i actually had an imaginary friend that i was so mean to. Her name was Samantha. i've looked back at those times now as an adult wondering why i would create a friend i would be mean to. i think it is because i grew up in a home with an abusive father who would beat my mom in front of me. i think it was the only way i knew how to get all those "bad feelings" out bc i couldn't stand up to my dad and if i did, he would make me regret it. So i think samantha was created as a safe space to get all of those feelings out (pain, anger, sadness) without fear of abuse or abandonment. it was the only time in my life as a child that i felt like i was in control, fearless, and strong. Eventually, i stopped needing samantha and she disappeared. Samantha, i wanted you to know that I finally stood up to my dad and he is no longer in my life. He can't hurt me or my mom anymore and you helped me learn to do that. Thank you samantha for being there and for helping a child through the darkest time in her life.
