Update: The NFL is going to allow a third QB to dress for games without counting against the 53-man roster. Looks like Malik has an opportunity to be more than a practice guy this year. Thoughts?
Everyone always says Bill likes his versatile players. The league gave him a extra roster spot so maybe he thought let me get an athlete who could do more than be an emergency option at QB
I'm 95% sure he makes the roster. If he has a brain Malik is a guy that can come in and win some games while he developes. He will make the team as the 3rd QB for sure because he can play the mobile QB role at practice That's priceless
They also got Trace Mcsorely which is a similar type of player. My guess, is that they feel like Malik Cunningham was the best USDA to mimic the best mobile QBs in the league. I think he'll be very active in practice doing that role. I think both him and Trace will help the defense prepare for those types of players while developing as passers. I don't have any solid evidence, but I'd bet money that the bringing in of Malik & Trace are connected to the drafting of Monte Mapu and some anticipated defensive scheme changes
I expect they will use him at RB, WR, and QB. Bill O'Brian should install a wild cat, spread, and RPO packages. He could be deadly in the red zone and an instant spark helping Mac Jones be more efficient. Of all the rookies on the roster, I am most excited about him. I hope Douglas and Boutte can contribute with one of them becoming a consistent playmaker.
Every year I get hyped for guys like this and boutte. I HAVE GOT TO REMEMBER that the OVERWHELMING likelihood is he won't make the 53. Remember we have like 5 QB to start camp last season?! We even added a guy like Malik to start the year. So, that said, we will soon see!!!

He is going to be the ultimate practice squad qb for the pats. Hell never start as a qb unless there are major injuries but with him BB can game plan against QBs like Lamar.
I agree. At a minimum is a lamar simulator. However, I would like to see him make the roster if he can run, catch, and potentially throw the ball on gadget/trick plays. Anything to score points this year.
@@patsstats I'm not sure he has the hands to play WR in this league he is def intriguing but the points about his throwing motion you bring up early on are a major detractor. Not saying he can't develop it just seems like raw talent isn't going to get you a starting roll at a position that requires extreme expertise
His size and he's weakness is not ideal for QB, I think him coupled with tyquan they can stretch the field with competence and the yes and juju can beat up that defense in the first 10 to 15 yards of scrimmage which will also leave less defenders in the box to stop the pats run ,
I would start him day 1 or week 7 Jones and Zappe arm strength is high school level or maybe a bit better this guy Cunningham can learn the system with no problem with the Patriots run game and this guy break away speed that team would win more games if Zappe was the QB.
@@ashleygarcia8095 you think Mac is good? It would be weird for Bill to stick with any player when a better cheaper replacement presents himself. Jimmy G wasn't better than Tom Brady. Bailey zappe was only about even with Mac Jones. It doesn't look like it'd take much for the kid to be better.

He'll be a great wr
Wildcat!
Love the thought of having a player like this I think he is the 3rd QB.
MAC of what ever his name is better watch his back
Bill Just might flip styles on yall
Bill is a genius so don’t underestimate
Waiting for this one

Could be a practice squad guy and do that.
Well... here we go
Not sure where they plan to use him but it’s unlike the Pats to pony up that much for a guy who didn’t get drafted

@@joshuatelem8796 that’s what I think because let’s be honest mobile qbs shred this team

It isn't likely that he will be on the 53. But, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he does make it.

@@Ollaniusperrson I agree
Pocket qbs preferred in New England. At university of Alabama look how jalen hurts turned out. Qbs in New England beware malik cunningham. He coming!!
One things for damn sure hes gotta be better at laterals then jakobi myers so thats already a plus plus put him in coach!

JuJu on mesh routes should be interesting
BoB is an rpo heavy OC I believe we'll use him (Cunningham) in multiple ways including some type of Wildcat
If we got a Lamar without the drama and price, the league and Mac are in trouble

Having Malik on the roster would be interesting.
Funny how just couple years ago, dual threat QBs "couldn't win super bowls". Now same people looking for em every draft
They changed the rules so you can't touch qb down field
This guy is an UDFA lol. Slow down
The rules have definitely been manipulated to being offensive friendly & the good Ole days are long long gone
I do recall the Pats drafting a certain QB that transitioned to a slot WR. I think it worked out for them. ;P
Julian Edelman and Jakobi Myers. But I know you are referring to Jules.
Pats Taysom Hill
Could see him run a RED ZONE SHORT DISTANCE OFFENSE for the Patriots.
He’ll be starting by the end of the year
They wanted to trade old Mac Jones 🤣😂
If the Pats start off 1-7... maybe we see Zappe... then maybe we see Malik start at QB... maybe. I am thinking we see him in gadget plays.
Dollar Bill don't like Mac the mouth. This kid is the week 9 starter if not week one.
Nah Mac will be the starter for all games
