@waduheck7860 I generally can't hear it, at least until about 10k. Music in my full face, earplugs and stock pipes. It's going from 6th at 6-7k and trying for a gear that doesn't exist that gets me.
@@swat1229 try to listen to each and every gear everytime you ride, you will get eventually familiarised with it, I'm also a beginner rider I start riding March this year 2023
@@waduheck7860 After a certain rpm it just sounds the same to me. My helmet cover adds a lot of air drag, so it doesn't help that the engine sound at 130 and 150 mph sounds about the same (difference between 13.7k and 15.8k rpm in 6th gear), its just the wind becomes dominant with the OEM exhaust and with how high up in the band it is. My other bike it was very obvious (didn't have a rpm gauged and apparently no rev limiter, RIP little Chinesium engine), because it redlined around 8k rpm with a single cylinder (well, it was supposed to, but apparently I was running it closer to 10k rpm for quite a while and it didn't like it that much). At least its obvious when to shift thanks to feeling the power band, so that's not really an issue, but my car I can tell you within +- 1 mph typically from the engine sound and gear selected because I know the exact engine rpm from its sound (its a rotary engine though, so it still gets well up in the RPM range, but it doesn't have the wind noise of an exposed bike)
I learned how to drive a manual car before I ever drove an automatic. When I was like 12 my dad taught me how to drive in a 84 manual Porsche and I would always be looking at the dashboard at first and taught me to basically just learn how the car sounded/felt for when to shift. He used to make me wear a hat and sunglasses when I would drive so you couldn't tell how young I was, he'd literally be like we're going to the mall and we get outside and i think we're taking his truck and he'd just throw me Porsche keys and tell me I'm driving lol, the mall was like 30+ minutes away. He used to take me and let me do burnouts and donuts in parking lots cause "he knows what a teenager wants to do in a nice car and so I get it out of my system and drive nicely". He would do burnouts and launch on the streets but he always said it was cause he's older, he can just tell the cop his foot slipped and they'd probably believe him but there's no chance they're gonna believe a young guy.
Damn your dad sounds like a cool guy😂. Knows exactly how much to let loose and chill while also being careful and not go overboard when you're having fun. ttt as guys you kinda have to let that steam off sometimes.
I actually started this year, may 10 2023 is the first day I got on a motorcyle, started on a 03 cbr600rr. I watched a couple how to ride videos, my friend taught me how to ride in a parking lot for a few hours, then it was time to go to the notary to finish up the title work for the bike. I forced my self to just go, traffic was terrifying a bit, I messed up putting the plate on (last owners sketchy wiring) and i shorted the dash. I rode for 2 weeks with zero dash, and it helped.
Riding a classic without gear indicator and not relying on the tachometer made me learn how to "feel" the bike and know when to change gears by instinct.
I’ll be watching this because I’m getting my first bike either a ninja or a suzuki one of the smaller models (I don’t want a huge bike with a lot of power to start) and I’m kinda excited but not sure how to ride 😅 I’m gonna take like a class or something but I need the bike.
I been thinking about getting my first bike but don’t know how too drive a manual and after this video I feel more empowered too get my first bike and stall for the first time. HELL YEAH
Funny thing is I used to live in Bangkok and decided to buy a motorbike to beat the insane traffic. So I brought it from the shop and was given the key but had to explain to the mechanic that brought it out I couldn't ride a manual so could I pay him to deliver it to my house. He told he's friends and I had the entire shop laughing at me. I've never been so embarrassed 😂 I got it delivered and watched a RUclips video and spent an afternoon going in circles round my village and then was riding on the road the next day.
My speedometer sensor broke during a long trip but I knew the sound of engine and the speed related to revs in each gear, so I relatively knew how fast I was going. For those who don't have reflexes yet established is a good advice (also better avoid the hours of heavy hectic traffic)
I can ride clutch well but my four wheeler has a semi automatic transmission, all I do is let off the gas and shift up, and all gears are up and down so neutral is easy to find. If I hit just the right rpm, I can just shift up and not let off the gas
I shifted for 20+ years on manuals (2 and 4 wheels, sports and off-roads… you name it). Now that the DCT is here, I like to enjoy it: Different age, different priorities. Should I do what you suggested?
Not saying this is bad advice for beginners… but everyone should know about rpm, throttle control, and most importantly balance. But yea knowing how the bike feels and sounds at certain points is also important too.
I have a bad habit at looking at the speedometer for some reason. And my dash doesn’t even tell me what gear I’m in, the light only goes green when I’m in neutral. It doesn’t even tell me how much fuel I’ve got. (for anyone wondering I’ve got a Honda varadero ‘05)
Good Vid. I like watching your vids. Its good that you note Sport Bike. About Instruments, I always go by feel ( instinct) on my roadster. You can loose 2 seconds scanning for RPM and speed when not necessary, where exhausting the window for a critical move needed within a 1/2 second - i.e Distance is 1.5 times your speed. By instinct if you feel you cannot manage the distance, then you are over speeding - btw: love sports bikes in Ride 4 ona rainy day, but otherwise I like my Roadster -
i was running once, and at 150ish my electrical fuse blew but my motor still ran fine i just had no power on all the electrical stuff. still got caught while getting a rockstar the following day
If you want to get caught speeding, cover your dash. If you want to miss any important warning lights telling you your bike has a fault, cover your dash. If you want to ride around with having accidentally left your indicator (blinker) on, cover your dash. Don’t cover your dash.
U never hear this from anyone about riding. Completely true though when I look at my dash it's never what gear am I in what do my revs say even jumping on a bike I never riden b4 most of the time it's holy shit I'm goin way fast than traffic. Then I look down. Whoops
When I get older I want one but my parents don’t want me to get one because thay dangerous but I will live my life to the fullest so I will get you only live for so long
Bro I covered the dash then crawled back into my mothers area now my dad is wondering why there’s a non removable sticker over his dash and why he can’t find me

Analog gauge sport bike with a manual trans will soon be the ultimate anti theft device 😂
Hahaha true
lol the kickstart on my 81 xl500 is my anti theft device. try kicking it wrong and it’ll blow your ankle out lmao.
hell the thing can do 80 in first gear... a thief will be alright with analog gauges. now the clutch, idk
All motorcycles r manual sequential lmao, except pit bikes and the new dual clutch gold wing
Hell a manual car wont ever be stolen by any gen z
"don't look at your dash" me with 17 speeding tickets

You should look at your dash, reading your speed is important. Covering it is a very bad idea, especially if you are ”learning how to ride”
