Just want to say how much I appreciate how much work it takes to create these videos considering you have to research all the options, buy and test products, build the set up, and film the video... Lots of dedicated time!
This made my morning Eric. Thank you so much! These videos take an insane amount of time for reasons you've mentioned. Feels good to know someone gets it! Now on to the next one!
@@dslrvideoshooter I built my all-in-one rolling camera/light/mic set up based on one your videos in this series and it has been the number one time/space saver of my 15 years of filmmaking so I'll forever be in your debt for that!
@@itsmickeyyoung I can't post links in the comments or else they get flagged as spam but if you go onto Caleb's videos and look up "full RUclips studio on a single stand" it'll pop up. I love mine so much. Saves me hours of set up and breakdown every time I film.
You are THE GOAT when it comes to presenting innovative ideas that consider your audience's needs, level of complexity, and budget. Zero fluff in this video with amazing pacing, imagery, and information (those comparisons were gold). Seriously.... 10/10, Caleb!
Do I need a video desk setup? No. Do I need more Caleb Pike videos on video desk set ups? ABSOLUTELY! Great to have you back Caleb - love your content!
You're a real inspiration Caleb, I continuously learn so much from you. By checking all item alternatives and brainstorming, you save lots of people from overspending and lead them into better, cheaper setups, so thank you at least on my behalf. I've never done any video work before. Still, I'm building a homestudio for my wife mostly thanks to your videos. Two days ago, I bought our first light, a 150W CoB light. Then I remembered in your diffusion video, you mentioned closer you're to light, softer the light becomes. Then I rewatched your ultimate video studio again and confirmed your Light Dome II is right next to your table, only 10-15 cm difference. I thought to myself, what if I mount a softbox to the table with these new table clamp mounts and searched all over the internet and nobody has done it. I thought of commenting and asking under your ultimate video studio link(since you would be only one that's crazy enough to try this) but after seeing more than 1 thousand comments I said noway you'll see it :b But 1 day after this, you publish a video where you mount a softbox on a desk :D. So, I'm writing this comment. Thank you very much again. And a question if you ever read this meaninglessly long comment, do you think if I can mount a CoB light and a softbox instead of the led mat or would it be too bulky for the mount and table width?
Thank you for doing what you do, you know that your audience has a ton of sources on electronic devices, what we often don't have is a life saver like you when it comes to finding a decent desk or a nifty support solution
Amazing video Caleb! So useful for many RUclipsrs! 👊😎 Bonus tip. If you own the original M50 which don't have clean HDMI and want to live stream you can press the info-button until the screen is clean from any information. Now only the auto focus box is shown. To get rid of it, switch to manual settings and refocus. Done! 😀
For the $13 device, if one pulls up the "Configure Video" Properties dialog in OBS there are adjustments for Brightness, contrast Hue and Saturation controls that allow me to fine tune the video without having to make adjustments in camera. I've been using it for almost a year now with no regrets.
just want to say thank you for all these video desk setup videos. Like previous comments mentioned, these videos take a LOT of work. Thank you for your content.
Wow, so impressed with this setup. Results are amazing! Also, I just love that you do these kinds of videos. To have someone put together this type of setup and show how it all works is a huge shortcut / hack. I have many of the components already and can easily imagine putting this together with my existing gear!
youre the reason i want to live, Caleb! Youre videos just make my every next day worth living!! Youre so awesome. while i just finished one desk setup i see this new video ha ha ha so cool!!
For the 15$ capture card you just should change the Video Range to Full and you'll get the same picture as you have from CamLink. Unfortunately the OBS sets Partial Video Range by default for this card. But fortunately you can change it manually if you press the small gear.
Love the comments section as you can get SOOOOOOO MUCH insight when it comes to the nuts and bolts on gear /hardware/ software. This is the solution I was looking for, as I own that popular $15 Capture card. Will be trying it today :) thanks
Wow! A lot of cool things, but a side note is I loved the shot near the end where you turn off the light and get up from the desk. It really made the "story" look/feel real!😃
Hi Caleb. It’s my first comment here. Hope you read it. 1. I own a Canon M50 and EF-M 22 f/2. Great budget combo. When I use it with EOS Webcam Utility, I get 720p resolution. So if anybody gets the camera might use 720p resolution. 2. FetHead is a great tool, but quite expensive. There is an alternative that works great, especially for cheap microphones, it’s called Klark Teknik CT1. I own it and it’s great.
Just want to thank you for the fantastic guides and reviews! I'm a photographer with no video experience and have learned a ton! Right now I'm just looking to up my game for Teams video calls in my home office, so your lighting suggestions have been super helpful. I'm going to start with one of these panels and integrate it with a small softbox.
That Behringer Xm8500 carried me for years! It so solid for the price. Especially for 16 year old minimum wage me who needed multiple mics, it's just such a good value. Also Klark has a fethead alternative for $30 for a more reasonable setup.
Best channel I've ever found here on youtube about this topic, thank you so much! I would like to ask you to make a video about the table setup for those who need to show the table during the video, this changes the setup a bit because the camera needs a mini tripod and is below the monitor, and the camera lens needs to be perfect to be able to get the table and the person, the size of the table also here at home I got it with 80cm and 90cm deep tables... That's it, just an idea because I'm looking for a kit of this type to show the table and the person. myself doing tarot readings for example. Good morning and keep up your wonderful work.

OMYGOODNESS your Audio Quality in this video is AWESOME!!!! Im sitting here saying to myself, "Is He Using The Same Mic That Is Connected To The Table?" Sounds GREAT!
I've seen and enjoyed a number of your videos, but this one is remarkable. Perfect explanations, remarkable gear selection. All well thought out. Great job. Subscribed.
Very interesting setup...well done. Btw, i love the sound of ur videos....The best! Thanks for sharing the great stuff and i wish u the best. See u in the next video😁😃
This video is amazing. Gives us everything we need. I Have a monitor and a Notebook, I'm debating myself if I put the camera between the note and the monitor and have to move it everytime to record so its not in front of the monitor on a normal day oooor the cam above the screen and look slightly up while talking
You have no idea how helpful this is (or maybe you do - 😉) The short summary of pros and cons of some of these items is the perfect springboard for my own research into what I'll eventually be going for; (the different lenses and their comparisons was particularly useful). Thank you.
I appreciate you, Mr. Pike. I'm going to build a version that is a combination of this desk and the Ultimate Video Studio Desk. I like some of the options you have chosen on this desk, some on the other.
To save money on that fethead simply purchase the cb 1 mic booster which sells for about 20 bucks, I have the exact mic setup and that booster works very well and it's heavy duty, which is amazing since that Mic can be used as a weapon as well.
Well with i had seen this before dropping 20k following your other desk build lol (wish I was kidding) but that said thank you so much, having just got into video production your vids have helped me a ton and i literally built almost an exact replica of your ultimate desk (i went cheap on cable management but upgraded my cam to a7siii and using sony zv-1 as my overhead its pretty sweet) anyway thanks again your videos are literally THE BEST and mostly least bias i have seen out there.
I loved that you used the M50 for that. When I used the Viltrox speedbooster attached to a canon 85mm f1.8 with the M50 I got some amazing footage out of this camera.
It needs a ton of research and hard work to come up with something like this, thanks for the simple and superb set up, small time film makers like me really needs useful information like this. Appreciate it a lot.
Placing the mat light in that softbox is an awesome trick! I wonder if there's a way to replicate that with an LED Panel? Unfortunately, these mat lights are tough to find on a budget and the diffusors for LED panels seem very small
Excellent video! I would like to know how to expand on this by adding an over head camera to incorporate video for product and unboxing scenes. Thank you for the wonderful education.
Careful when using the CamLink for video only and OBS... The audio is waaay off (+1500ms). At least for me... My audio is plugged directly into my computer and not into my camera.
Thanks for the info was very useful but I have a doubt about how do you calibrate the temperature of the color, I was really impressed how do you fix at the end the changes between the hot and cold light. Thanks in advance for your attention.
I can watch your set up videos all day. This one was probably the best. Can I ask which microphone set up you use for your own youtube videos (for making this video)?
I have a similar setup at the movement. But instead of an external monitor, i use ipad with sidecar just below the camera, so that the camera can be angled from a lower height with 18mm lens. Thanks for the video anyway, love all your desk setup videos. I have learned alot from your you. Its crazy that such videos are free for us to watch!!
@@dslrvideoshooter For mic, i feel Audio technica ATR2100x may a versatile choice. As its both a XLR and usb mic (it can be used without audio interface). It can also be used as an external mic for ipad air4 or ipad pro without any extra cables. When i dont want the mic in the frame, i use BOYA MM1 like the way you explained with rode videomicro in the previous video, but first connected to Zoom H1 and then to mac via USB, so the audio can be monitored through audio out from zoom H1.
I love these. Even though I can't (or don't need to as I have some of the gear) buy the whole setup often there are pieces that I can that improve my setup a lot.
Thank you for including the side by side visual comparisons of the 15mm, 22mm, and 30mm lenses. I was leaning towards the Sony ZV-1 as my camera upgrade but seeing the Canon Mark 50ii with the 22mm lens has me seriously reconsidering!
That’s an impressive all in one desk setup, I have the same microphone and I’m definitely getting that pop filter, I’ve been looking for a compact one for ages! Thanks man 🙌
Great video Caleb. The Fuji xs-10 with the fantastic kit lens would also be a significant upgrade because it has a webcam built-in. With the Sony, you will need that video capture card.
That behringer mic sounds very good ! when you switched from using the behringer mic close up to whatever you where using when not, sound quality took a dip, some very harsh frequencies came through. im getting that xm mic , great video as always !
Love the videos! I am having an issue with the Light Panel staying in the softbox. I've tried gaffe and duct tape to keep it in there without luck. The panel keeps slipping away from the tape. What else can I try to get that stingy light in place (magnets? super glue??)? Thanks again for the awesome content!
This was RIDONKULOUSLY helpful!! What color walls do you have in the studio? A light grey? It looks like depending on lens/lighting you get a pretty dramatic push towards a 33% grey in the background.
The video had a bit of audio sync problem is the beginning. But awesome set up. I use almost the same set up but instead of a camera I use my phone was my webcam and it works perfectly never failed me till now and for microphone I use boya mm1 with filter.
Outside the US that light is really expensive. In Australia equal to $275US. I’m just finally using some of the stuff from one of your previous videos to set up a desk set up.
This is pretty darn close to what I have going on. But i use the Shure SM48, and a cheap work light from Home Depot with a 7in diffuser. I also have everything mounted on mic boom arms to I can move them as needed.
Nice job on this video! Thanks for sharing the info. During quarantine I tested several video converters I found the IOgear UpStream Video Capture Adapter has really color and bitrate for streaming. Ended up using my GH5 in VLOG and made a few custom LUTs in Resolve which can be applied in OBS and it looks oh so sweet.

I'm not good in electrics but with good guidance and my wife on my side we can get things done. Now, for a new simple RUclips channel, what type of camera or electronic equipment should I buyer. I'm using your link to buy the table, microphone gear etc...but I need a short list of the items needed to get my channel running. Also, I'll be having Zoom meeting, on screen recording etc., so the equipment should be able to handle both/all.
Update- I had not watched this video and you've covered everything I needed to know. Many thanks !!
Great video as always, got a few inspirations for improving my video conference setup! Keep up the great work!
God I love this setup.... reminded me of a James 1.0
