I love your videos! I've watched at least 8 today trying to decide what to buy!
Another great video, Alex, thanks! I’m a big Kala fan and appreciate you showing their range. Very helpful.
Your videos are very informative and helpful! Thank you.
🤗
What a fantastic video. Thank you
Thanks 😊
Love 'em all! My first uke was a Kala KA-T about four years ago. Since then I must have bought over 20 ukes, many different makes and prices but the three I have kept are all Kala tenors. My fave is the ATP-CTG. I think I may now have to add the baritone version.
I picked up a Kala ABP-CTG (Baritone solid cedar top) a few years ago, my 2nd uke. Absolutely love this thing. If you're used to guitar with a low bottom string and like the feel of softer strings, you probably will as well. Fingerstyle and strumming sound great. Open tuners which hold tuning really well, so who cares. Mine has a pickup under the saddle allowing rocking with amps for something like 16 hours from a charge, which is a whole different kind of fun. This is still my "go to" in front of the computer, which is what I'm doing (playing guns and roses) as I found this video.

I bpught a Kala-BFT Bocote Butterfly Limited Edition from you last week. It sounds nothing like the ones you demonstrated in this video plus the second and third frets are dull when fretting the e string. I am very dissapointed to say the least.
Have you contacted us directly about a return? you are absolutely entitled to return it if you are unhappy and we wouldn't want someone paired up with an instrument they had immediately felt dissatisfied with.
Please call Rob tomorrow on 01202 430820 or email us at alex@ukulele.co.uk and we will get in touch with you to discuss your imminent return. I am replying on a Sunday Evening from home so can't be immediately helpful in establishing much about your order.
These videos are not coloured in anyway, there is no trickery to how we edit the audio so if you don't think something is up to that standard then we don't want you living with it begrudgingly. The videos are there to help - I am sorry this didn't work out quite that way.

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Thanks Alex.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore Thanks for your concern. The dull areas are ok now. I had left the ukulele in a warm place and I am convinced this had something to do with the dullness. Since moving it to a cooler room it has been fine.
Many thanks for your response.
Great, enjoy.
Thank you so much,Alex, for this video. I liked the baritones because it sounds warmer but I couldn t find the price. Can you help me with SMHB and SA-B ? Thank you, again!
I have a Kala Makala Baritone. I was impressed by the sustain and sound it has and it's factory setup.
It actually sounds as good as my solid mahogany top Baritone. Plus having it setup with a nice low playable action was either great luck or a nice feature but good action is important, especially for beginners to prevent discouragment.
Enjoyed watching the video. As a guitarist, I always prefer the baritone. I just can’t get used to that lower string tuned HIGHER ... it’s like playing on a banjo 😎
Low G tuning is thr Key.
I'm rocking a brand new KALA SMH"C"
And cheers to you from montréal canada
Great stuff 👍
Thanks for watching.
Nice
My next ukulele purchase will be the Kala with cedar top 😍
Cochon d'Inde Herd Heng fine choice!
Kala is great if ur good but don't have alot of cash. Good action. I've played 23 yrs. Kala KA-T plays beautifully. The particular instrument I have was 350 with hard case. I would compare it to a martin guitar. No bullshit.
I Love Kala just got a sweet Cedar Top Tenor with Ziracote Back. I really enjoy your videos I keep a KA-C around for a Travel Uke. I'm thinking best Value in the Kala Line is the Spruce Top. Interested in if all the Laminates sound alike with the Aquila Strings (Same strings)
JodyM2 I have found the gloss laminates to be much thicker built and heavier than the satins... this comes across in the sound when I play them and hopefully comes across in the video
Noice
I like ukuleles with rope binding, could you recommend a nice sounding one that won't brake the bank - i Also really like the kala ziricote - which would you recommend of the two
You should check out the Kala Bocote Ukulele - the KA-BFT. It looks similar to the zirocote series but has rope binding.
Also an Ohana TK-28 would be around the same price but might be harder to find.
Have you reviewed the Kala KA-SA-T tenor? I am considering either that or the Cordoba 35T. Interested in your thoughts?
I actually reviewed the SA-T today in a Facebook live post on the Southern Ukulele Store page. There are also a few videos on our store listing of the KA-SA-T for this uke.
We stopped doing Cordoba last year for a variety of reasons but Kalas are very consistent.
Oh all of these which would you say is the one with the deepest most bass sound?
I've been told Kala Ukes have a narrower than usual nut width, is this correct? I liked the zirocte
Not really... about half the Tenors out there are 35mm. Some brands are larger though. Like Islander, Córdoba or the Hawaiian K brands.
I'm sorry if it has already been said, but is the ziricote one with a laminated body/top or solid?
Laminate 😊
Where is your shop based? and do you have any shops in the North West?
We are in Bournemouth. Mainland UK shipping is free but no showroom closer to you.
I can also recommend a friend's shop called World of Ukes based in Carlisle if you want a shop you can visit at your end of the country.
Between these two Baritones, KA-SA-B (Acacia) vs. KA-ABP-CTG (Cedar/Acacia) which would you say is better?
They are definitely the same quality so it doesn't really work to say one is better... The SA-B is more mellow and sweeter and the abp-ctg is punchier.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore you’ve always responded so quickly. Thank you for your response!
It's all good Happy New Year
@@SouthernUkuleleStore same to you!
I wish he played higher on the neck. Kala played wonderfully clear higher up. No buzzing. Beautifully clear.
Great video. Just my personal preference, but I don't care for the walnut fretboards. Wonder if Kala will go back to rosewood since the Cities restrictions have been lifted for musical instruments...
They have abandoned walnut in favour of laurel and Pao ferro on most models already... In interested to see what comes next too.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore Glad to hear that... Pao ferro is a very pretty, darker wood. Thanks!
Hi this ziricote tenor but baritone size is a solid ukulele or laminated? I'm really interested in this ukulele and i whould like to know before buy it,thanks !!
This series is laminate 👍
Southern Ukulele Store thanks !! Do you recomend me?
I would go for the ABP-CTG or the SMHB. The ziricote baritone sounds fine but a bit flat.
I tried a couple of Kala ukes and the action was too high for this beginner; so I sent em' back to amazon. I wanted to like Kala ... the company is based in Nor Cal and I lived on the northern CA coast for a couple of years going to college.
The issue there is that you got it from Amazon. Every good instrument requires a bit of a tweak and you don't get that from a box style retailer... I'm not anti Amazon but in this instance you should definitely blame Amazon and not Kala.
Note; actually Kala are partly to blame for selling via Amazon in the US. 😉
Thanks for watching 😊
Amazon has no issue with returns of tested Ukulele?
Could you please do a detailed comparison of the Kala Zircote Tenor Ukulele and the Kala Zircote Baritone Ukulele back-to-back? Thank you!
No. Sorry.
That's not a model we've stocked for years.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore Thank you for the reply. Is there a reason you haven't stocked the Kala Ziricotes for years?
They are an expensive laminate uke. Also the spec changed so they don't have the sap wood anymore.
@@SouthernUkuleleStore I am new to the uke, & I bought the Kala Zircote tenor uke a few months back because after listening to many laminate & wood tenors, I think the tenor sounds nice and richer than many other tenor ukes. Mine doesn't have the sapwood & personally I think I like the look better without it. I'd like to try out a baritone uke & I am thinking about getting & sticking with the Kala Zircote model. But, I am curious to hear the sound of the Zircote Baritone back to back compared to the Zircote tenor. I guess I may just have to buy it & find out. However, I am debating on getting a different brand/model baritone instead. Do you have any overall favorite baritones in the under $300 range?
I recommend checking out the most recent video on the channel from last week as it covers this exact subject
KA-BG, KA-SBG and KA-ZCT-B. Which one is best, not factoring in price?
The KA-SBG. It's the only one with a solid top and I think from new it's the best sounding.
KA-BG or KA-BEM?
KA-BG
@@SouthernUkuleleStore thanks for the quick response!! what’s better about the BG? Sound? Durability?
I just find people don't like the look of the Exotic mahogany series in the flesh whereas the BG with it's gloss finish just feels like a more considered purchase even though they are both laminates... The KA-BEM sounds fine but the KA-BG has more poise and definition to my ear

😅
@@SouthernUkuleleStore ya know i'm just joking man, i adore your vids :) used them to help make my decision to buy my Kala solid acacia baritone!!
@@roflmows I thought it was funny... I've started each link with 'ok' for so long that I'm unable to start any other way haha
Is the video reversed or is he a lefty?
I'm left handed playing right handed instruments upside down
Oh ok cool
I have a ka-eby-te
Cool
I recently bought the Kala Ka-eby-te. I have found it to sound distorted when I'm strumming. I noticed when recording the Uke into my Daw, even with the gain turned down it sounds really distorted. Not sure why this is? Its got the original strings and the action looks OK.
Any help on why it's distorting would be much appreciated.
Have you changed the battery recently? If the sound is only happening when you are plugged in then that is more than likely the problem.
If you have tried a new battery then the cables inside may have moved a tiny bit and may be creating an Earth him or a clipping noise. If you fish around and move the cables inside the instrument slightly with your finger and then try plugging it in, that could also potentially fix the problem.
The E string sounds distorted even when it's not plugged in. ruclips.net/video/LUf5y7ltXsM/видео.html
I have taken the batterys out once or twice however not sure that would be able to move the wires inside the Uke? ruclips.net/video/7TjCICxKw1w/видео.html
Love my solid mahog uke its not a kala
Cool, what is it?
