Kyoto Animation REALLY needs to hire you. I just sat down to watch the movie and I was constantly thinking about these lines in particular: "Promises cannot be broken." Violet's pinky promise to Yuris that she would deliver the letters and not excessively worry about him. "Every mistake that's made, it will remain." This is double-folded. Obviously, Violet's grief at the amount of innocent strangers she killed - but also Gilbert's guilt for preventing her from having a normal, carefree childhood. Finally, the titular line: "Oh, so this is free WILL." Violet managing to make a name for herself as an influential scribe who is compassionate and gentle. Gilbert no longer adhering to his father's desires and deciding to teach those precocious kids to become functioning members of the small society that is Ekarte Island. The remaining Dolls and their adjustment to the invention of the telephone. Even if their jobs do become obsolete, that doesn't devalue or retcon their abundant quality work. In fact, the "horrible device" could open up a lot more career opportunities that would allow them to gain more social skills and insight into the beautiful world of Leidenschaftlich. After all, just like the Greek philosopher Heraclitus once said: "The only constant in life is change."
