Yes the short end should be towards u while knotting.

Yes while pulling the knots the ends of the suture should go in opposite direction.
And if this is granny knot ehich you have explaines then what is the reef knot?
I always thought that granny knot means you make every knot in the same direction thats whty it gets loose
