and seat belts? People didn't start using those really, until the late 80's, early 90's. Many young people don't really know this. All the time growing up as an 80's kid, we NEVER wore seat belts and often rode on the back up pickup trucks too. Just completely unsecured sitting in the bed. Millions of 80's kids did this all the time. Seems so stupid looking back at that now, but it was not even a thought of how dangerous it was back then.

I AM INDEED taking in that rear three quarter view and hence my opening line, man. She is a thing of beauty, this Charger. Is there a sexier muscle car extant? I think not. (Check out the big words, big bro😜) In fact, I would dare say this is the Jessica Rabbit of muscle cars and has 14 year old boys (and 50 something year old men😉🤩) drooling, stuttering and pointing for time immemorial. Forever one of those awesomely irreverent Duke Boys. Chris has one helluva awesome story, Lou. This Charger was clearly destined for him, and it is a pleasure to see their story here. The last burst on that road was EPIC, man. Big bro Chris had his foot on the gas with that V8 roaring and I was right there with you guys! Thanks Lou. JV Johnny ⚾

I can picture myself being 14 and buying this car. 😊
Nice!
Fantastic Charger! Just love it.
Thanks Lou and Chris!
Hi Jeff, Happy to read "Fantastic Charger!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
BIG $exy car! They were originally about $3500-3600 list price. About 4 grand got ya all the bells and whistles. Hemi engine under the hood was about 800 to 900 bucks. Mid 4 grand. $4500-4600 got you the top of the line Charger.
Hi Rick, Happy to read you enjoy this "BIG $exy car!" :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
If you ask someone with little car knowledge to tell you the name of any classic muscle car, this car would be their answer
Charger is a good answer :-)
Chris is awesome and he has an amazing story /stories to tell. And he's just such a nice guy to. Great video I enjoyed a lot. Thanks
Hi Henry, Happy to read you enjoy Chris and his stories :-) Good news! Stay tuned as more of his cars will come up in future episodes. You're welcome, Lou
Dream car.
Thanks, Lou.
Hi Mighty Lonesome, Happy to read this is a "dream car" for you :-) You're welcome, Lou
My first car, which I bought when I was 18, was a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T (yes, with the R/T flange on the door) with the 440. It was "Plum Crazy" (purple). Oh do I miss that car!
Thanks for the memory, Lou and Chris!
Hi texanfournow, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 1st car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
Hi 20alphabet, Happy to read you enjoy this story :-) Sad to read what happened to your Friend's stolen car :-( Lou
I’m glad I’m not the only one that still has there first chargers I was 11 or 12 when I bought mine

The car and story we wish we all still had 😎
You're right.
I looked at a 69' Charger as one of my first cars to buy in the mid 70s. Ended up with a 69' Road Runner. My actual first car was a hand me down 65' Cuda.
Sounds like some fun cars :-)
The charger model is immortal
Happy to read this model is "immortal" :-)
This is a great story and an amazing car! Wouldn't change a thing, looks perfect! Good work Lou and thanks.

Hi Andrew, Hope your numbers come in order :-) Lou
Wow! What a great story . Congrats . Beautiful car .
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car and the story too :-)
My favorite car! Just a thought. . .

1968-1970 Chargers are Timeless beauties. I personally have always liked the '68 tail lights & the '69 front split grill, that be my version . . A 1968 1/2 model 😊
Combo Charger :-)

Beautiful car Lou I always wanted a Dodge Charger myself after watching Dukes of Hazzard then I wanted a 70 Dodge Challenger R/T after seeing Vanishing Point. But I ended up with my petty blue 73 Plymouth Duster as my first car (which I still own). So I came out good in the end with my first car.
Hi PlymouthDuster225, Happy to read "So I came out good in the end with my first car" :-) NICE! Lou

Hola Lou, buenos tardes.

Not sure the exact year purchased.
Funny! I thought he bought it in 1968 at the age of 14.
Looks alot like my charger, mine was also the pale yellow color but is now hemi orange. Mine started life as a 68 but I converted it to a 69. I like the taillights on a 69 better than the 68's myself.
Hi Chad, Happy to read you have a Charger too :-)

Luckily, Chris's Charger didn't end up like the one in Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.😃

We all love the!! Car the Mustang Boss 1969 or the Mach 1 same year but they are ridiculously too high.
What I like about the other models from 1969 to 1973 is you can find easy in the 30k-40k price range.
Got a Nova SS 1969 I paid 32k

I still prefer the 69 Charger, but I wouldn't say no to this one. Beautiful.
....well if you like the 69 Charger....stay tuned there might be two coming up in future episodes :-)

Hi Electric Hellion, Sad to read this car ended up in a V :-( Lou

HI gen978, You're right. The quarter panels didn't last too long if the car was in the wrong climate. They rusted out pretty quick. Lou

"Holy tubesocked stocking feet knockouts, Batman🤣😜!!" Yup, big bro Lou. Yuper, man. Robin/JV Johnny is easily in his stocking baseball guy feet. Thanks Lou. JV Johnny ⚾
