Completely didn't realize Violet Evergarden released an OVA until a few weeks ago but when I watched it, I fell in love with the series all over again and may or may not have shed tears when TRUE sang this song.
I was also overjoyed to find that PianoPrinceOfAnime (bit.ly/1Q8O0ai) created an instrumental for this song :D

Tribute to the soldier who never return home to their loves ones
It hurts more if you are a World War history buff like me. We know what shit those men went through in both World Wars and to make it worst. Things like letters that didn't get to the soldiers in the front line happened way too often in real life. Imagine how many souls didn't get their letters. Not just the Allies but the Axis too. It's just hurts when you know more.
And sometimes the soldiers in the front line lost contact with their family either they get bombed or shelled or move to a safer place. Some only found that their entire family is dead after the war ended. This happens more often in the Axis side but we often shrugged it off because well, they are the Axis and the truth hurts.
Goddamn whoever wrote that episode and this song is way on point.
I remember studying the World Wars in history and it the way education describes it doesn't nearly measure up to the way it's portrayed in this episode. I completely agree with you - this episode was written so well and really brings out the tragic emotions we don't get that often when we learn about the wars. ;v; Thank you for writing this comment
Damn, that really sucks.. no soldier should go back to a dead family and no family should come back to a missing family member. I can’t imagine what that feels like but what I do know is that thing song portrayed that beautifully to make anyone cry 👏

I agree with you but if wat has come, i will fight for peace. I don't think we will ever have a peace. I learn from history.
Very, very late comment, but it's even a bigger gut punch when you're waiting for the letter from your parent that's at the front (I'm the daughter of an army veteran who did 4 combat tours). I think that's why I loved the series as a whole BECAUSE of the messages, and that one episode just about killed me with how I felt back when dad was overseas.
I'm trying to remember if my great grand dad ever sent letters back home because if he did, I've never seen nor heard about them. I can only imagine the pain of my great grandmother who had a baby when he left and didn't know if he would come back. It was worse because he was a cryptographer and was always ahead of the main forces in Holland.

Many anime classic songs get ruined by artists trying to adapt them. This was truly the best English version I've ever heard of a Japanese song. I can't thank you enough for putting out something as good as the original song 😌🎶

I cried at the end of each episode. This anime made me realise we all have to enjoy and live life to the fullest, because we never know when our lives will end. Be grateful and be there for others. It’s English covers like this which remind me of why I study hard to learn Japanese. I know it sounds really weird but hearing the beauty of the English makes me want to hear how absolutely gorgeous the original must sound. Thank you this was an amazing cover

Trying to find this song in English was hard and listening to this is amazing good job it is amazing. I guess to be honest this song makes me cry but I think it is because of the emotion in the person who sings it. I guess I can feel their emotions with hearing the song.

@@editit5698 In the series at one moment Claudia hodgings tells violet that she has many burns and that she's burning right at the moment, she denies it some times, and later in the series she finally understand what are emotions and feelings (before in the war she was a tool, finish her missions were her only purpose treated like a psychopate) and when she finally graps the complexity of emotions and feelings, she starts to scream in pain alone in her room, she's burning due to her horrible deeds in the past it was so painful that she tried to take her life.
I don't know if you might even read this but let me just say thank you for reminding me the warmth of a person. Whether they left or they stayed, the fleeting feelings we have is still there, basking us like the sun above. Sometimes we don't even notice those until its gone afterall :>
