I only have two I'm thirteen will they be fine in my 20 gallon with 2 zebra Danios 4 bronze corydoras and feeder guppies for a few months until I can get a job so I can buy more.
Finally have found a video that really hit all the marks for tiger barbs. I absolutely love them. I have found they are very hardy in my water parameters. I have them in a 55 gallon with a powerhead, and good filtration. They are absolutely gorgeous in a school of at least 10, imo. Mine school quite tightly. Just amazing in a tank with plenty of swimming room. A triangular aquascape gives you some interesting views and places for them to race through.
Thank you for your videos! I find that I always check to see if you have posted about certain livestock or equipment before making a purchase. I'm very grateful for the quality of advice you offer.
My Tigers are huge. Definitely need a larger tank since they love to chase each other and play follow the leader. They're goofballs especially when they go vertical.
Wow I didn't know some people hated on these fish, I always found them extremely intelligent because I feel like they're always planning stuff to do and they're just so interesting to watch. These were my first fish 15 years ago and I still keep them.
I recently set up a planted 40 gal breeder as a tiger barb tank. It's currently got 18 tigers and 8 green tigers and has quickly become my favorite tank. They're beautiful fish and are super active, especially at feeding time. I've had zero issues with aggression or anything else, it's really been a great experience so far.
4ft tank plus . Dont mix the variants , they can shun the ones that are different. Good water is crucial ! When they get sick they pass it on very easily cause of the close schooling. I recommend those interested in getting to stick to an Asian themed aquarium just because Tetras are more ideal for a South American tank (less nippy)
I will get a few more tomorrow. I swear I had even number of tiger barbs now ones missing but I don't see it anywhere awesome info had to watch this couple times :)
this fish always draws my interest and gaze when im at the petstore, i dont have a setup for them right now but they are on my shortlist of potential "next setup"
Love the tiger barbs. I actually have some in a 60G with a red shoulder peacock that won’t play nice with the rest in my African cichlid tank. He chase’s them some but over all they work as a dither fish. I also have buenos Aries tetras in that tank. Similar temperament to the tiger barbs. Oddly enough it works
I first kept them as a dither fish for my first cichlids (Firemouth, Herotilapia (rainbow cichlid), and a Honduran Red point). 12 Tigers with the 3 cichlids in a 75gal, and the tigers just bickered amongst themselves, and the cichlids did the same.
Thanks Jason! Just watched this again. I have a 55 gallon that I set back up planted etc. thinking about getting 15-20 green tiger barbs, 6 or so khouli loaches and maybe adding one of my severums. Any thoughts?
I bought a group of 8 when I first started keeping fish. I had an idea on how to take care of them but I definitely learned that they're aggressive. I'm thankful my group of 8 lasted till I learned I needed more and once I had a group of 14 they started breeding. I've never tested my water but then again I never really had to because of my tank setup. I've never lost a fish due to water quality. Lost plenty of fish to power outages tho! All fish keepers should invest in some sort of battery backup for their tanks. Tiger barbs are cool and have alot of personality and aren't shy. Mine love eating right out my hand.
They have great personality and they are so inquisitive, when I do maintenance, all other species are like...run to the hills!...while the tiger barbs gang keep nibbling at my hands. 😁
@@jeffalbillar7625 thankfully I've never had any algae blooms. I try to keep my tanks as natural as possible and do as little maintenance as possible. Lots of plants and good filters help keep my water in great condition. A big tank helps too. I have a school of about 30 in a 55 gallon long.
@@HeadHoncho727 everything was going fine, but I had just put 2 pothos cuttings in and I decided to put a smaller light over the pothos, and over the tank by proxy. But, I ignored my thoughts, and I really didn't think that the smaller light would be a problem. I uploaded a video showing my tank and explaining everything. I love my tigers! I haven't had no problems with them except when i only had a couple they were mean to each other! After I had about 5 never had trouble. Had them in community tank no problems now that they are bigger made a all barb tank.
It’s definitely good to get larger groups of fish, in general, and try to get them all at once, per species. Especially for nippy or aggressive species. Introducing smaller groups, potentially from different sources, at different times can add to stress levels and throw off their little pecking orders. For communal species, it’s not such a problem to introduce more fish later on, as we know they’re likely to be accepted. But for example, I had a betta sorority before, only twelve females in a 30 gallon tank, but I made sure to purchase all twelve female bettas the SAME DAY. I’d do the same with barbs. Introduce them to your tank as a complete group so they can immediately figure out their social ranking. So yeah, I agree that bigger schools are always better, when possible, and that’s true with the majority of fish species (or so I’ve found). More individuals will effectively "smooth out" the need for dominance or aggression. Smaller schools (i.e., less than 10) of semi-aggressive species will become brutal quickly as they feel the competition more for resources and, ultimately, survival. But for the peaceful species, larger groups will simply relax them and make them feel more at ease, thus becoming more active and healthier overall. Everyone said kuhli loaches will never be found? I had ten at one point, half black ones and the others striped, and they were active ALL the time… especially at night of course, swimming all over the place. The black ones are the more hyper ones, not sure why, while the striped ones don’t swim to the surface so often, but they def weren’t shy when they had a group. One day I want to have a tiger barb-only tank, or possibly a giant tank with strictly tiger barbs & clown loaches, or possibly some other botia. Zebra, dwarf chain, yo yo. The colors are just complimentary, with clowns & tigers 😊
I'm really happy to finally see some good information on Tiger Barbs. I bought a group as dither fish form my SA cichlid. They worked well aggression wise but they were also gluttonous little a$$holes who out competed my green terror for food. They'd eat until their abdomens got distended and I'm surprised they didn't explode. The convict and firemouth were fine but I seriously think my green terror is stunted now. I finally moved them to their own tank and the little ba$tards are now on a diet. Lesson: only keep them with other aggressive eaters.
I have a 10 gallon and 2 tiger barbs and 1 glofish...these were my first fishes and i really want more tiger barbs but would i be able to with a 10 gal? Or would i need to upgrade?
We've always gotten barbs for our community tanks and they are so fun to see them link up together. We like to get the different colors and name them after pop culture groups.....
I bought these with the intention of keeping a school of ten in a 30-gallon (36" long) with 4 Giant Danios and 1 Bristlenose. Unfortunately, they didn't even make it through quarantine before they started killing each other. I'm now down to three, of which I rarely see more than one out at a time (while the other two hide). Interestingly they haven't bothered any of the other species I've kept them with (Giant Danios, Bristlenose Plecos, White Clouds and Peppered Corydoras).
I've done a mixture of the regular tiger barbs with greens, albinos and platinums, 10 of each, and the effect was just striking. A similar scape to the aquashella tank you showed in the video with an epiphyte planted island in the centre and plenty of swim space. It's been one of my favourite projects to date.
I saw a 200 gallon+ tank on RUclips (Aquarium Co-Op?) w/ only Tiger Barbs & Clown Loaches. Amazing! Made me look twice at a spp. I always demonized, but not for any of my communities. How might they do w/snails & perhaps larger crayfish?
Jason I love tiger barbs will always keep them I get conflicting info as usual with any fish, what are the proper parameters for them as far as ph, I don’t chase ph but to thrive , what would be that sweet spot in ur experience for them ?
Dear jason. pls suggest me if i use ehem uv isterlizer 500 in my 75 gallon tangalyika cichlids aquarium.after that any other king of filter is required or not ? if required suggest me which one ?
The tiger barbs would probably make hard for pea puffers to find food? Plus - I could see them stressing out the pea puffers because tiger barbs are so active.
Love my tigers, dont find them aggressive at all, just when it comes to feeding, difficult to get the less quicker fish the food they need. 40 gal planted tank 14 tiger's and filled with shrimps, snails, pleco and a few other fish
I love my tiger barbs! Definitely agree, not a beginner fish. I have a group of 15 in a heavily planted 75 gallon with Roseline sharks, peppered corys, and 2 pea puffers. Love them so much. Thanks for reminding me how much I love them. One issue I’ve had is they hate my aquarium lights. They disappear into the Amazon sword forest when the lights come on.
I have angels, tetras , zebras along with tiger barbs in my aquarium...but they are not causing any issue to other breeds...till date i have not seen them causing any problem to other breeds especially angels that are long finned...🥰🥰
@@PrimeTimeAquaticsThank you for the advice. I ended up getting 4 more and got a smaller piece of driftwood, re-scaped it a bit so they can have more room to tussle around.
I used to keep the tiger and albino barbs. They ripped the fins of my long fin betta. How did you manage to keep your water so clear? I can never get my water so clear
Can a group of 12 barbs be mixed and be fine or should they all be the same kind of barb? I really like the green but would like to have tiger too. Or is that a bad idea?
I only have two I'm thirteen will they be fine in my 20 gallon with 2 zebra Danios 4 bronze corydoras and feeder guppies for a few months until I can get a job so I can buy more.
After months of just thinking about switching out my 29 gallon tiger barb tank for a 55, I finally made the move and donated the 29 setup to my in-law and we and the fish are all happy!
@@JeezWhiz1 sweet I wish you could post pictures on RUclips. I'm waiting for my basement remodel to wrap up so I can get another tank. I currently only have two
Hello Jason, I have tried to breed tiger barbs before, but the eggs got fungus. I am going to use methylene blue now. Jason should I put it before or after the the spawning? Thanks
I am currently planning to redo my 55 gallon. It is 48" long. I am wanting to pair Tiger Barbs with Electric Blue Acaras. Could I keep 4 Electric Blue Acaras with a dozen Tiger Barbs in a that tank? Or would that be too much for that aquarium?
Wow these are so beautiful. 😍😍 Sir I don't know if you're aware but @lady metalhead is requesting video footage of tiger barbs to do a Memorial video for the Late Mr. T. Bones. Maybe you could email her some of your b roll of these beautiful tiger barbs. Thank you Sir. 🙏🙏🙏
So.. had some of these a few years ago, but they just kill everything and each other. Been wanting some more still though. I love them. I have a 20-long that only has a few fish in it. I'm thinking of relocating and getting some barbs.
@@jeffalbillar7625 They're stunning fish. I've kept them before, and they are a bit less nippy than Tigers. Only issue is that they have a taste for aquarium plants, so not a good choice if you have a planted tank. Tiger and Odessa barbs usually won't mess with plants.
setahuku tiger barb banyak ada di Sumatera, indonesia. Asalnya, saya sama sekali tidak tahu. terimakasih, membagi infirmasi; ikan ini menarik perhatianku.
Just found your channel.Kept fish, mainly oddballs and pred's for age'sbut have ot a fairly large community tank with 18 green and normal T. barbs and one thing i can say is you're never too old to learn,my shrimp are now extinct😂
Ive been taking care of my neighbors glo-barbs for over a year now, super energetic fish Sadly he always overfeeds and he treats them like most glow fish owners do. I try my best to keep up on the water changes, and ive been begging him to let me throw in some live plants
I started keeping tiger barbs in early 1980s while I was an undergrad. Your video is on point regarding how many to keep and what size tank to keep them in. I kept them with cory catfish a some years ago and all was well. Fast forward to now as I recently bought 3 corys and within 2 weeks the barbs began to harass the corys to a point where all 3 'disappeared'.☹ Right now I have 10 tigers, 3 black rubies, 2 juvenile albinos along with 4 zebra danios and a rainbow shark in a 55 gallon tank. They all get along fine. The tigers go at each other just a little bit every so often but nothing serious. Black rubies are active but non aggressive. The rainbow shark checks up the barbs when food is present>>>Otherwise he goes about his business 'supposedly' eating algae all around the tank. I'm debating on getting a cichlid since I hear that they know how to hold their own (or maybe I should leave things as they are..."if it ain't broke don't fix it!). Thanks for a great video.
I didn’t do research and I got a single albino one for a 20 gallon tank with two goldfish and ones an angle fin is it really gonna eat the fins😂 I made a mistake
I had a group of 12 tiger barbs in a 40 gallon and decided to add a large opaline gourami and they almost killed him in a day. Tiger barbs can be extremely aggressive
Recently my uncle bought me (his choice, not mine, big yikes ahead) 2 tiger barbs and 2 neon tetras into my 10 gallon tank which I planned for one betta. The store didn't want the fishes back even for free and I cannot find nobody who would take them. I have no more space in my house for a bigger tank. I am afraid to buy more fishes, because overcrowding ofc. I don't have a stomach to euthanize them. Do I have some option to make them feel better, or am I doomed to see them live in an incompatible tank? They seem to be doing fine, but I know this is not enough for them.
I've always loved these fish since I was a child. But i've never had the space to accomodate a tank large enough to house them. I doubt I ever will either. The sheer water weight of a 45-50 would break through the floor in ANY home i've lived in.
I have some tiger barbs in a 20 gallon, and have had so many issues with nipping, and now they are all just dying off. I’m so sad as I’m testing the water, keep the water at 74-76 . I was glad to hear these are NOT a beginner fish, I was under the impression that they were when I purchased them. Thought I was just hopeless as a fish keeper! I really like these little fish but will need to get some more experience before restocking.
I had a great tank of barbs I had the green ones and the gold ones and also snakeskin one and more but my dumba$$ decided to change the gravel and I think I didn’t clean it good so yeah they didn’t survive :(((((((
I honestly think it's poor breeding from the farms that has lead to Tiger Barbs being fin nipping maniacs, which they weren't decades ago when I first got in the hobby. I got the school of 10 I currently have from a local breeder who made that same claim and honestly, my tiger barbs look better than any I've seen elsewhere and I see ZERO aggression from them (also haven't had a single one die in over a year having them). Even amongst themselves there is so much less jostling and chasing than I've ever seen in tiger barbs before. Perfectly calm fish.
I have a large Eltric cray fish U think they will be ok together Trying to find somthing to go with my cray fish He seems to be a great hunter 😂 Mollys we’re food so I’m thinking somthing with speed Like danios
I’ve got odessa barbs and they are one of my favorite fish now! Fun story I got them because I went to sell one of my african cichlid that was just to aggressive with my other Peacocks and I was looking for mid size fish for my comunity tank and all they had was odessa barbs and red line torpedo barbs. I decided to go with the Odessa because they were cheap enough that I was able to buy 12 of them (11 males 1 female) and that my in store credit would make me have to pay only 15$ so they were more the buget option but when I got them in my tank they almost instantly became my favorite fish! They were really nice with my 2 b’ack angels and my 10 zebra danios and they REALLY colored up and I have now 26 of them since they bred and I’ve given some to friends and family. All in all great great fish that you can have a LOT of interaction with and that is not aggressive at all!
I somehow got away with a 75 gal tank full of 8 tiger barbs 6 giant danios 5 black kuhli loaches a rainbow shark and an opaline gouramia and literally no one ever picks on each other. I do want to overkill with the filter and get more tiger barbs though.
@Ivan Salazar you can have as many as you like. After all it is YOUR tank . I wouldn't recommend that many though for such a small volume of water. I would be more concerned about the filtration and using media/decor that benefits the beneficial bacteria.

How big is your tank? I want to do the same with a 90 gallon. Wondering how many of each color would work. Thx.
@@Sammiejomitchell it was a 90 gallon corner tank, actually. Juwel Trigon 350.
That was his 800 gallon! It was a cool tank.
They wouldn't care about snails, and the crayfish will either eat them or get its antennae nipped off
I have three of them and they do great. They live with a shark and three other small fish. I don’t know what they are but yeah, they’re cool fish
Can you mix green with the normal colour barbs
Sure!
Orange glo barbs are my favourite!
Will tiger barb be OK growing out with my smaller jack Dempsey and my small oscar and small green texas
Probably - as long as they aren’t small enough to eat.
@PrimeTimeAquatics all my south American cichlids are to small to eat them
Green Tiger Barbs are my favorite 😁
Jason I love tiger barbs will always keep them I get conflicting info as usual with any fish, what are the proper parameters for them as far as ph, I don’t chase ph but to thrive , what would be that sweet spot in ur experience for them ?
Probably somewhere in the upper 6s.
Dear jason.
pls suggest me if i use ehem uv isterlizer 500 in my 75 gallon tangalyika cichlids aquarium.after that any other king of filter is required or not ?
if required suggest me which one ?
I don't use UV unless there is a specific parasite that will be destroyed by UV. I might go with the Seachem Tidal 110.
Love the barbs. Great fish, great temperament.
@primetimeaquatics would it be ok to keep pea puffers and tiger barbs in one tank
I have 6 Tigers, Electric Blue Acara, 7 Green Cory and a Bristlenose..in a 40 breeder..
If I put 6 more Barbs in there, would that overcrowd?
That might work. Tiger barbs can be a little rough on one another in that size tank though.
Canister filters with lots of fine pore sponge and filter floss!
Jason I always have tigerbarbs I love them fav fish
Can a group of 12 barbs be mixed and be fine or should they all be the same kind of barb? I really like the green but would like to have tiger too. Or is that a bad idea?
It’s probably better if they are the same type.
I had handful of them and kept them with firemouth and jewel cichlids.
I only have two I'm thirteen will they be fine in my 20 gallon with 2 zebra Danios 4 bronze corydoras and feeder guppies for a few months until I can get a job so I can buy more.
Hopefully they will be ok for a while. Have fun!
My wife asking me why I'm getting a new 55 gallon tank. Me telling her Jason from prime time aquatics told me I need tiger barbs
Great - you’re going to get me in trouble. Haha
I currently only have two
Love the breeding info
hi i have these 40 tiger barbs, do you think i can add 8 rainbowfish? will they be okay together
In a 4ft tank or large it should be fine.
Hello Jason, I have tried to breed tiger barbs before, but the eggs got fungus.
I am going to use methylene blue now. Jason should I put it before or after the the spawning? Thanks
I would add it after you have the eggs. Good luck!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Jason thank you very much for your help 🙏 I have learned much from your videos. Very decent and well educated gentlemen.
What are the white fish with yellow fins called the look like a cichlid but I can't tell what kind. They look really nice
I believe that was an albino kribensis?
I have 1 gourami and 1 zebra loach in a 40 gallon breeder how many tiger barbs should I put in it and should I put any other fish in it?
I would add at least 15.
Stocking wise it's probably ok.
I have a 90 gallon I want to do in all the different colors of tiger barbs. About how many with 5 corys?
At least 10 each?
Thank you for the video!
Could u keep with Chindingo Saulosi
It might work
Can we keep hillstream loaches with tiger barbs?
Probably will work ok
Wow these are so beautiful. 😍😍
Sir I don't know if you're aware but @lady metalhead is requesting video footage of tiger barbs to do a Memorial video for the Late Mr. T. Bones. Maybe you could email her some of your b roll of these beautiful tiger barbs. Thank you Sir. 🙏🙏🙏
Can u Put the green tiger barb in the same tank as tiger barbs? Also great video! keep up the good work.
I'm not sure they will school together, but having two sizable groups in the same tank could work.
Yes you can and they do School together i have 6 standard and 6 green in my tank👍
Should Widow Tetra (Black Skirt Tetra) be a compatible tankmate for Tigers ?
If you have at least a 4ft tank it increases the likelihood that they get along.
So.. had some of these a few years ago, but they just kill everything and each other. Been wanting some more still though. I love them. I have a 20-long that only has a few fish in it. I'm thinking of relocating and getting some barbs.
You might be better off with the snakeskin barb in a 20 long?
Good, more peaceful, alternatives to tiger barbs are black ruby barbs and odessa barbs. These are just as beautiful and in general don´t fin nip.
I've been looking for Black Ruby Barbs for a long time.
I don't think that I have ever seen any.
Hopefully I'll find some
@@jeffalbillar7625 They're stunning fish.
One of the funnest fish I've had to watch feed. Fed ghost shrimp and they'll hunt them in pack.
Where can I get those breeding mops?
There are videos on how to make them yourself!
Just found your channel.Kept fish, mainly oddballs and pred's for age'sbut have ot a fairly large community tank with 18 green and normal T. barbs and one thing i can say is you're never too old to learn,my shrimp are now extinct😂
Ive been taking care of my neighbors glo-barbs for over a year now, super energetic fish
Sadly he always overfeeds and he treats them like most glow fish owners do.
Ya, when things are balanced I hate messing with it. 😀
Nice tank
I didn’t do research and I got a single albino one for a 20 gallon tank with two goldfish and ones an angle fin is it really gonna eat the fins😂 I made a mistake
I remember having them with glass fish and they did fine together
Happy Friday 😁👍

Thank you!
I had a group of 12 tiger barbs in a 40 gallon and decided to add a large opaline gourami and they almost killed him in a day. Tiger barbs can be extremely aggressive
What’s a spawning mop and what’s in it?
Basically just yarn in the shape of a mop. There’s a bunch of videos on RUclips on how to make them!
How many barbs can I put in a 20 gal tank? I see you are saying no for 20 gal :(
If you like barbs you could do cherry barbs in a 20 gallon? They have insane color!
Just keep your eyes open for someone who has a larger tank. For now just do the best you can.
My next red belly piranha tank I plan to add them , can’t with the RB’s I have now they would eat them
I've always loved these fish since I was a child. But i've never had the space to accomodate a tank large enough to house them. I doubt I ever will either. The sheer water weight of a 45-50 would break through the floor in ANY home i've lived in.
I have a baby Oscar with a couple of severums in a 125 gallon. Could I put some tiger barbs with them?? My Oscar is the concern
They could go missing as the Oscar grows.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics are there any good dither fish for Oscars besides silver dollars?
So helpful
I have some tiger barbs in a 20 gallon, and have had so many issues with nipping, and now they are all just dying off. I’m so sad as I’m testing the water, keep the water at 74-76 . I was glad to hear these are NOT a beginner fish, I was under the impression that they were when I purchased them. Thought I was just hopeless as a fish keeper! I really like these little fish but will need to get some more experience before restocking.
does anyone know any good 2.5 - 4 inch shoaling fish that wont nip a gold gouramis feelers
Brilliant Green Rasbora!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics they are awesome but hard to find in my area
Whats the ideal ph and temp for breeding?
Upper 6s work with temps in the mid 70s.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you 🙏
I had a great tank of barbs I had the green ones and the gold ones and also snakeskin one and more but my dumba$$ decided to change the gravel and I think I didn’t clean it good so yeah they didn’t survive :(((((((
I honestly think it's poor breeding from the farms that has lead to Tiger Barbs being fin nipping maniacs, which they weren't decades ago when I first got in the hobby.
I have a large Eltric cray fish
U think they will be ok together
Trying to find somthing to go with my cray fish
He seems to be a great hunter 😂
Mollys we’re food so I’m thinking somthing with speed
Like danios
He’s probably snag the barbs too.
Fairly certain couple of my T barbs nip my corydoras dorsal fins
That wouldn’t surprise me.
Good morning 💚💛💙
I keep mine with a large school of Cardinal Tetras. They act like they're not there.
Nice
one of my dream aquariums is a 75 gallon with 65 tiger barbs and a red tail shark
@Ivan Salazar you can have as many as you like. After all it is YOUR tank . I wouldn't recommend that many though for such a small volume of water. I would be more concerned about the filtration and using media/decor that benefits the beneficial bacteria.
@Ivan Salazar in a tank with a good canister filter, some pothos and 40 percent weekly water changes i dont see why not
Fish from Indonesia 👍
Tiger Barbs, area buitiful fish. But no matter what they have there problem's being as some other barbs. Nipping fins.
tiger barbs have ADHD
