4:00 just a little piece of advice for anyone who doesn't already know this. If you have an emergency but your phone is reading out as having no signal try dialing whatever your country's emergency number is. In most countries if there is a signal from any provider it will carry over an emergency call even if you aren't covered by them.
An example for this is as a US citizen I'm going to use my country as an example. If I was out somewhere and had an emergency and I needed to dial 911 (which is the US's emergency number) just because Verizon doesn't have coverage in that area doesn't mean T-Mobile doesn't. If they did though and I were to dial that emergency number my Verizon phone would still send my emergency call over that other provider's signal.

I thought this was common knowledge that 911 works even if you're in roaming and phones also can still dial 911 even if the screen is locked (also as long as it has a dial tone land lines can dial 911 even if you have no service on that line.) However this assumes that you even have a signal at all, seeing no signal doesn't mean that you're out of your coverage area (that would be roaming) it means you're out of range of a cell tower period.

What I think is interesting too about its skull/jaw shape, is it looks very similar to a rodents. Rodents do have a good pair of chompers (and I agree it's probably a chimera experiment), if perhaps rodent genes were a big factor, along with human and maybe something reptilian (arm spikes), that could also change the teeth from the natural square shape to the more predator like points. Rats also have the same digitigrade leg structure, can stand on two legs or four, and have lil hands similar to humans.
Defiantly a cool design for a monster

Or maybe like frog DNA instead of reptile, because one kind of frog breaks its own bone to make defensive spikes and rats and other rodents can stand on they're back legs and with the frog DNA (if I'm right) it would have long-ish legs and with its rodent DNA it would have the slight bipedalism. And also rats can get crazy aggressive I've seen a video where a person who owns chickens say a rat or rats have been killing his chickens, giving the animals aggressive predatory nature

Nosalis are of course moles or shrews mutated with aid of the high radiation (and maybe experimental superweapons) in Moscow. One of my favorite movie moments is the Brendan Fraser Mummy movie, when Rick O'Connell sees the mummy walking around for the first time. Imhotep roars to scare him. Rick roars right back at him and blasts him in the belly with his shotgun and runs.
These folks should have gone full Rick O'Connell on the creature and fought it. Hell hath no fury like a scared human in full level 10 "kill the thing" mode.
You got boards. You got hammers. You got nails. Make a spikey nail board and kill it. Kill it a lot.
Beat the thing into the floorboards till there's nothing left of it but chunky salsa. Then beat it some more.
Kill the hell out of it. Go to war.
Make weapons and show it how we got to be on top of the food chain.
And as for the army dealing with it, send in the tanks. Drive them into the house. Then drop bombs on the house until the crater is so deep you can see hell.

Later the game it gets to a point where things can break through barricades so easily the only reason you set any up is to try and direct them over to the unlocked door that you have your shotgun pointed at.

Like how ours connects from the bottom and we have our skull sitting on it and have our ears on the sides, while other animals, such as cows, cats, or dogs, have their ears on top of their heads.

    • @austinhinton3944

Considering that the military bag has literally no other purpose in the film, that thing was definitely made in a lab. This is either being used as testing grounds for them or they escaped and they want to cover it up without making a major scene. If they just wanted to kill them, they'd just drop a platoon of men armed to the teeth and it'd be done with, but that obviously didn't happen and there's a reason for that. So I'm assuming testing grounds.
Going further the creatures test fortifications for defenses, are pack hunters, know how to recognize and set traps, have been shown to shepherd people into a trapped location for easier picking and then going as far to keep them there, when one tries to escape, they focus on them, even when there is far more obvious prey. They even understand radios. This all screams military weapon. No animal is that smart naturally, and I saw no proof of it being from space.
Good movie. The people were fucking stupid at times, the biggest act of stupidity was that not one of them brought a gun, when anyone intelligent would at least have two of the group bring one each. If not more even for safety against normal creatures. But the fact they thought 'heavy' equals slow was the second largest fuck up and the third was the fact they never tried to just kill the thing with sticks, I mean they hurt each other well enough with just the shit in that house, and it's obviously flammable. Hell blind the thing with the powerful flashlight and bash it to death in an inclosed room. Or do so through a wall it's busting through. And for damn sake, wait until daybreak to do shit. Hide in one room if necessary, with all that you'll need, but the fact none of them thought to wait till at least morning for better viewing makes me want to bash my head against a wall. Also STOP standing in front of windows, holy hell was that dumb, like they were begging it to grab them through them.

You do know that not everyone owns a gun right (and I'm not just talking about places where it's illegal, plenty of Americans don't either)? I mean millions of people go camping in the states every month without much in the way of defense. If anything the fact that they actually had bear spray was surprisingly realistic because most movies like this wouldn't even have the campers bring that, so having MULTIPLE firearms is pretty unrealistic unless you're going hunting or going into an area that you know is dangerous.
Regardless agreed that this is almost certainly a test since there's evidence of multiple groups taking up defense in the house with it being implied that nobody has ever come despite at least two calls being made and probably more. There is the possible alternative that there is a large population of these things and the military is trying to gauge how many there are and how they operate before risking soldiers lives in an extermination mission but that seems to be a bit of a stretch since with the tech we have and just wrapping the area in a cordon any reasonably skilled military unit could exterminate them. So almost certainly a test. That said considering how easily a trained group of soldiers could kill them you have to wonder how useful they'd actually be outside of tests with basic civilians, I mean you could say that's the point of the test to refine them but at the same time if you refine them to the point they can outsmart soldiers then that just seems like...a bad idea.

I think this is a military experiment that got loose, probably very recently explaining why the military haven't being that much present. Or...bare with me for that theory:
Project Chimera, escaped from the lab and into a forest in Connecticut. They send a squad of marines with the instruction to capture the prototype alive as much as possible, but since this is a very top secret project on a "need to know" basis, the project leads failed to mention that they were two creatures: two mates. So the marines went in expecting one creature, but got jumped by the second. Since they had orders to take it alive, they didn't have their guns ready fast enough. So the squad, probably less than a dozen, got slaughtered.
After that, it could be that either it just happen so the military was still in the process to scramble another squad (or two), or they decided to hold back a little to observe the prototypes as they lurk and hunt in nature.

If you want to find an urban legend close to this, look up the Kentucky Goblins. That was an alien urban legend though, and I think this may be a creature that escaped. Also Roanoke FYI as someone who grew up in Connecticut, there's also a huge navy presence in Groton CT where they make submarines.
It's possible that the movie makers didn't quite understand army divisions or specialties but were trying to work this creature into the cold war era and here's why. The Marines are the soldiers of the navy, they aren't more powerful or less powerful than a similarly built, trained and educated army soldier. Our culture glorifies soldiers and war, and for some reason the Marines are seen as more powerful even though they're equal to the US Army. It's not just the TV show NCIS at fault for this either, there was an old Tom Lehrer song "Send the Marines" from the cold war era as well as the punchline of a song from the late 50s called "the battle of Camp Kookamunga." For some reason America really loves it's marines. From the lyrics it sounds like this particular division of the armed forces had an elevated status even as far back as the cold war.
If they wanted to be more accurate, or were more accurate, the movie's creators likely would have put the air force as just a quick wiki search for military bases in Connecticut yielded a shut down air force base located in East Hartford. See Rentschler Field. It was originally a military air field during world war 2 but was turned back over to civilians afterwards. It then became a helipad for a few years before being turned into a Football stadium. Looking at the map of CT there's more or less a world war 2 military presence in six out of 8 counties in CT, but three in hartford county. Rentschler, Bradley and Brainard are the three nearest to hartford and all in close proximity to each other.
This is all cursory information found in less than 10 minutes of researching the topic and on one extremely popular website. B movies don't need all that much research and I suspect that by doing this they were attempting to connect the monster here to cold war experimentation and that era of science fiction. That's the same era that gave us the Hulk and the Fantastic Four. All heroes that were mutated by radiation. Add in the sheer number of sci fi movies that center around either radiation creating monsters or cold war experimentation gone wrong and I suspect that the creators of this movie were trying to use location and items found at the beginning to tell us a trope. Not even a story, a trope, about what this monster is and where it could have come from.

I stand by my conclusion, this movie was set too far from the ocean to use an abandoned marine gearpack as a prop and the marines are too specialized to be doing this particular kind of R+D. Cold war bioweapons would have been done by the army.
As for distance from the ocean, I lived in CT. I grew up there and moved to Berkshire County MA about a decade ago. It takes about an hour and a half to drive from the southernmost point to the northernmost. Assuming you were going up I-91 the primary north south artery. If you take the back roads you could take all afternoon to cross the state. I don't think the Navy would have had marines training or operating so far from the ocean. If they wanted to be accurate, it would have been an old air force pack from the cold war or a US army pack from the modern era. In the modern day DARPA assumes responsibility for most weapon and gear R+D. But they're relatively recent. I don't see why the marines were in that forest or handling a black project to do with a monster in the first place.

I find it weird how many people think you can not get a signal in the woods. You may walk out of it but the trailheads of most places have cell signal. Also, they have GPS that works without signal and there are apps that will at least allow a person to get a straight line back to the trailhead even with no signal. Oh and now they have a flashlight and camera, and compass, and star watching apps, and if you can get internet you can even try to identify plants and animals.

Fun story, my friends old house was close by a popular hiking trail. The property line was well marked with no trespassing signs. He had a shooting range on his property. Listen to signs, because you could end up down range. It happened about once a summer, and the people trespassing would always act upset, and threaten to call the cops. Which resulted in them being escorted to the property line, or in one big mouthed woman's case, arrest. Long story short, read the signs people.

I have a theory that these creatures are descendants of flightless bats. They have dark skin similar to bats and their muscular bodies, which were once used for flight, have evolved for running. This can especially seen in the arms (kinda like the night stalkers from After Man). As they evolved to have a more terrestrial lifestyle, they would leave their insectivorous roots to feed on larger prey and thus also become larger.
I also believe that the great respiratory system the bat has allowed these creatures to fuel a more intelligent brain. This lead to them being able to hunt in packs, communicate, and make traps. The reason they do not have large bat ears is because they no longer need echolocation. They also have small eyes which many cave dwelling species also have. Thus, I believe these creatures are never left the caves. Ok anyways I’m a massive nerd so I’m just theorizing

    • @fioafionawright8604
      @fioafionawright8604 2 года назад +11

Why would they no longer need echolocation? It’s a product of hunting in low light not flying, and if they’d given up flight and the ability to “see” well in the dark what would they have eaten and how? Surely a specialised lightweight skeleton is not the best place to begin in terms or becoming a large terrestrial predator , idk not tryna hate just seems like a really wild jump 😂

Finally someone covers this thing. It's really not given much in the film, which is both frustrating and cool at the same time.
I think there's a good point to be made that the military is in on this, particularly when it comes to receiving aid for distress calls. If park rangers or authorities went to help but never returned, there would just be more sent to investigate, especially for cops or paramedics. That would inevitably lead to an investigation. Since that hasn't happened, it seems likely the military is preventing access by first responders or park rangers because they know what's running around in there. The backpack from the military personnel is just another hint that something is up.
This thing was definitely made in a lab. It's too intelligent, unless it's been around humans and hunted them for a very long time.

The humans just hid and ran like animals, and so the predators got them. Storylines good could have used a bigger budget

Say maybe these creatures can also possibly burrow to hide during the day, giving that their claws are large enough to do so, and with their great senses they could navigate burrows rather well. And then with that added om top with their intelligence, they would definitely use that skill to their advantage, especially for navigation to certain areas without being noticed.

Certain details the Animal's anatomy make me think it's meant to be descended from dromaeosaurs. Consider the digitigrade legs, teeth orientation suggesting the process of evolving towards or away from a beak, and 'quills' & 'fur' as different forms of protofeathers. The entire concept might be intended as an update of Dale Russel's Dinosauroids
