This video shows how to tie both a granny knot and a square (reef) knot and demonstrates how the granny knot is inherently more prone to slippage and is an inferior knot.
Thank you, Sir! My grandmother took a boating course and I had vaguely remembered her telling us about square knots and granny knots. I think she showed us as well, but I just couldn't remember how each one was made. This really helped!
Thanks for watching. I think you are correct. I know I would tie granny knots by accident and not paying attention to what I was doing. Some ropes and twine have a lot of surface friction and a granny knot may work.
Thanks for watching and your comment. My hands are not very attractive. Wearing the gloves was based only on my concern about the way my hands look. I do appreciate your comment because it gives me good feedback on how my video is perceived by viewers. Thanks again for your feedback.
@@anisotropicplus thanks for clarifying, I knew there had to be a reason why. Keep up with the educational videos, I showed my 10 yo son the knots you highlighted and he was impressed 👍🏻
@@anisotropicplus I think what's cool about practising with gloves on is that it challenges your dexterity. If you can tie knots with gloves on, you might be able to handle pressure or difficult situations out in the real world better when you don't have the limitations of the gloves!

Thank you for the comparison, as I’ve always wondered about this!
Thanks for your comment.
Grannys knot may be slippage knot, but we all slip for her love ❤
Thanks for your comment.
Thank you for this demonstration.
Thanks for your comment.
Does the grannie knot have a purpose? Seems like a failed reef/square knot?

Thanks for video. I didn’t understand the wearing of the gloves though… just made it look a bit cumbersome for you (and the viewer) just saying 😉
