THANKYOU! I had so much trouble but the bulky yarn helps me understand it so much
You’re welcome! Happy to hear it!
After watching this video and trying to crochet for the first time, I spent six solid hours creating a ten foot long scarf and it looks beautiful! The stitches aren’t as tight as yours are, but the video was so easy to follow, even though I’m a leftie!
Saving this to my crochet playlist because I know damn well I’m gonna need to come back to this every time
THANK YOU SO MUCH, I watched like a million RUclips videos and I couldn’t do it but after watching your video I finally figured it out :))
Made my day! So happy to help 🤗
THANK YOU this video helped me so much with this stitch! All the other videos were so confusing but this video was so clear and I could understand it so much better! The bulkier yarn also helped so much! ☺️
You are so welcome!
thank you, i got a book about crocheting, and they showed this, but i needed a video to understand a little better. i found this and got it easily.
Love to hear that!! The visuals are always a must for me to learn something new
Thank you so much for clearly showing how you count your stitches. That part has always baffled me. Also, I love the yarn you use that makes it so easy to identify the first and last stitch. That has been a challenge for me.
i can’t do this but your voice is so calm and gentle it makes me wanna cry
You can do it 💗
@@Yarndrasil thank you i will keep trying
omg thank you so much for this video! I was really confused with the turning chains but you using bulky yarn cleared things out including counting the stitches. thank you!
So happy to hear this!!
I recommend this video for any one have troubles and see the crochet so complicated (just like me:)
Thank-you, I was doing it wrong, I was only going thru one of the stitches in the V at the top.
This was the first stitch of my pattern 😂 thanks for getting me past step 1!!
This is also how I learned 😅
Thank you so much for your video.i have been struggling with the half double crochet.this has helped me.
So happy to hear that! 😊
Your video was so helpful! Thanks for specifying to go under the whole stitch not just the front or back loop
You’re welcome!! That was info I struggled to find when I first started out so I’m happy it helped you ✨
Thank you! I did the hdc before but forgot as it's been so long.
PS It's refreshing to see you hold your hook the way I was taught in 1977!
I absolutely love your videos! I love that you show us how to with bigger yarn so we can see the stitches 🪡
Thank you so much, Jessie!! Happy crafting 🧶
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You are a crochet project savior🙏❤🥰🧶
You are so welcome!
Thank you!!out of all tutorials I have watched this was the the best,it was much easier to understand because of the bulky yarn!! Thanks☺️💜💖
You’re welcome! I’m happy it helped 💫
Well.. apparently I’ve been doing half double crochets wrong this whole time! 😂 I’ve been pulling up a loop, yarn over, pull through one, yarn over pull through three.. 🫣
LOL THATS WHAT I DO 😂😂
Don’t worry! So have I … 🫣
That's what I've been doing too. I just taught 28 people how to do it wrong. 🫣
That's what I've been doing too 😂 feels like a fever dream cause that's what i saw in a tutorial
Cyclinss
thank you! making lil xmas trees and no tutorial tells me how to hdc easily, their hands are always in the way! saved my last min xmas presents, i owe you one
Nice explanation for the turning chain. Love how slowly you worked thru. Thank-you
Happy it helped 💗
you're a great teacher !!!
Thank you so much!! 🥰
This is
helpful, especially as she holds her hook like I was taught. Love it!
I have been doing this all the time but got confused when other people mentioned the following steps:
"Yarn over- pull through the back loop/side loop- and then pull through the same 3 stitches. So they are skipping the 1 step completely, which is first get that back loop pull through by doing a yarn over and once that is on your hook only then you pull through all 3". I think I am not able to describe the problem but thanks a ton for you video. Now I am confident that I was doing it correctly.
Thank you for this ive been looking for tutorials but i didnt understand it as the tutorials dont start with the first row and with small yarn but yours helped me out alot bc i can see the yarn and i can memorize the steps ❤❤
Thank you for this video - the best one I’ve seen…I finally get it! Now I’m an expand my repertoire and make my child their pilllow 😊
Thx so much I just started yesterday and this helped!!
Great video! The large yarn and hook help to understand this stitch so much better! Many thanks!!!
Thank you for teaching me with no spaces o crochet with spaces thank you.
The best tutorial i have ever used! nice and clear, not to mention easy to follow!
This is such a wonderful video, thank you! Your voice is so soothing and you explain things so clearly that I easily understood even without working it through myself (yet!) as I watch! So thank you again for your wonderful instructions!! ☺️
I’ve looked at so many videos this was the most helpful.
I watched another RUclips tutorial that taught me an incorrect way to do this (only going through the front loop). Now I know why my cardigan is looking different to the example 😂 Hopefully it'll still be wearable. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!
I’ve been there 😅 Only you’ll know. If anyone asks it was a “design choice”.
This was the first video I watched on half double crochet and since I already know how to double crochet, it was really easy. Regardless, thank you this was really helpful!
thank you so much for helping me
Thank you lady your tutorials very useful!!
Very helpful and nicely done!!! Thank you!!
So happy it helped!!
Thank you so much!! Best video ever!! So easy to follow and very informative. Following you

Thank you so much for your help.
Thank you for this great video!
You’re welcome!
Beginners use light colour's till u master stitch I did like that dark colour confuses as we can not get clarity it is my personal we experience repeated practice makes us master of that I learnt granny square flat circle Jasmine star stitch thru tutorials
Hello, when I have crochet in the past, I never did anything other than the double stitch, and for the life of me I couldn't remember how the half double went. Thank-you for making it very clear. I have just one question ❓ After your ch is done, you started your hdc on the back side of the chain, why is that?? Please
Thank-you 🦩🌺🦩
Hey there! Happy to hear that it helped. 😊 I always work into the back bump of the chain because it makes that edge look nice and neat. It’s worth experimenting with a bit of extra to see which method you prefer. Happy crocheting 💗
Thank you. I'm a beginner. XXX
You’re welcome! So happy to help! 😊
Thank You
You’re welcome ❤️
I love this video! Thank you for using such large yarn so I could actually see what you were doing! I love that yarn where did you get it from?
ty so much
You’re welcome! 💫
The other tutorial was really fast and hard but this is nice i almost that i forgot to do that
Is there a way to do it without having to count stitches? I want to make a blanket, but cant see my self trying to count 70ish stiches everytime i turn a row.
Will this make a square ? I saw another video in which they don't skip the first two, and since I'm trying to make a sweater with squares as a beginner I'm kinda lost
This will absolutely make a square! It's best to measure your squares, as the number of rows that need to be worked depends on the yarn that you're working with.
Both methods (counting the chain, and not counting the chain) are technically correct. Imo, the edges look much neater when the chain is not counted. Hope this helps!
Crochet into the back of the chain!? 🤯
Hi! 👋🏼 I love the way you explain this. Perfect for beginners. I was wondering what brand that yarn is. It’s gorgeous!
Thank you so much! It’s “Crazy Sexy Wool” by Wool & the Gang ❤️
@@Yarndrasil I will definitely be ordering that on Amazon! Thank you!
Do you have to go in the back loops?? The blanket I’m trying to make is fuzzy and thicker yarn but I can’t see the back loops so I just went through the front loops? Is that okay or what??
I LOVE YOU THANK YOU TvT
You’re welcome!! 💖
I love this stitch but I'm having a hard time understanding. I've seen three different methods of doing the Turning chain.
1. Some tutorials will have a turning chain of two then crochet in the first stitch.
2. turning chain of two then skip the first stitch.
3. Turning chain of one and work in the first stitch
Are any of these methods wrong or it doesn't matter which one you do?
Hi Nas! The best way to explain this is that some designers count the hdc turning chain as a stitch, but most do not. It’s a personal preference - for this stitch only. Which is so annoying, I know. It’s just that both ways look correct.
You should always chain 2 so that you start the row or round at the correct height for half double crochet. I recommend working up small swatches (4” wide or so). Do one where you count the turning chain, and one where you don’t. Then you can decide for yourself which way looks best.
I personally don’t count the turning chain with this stitch. Hope this helps!
@@Yarndrasil oh ok. Makes sense! I'll always chain 2 from now on and I'll see if counting the chain 2 as a stitch works better for me or not. Thank you for explaining! 😃🤗
You are very welcome!! 💗
What yarn are you using here? It's lovely
The 2 chains for turning over, i know you mentioned it’s because the height of the stitch, but I’m confused. Is it solely the height of the stitch that requires 2 turn over chains? Or is it the combination with bulky yarn? Was going to attempt this stitch but I have thinner yarn so didn’t know if I still needed the 2 turn over chains
I have a question 1:22 for working from the back finding the bumps in each stitch…Is there anyway we can work from the front as I work with a chunkier yarn and can’t really see the bumps …? I am working with a fuzzier chenille yarn which makes it wonderful to see the bumps, lol
Is it a mandatory rule to always skip the first two stchs and ch 2 at the end?
Ive always went into the second stch and ch 1 and never came across any problems
I am so confused. I've seen videos where they explain that for a half double crochet you have to skip the first loop and work into the second, but other videos say that you have to skip two loops and work into the third.. which one is correct? Thank you :)
so are we working into the back bumps?
What brand and name of yarn is that? It’s gorgeous with this stitch!
If I’m using smaller yarn do I still need to yarn two extra loops for the turning chain?
Yes! You’ll always want to chain two at the end of a row (or round) when working half double crochet.
Hi! I am working on a baby play mat project currently and I am very new to crochet!!
My question is.. what does it mean when the pattern details says “2hdc in next stitch, 1hdc in each of the next 2 stitches” will your adding a stitch beginner video help me with that?
Thank you!!!
Just wondering. Can you work into the front bumps?
Yes! But the edge of your first row and last row will look slightly different.
What is the size of your yarn and hook? I like the thickness
Other tutorials I've seen go into the front of the stick so now I'm confused
Both ways work, the way shown in this video is more neat because it creates two edges that match
What kind and size of yarn are you using?
Should working with half double crochet be only on back loops ??
Sorry for the delay - go under both loops unless the pattern notes otherwise
@@Yarndrasil no worrie, thank you so much
what kind of yarn is that?? its so cute
It’s the best! Brand is Wool and the Gang and the type is Crazy Sexy Wool.
at the end how do finish the square up
You'd work rows until the length and height were the same. Then cut the yarn about 6" away from the piece. Finally, pull that tail end out through the last stitch so that your work doesn't unravel.
If you need info on how to weave in your ends, I have a video on that: ruclips.net/video/R-DgHTNffdw/видео.html
Does it work too if I used chunky yarn ?
Absolutely! This stitch works with any size yarn.
I’m having an issue. When I do double crochet there’s always gaps between each one.
Do I have to work from the back? does it matter?
Sonif i need 79 half double crochet i need 81 foundation chains, right?
