This is crazy! 16 minutes in.. thats me and my missus in the background announcing to all our family that were pregnant. 32 of us were in matt molloys that day on a family holiday for the week. Guinness is definitely a winner in there 🍻
Had my best Guinness ever in Westport in 2005 in the Olde railway hotel.Waited over 5 minutes for the pint. The head was a masterpiece in its self.As I recall nearly 10mm above the rim..First one was finished rapid..Probably had about 8 pints that day.Amazing pint.Felt great the next day.Sadly never bettered.Yet!! Loving the videos Guru
Was in Moran’s last Saturday evening 9/7/22 great pints McBrides in Westport has a great pint and most pubs in Westport seem to have great pints with schtick.👍
Maybe the Shtick is microscopic dust build up inside the glass or has the glass been scrubbed, creating a rougher inside for the Guinness to Shtick too. Definitely an odd one. Great vid Daragh👍🏻
You shoud do a video testing what effects schtick. Like go to some pub with good pints where ya know the owner and test like a clean glass, dirty glass, wet glass, hot and cold glasses and all that to try and find out what effects schtick and those little bubbles you see on the sides of a "dirty glass".
You should implement a light sabre to the game for those ones where punters are waiting with baited breath and you know it's a good one. Instead of ushering words from your mouth instead slowly go for the light sabre, activate it for several seconds and deactivate it before delivering your verdict. The light sabre shouldn't be overused rather reserved as a beacon to indicate its a top 5% review.
Nice job. I miss Westport. I have an idea for u Guru. Bit of a change of pace and a good idea I think. Mrs.Guru may also want to be involved. In 2 parts, how about finding the 'Best Pint of Guinness in the Aran Islands'? The pubs of Inishmore should be easy enough. Make sure you're timing is right on the 2 smaller islands though. On my only visit to Inisheer, I saw 3 pubs. Only 1 was open though (the excellent Tigh Neds). And don't leave Inishmaan out. I believe it has only 1 pub (Teach Costa?) so make sure it'll be open beforehand. I drank a lot in Teach Costa back in 2015. Nice pub, much better than average Guinness. The owner apparently had high standards for his pub even though he had no competition - being the only pub on the island. I was impressed. Wouldn't it be something if the only Aran Island pub with no competition were to come out on top? You be the judge. (Side note) On Inishmore, I suggest the cliffs near Black Fort for watching the sun go down. U and Mrs.Guru may have it all to yourselves. P.S. - The drone shots of the islands should be spectacular...but watch out for the small airplanes.
You need to do a ranking in Cavan. I work in a pub myself but i'd say the best one in town is the Abbey bar (I don't work there) beside the bus station.
About your pint at the Grainstore: you mentioned straight off that the pint was a touch warmer than at the previous pubs. This may have affected the “shtick”, sliding down the inside of the glass , as the foam itself, which like a meringue is composed of chains of protein molecules. PS- I was a brewery technician for fifteen years… slainte mor!
Some great pints in westport before ive even seen the video ive tested out alot of the pups down that way while working on the keys complex back in the late 90s
Superb pint in Matt Malloy’s. For me, better than both The Gravediggers in Dublin and Taaffes in Galway (and they were terrific) Let’s face it, it’s all very subjective when the Guinness is so good in most places in Ireland. Great videos, Darragh. Inspired me on my tour of Ireland to drink my body weight in great Guinness.
Darragh you need to get Mrs Guru to do a review 😂..! Also I don’t think you can go wrong with the Guinness in Westport as there’s not much difference between them all. Fair play to you fella your doing a grand job. 🇮🇪🍀
I had two weeks in Westport a few years ago now, and never had a bad pint. Great little town and area in general. I hope to get back over there one day. :-D
My partners family is from Westport. His Mom and Aunt went years ago. I wish 8 could send him to see it for himself, They are Dolan’s and I for got his Mothers family name. They moved t9 a small town in Iowa where everyone there are Irish immigrants. It still mostly is but the older farms are being sold off as the current residents age out. All of his family are buried in the old Churchyard. The Church is pretty much closed down and The Nuns have moved out as well. It’s only used for funerals now.
This may sound like a dumb question but I’ve only just started enjoying guiness. Does it really taste so much better in Ireland than the uk or is it only slightly different.
Matt molloys was the best pint i had in westport got that ice cream effect off it i think they use 2 different taps to fill a pint! mild tap and cold tap
Matt Molloy's was a fantastic pint after climbing The Reek in 2019. Was the bar dog Django still in there, lad? Great video - hope you got to see a trad session while in town.
I like the interaction with the bar patrons kicking it up a level lad. I’m a Big fan of Three Sheets with Zane Lamprey - check out his videos on RUclips

Matt Molloy's never disappoints, and brilliant if you enjoy the music sessions

Westport is a great spot , lived there for awhile. Heneghans was my favorite pub there , not sure if it’s still open or renamed but a great spot 👍
‘Domeo and Juliet’…. I’m having that one G! 😀
Great video as always Darragh! Next time you're in Mayo, please visit Ballina, especially Rouses Bar.
Anspach and hobday London black could be worth a try it looks like guiness and is apparently a slightly sweeter version.
Nice job. I miss Westport.

Hon the Fleadh.
Lovely city!!!
the shtick is the least important aspect ..
No stick means dirty/greasey glass, which in my opinion affects the taste. So i’d say it is important..
@@jameskiernan8548 but then it will be the taste .. so great taste and no shtick should not be a mark down to me
It's all about the shtick.
shtickport. bring back culzy
