    The spotted dog is the only traditional Irish pub. It was used by the Irish in the 50s/60s/70s who lived in the area and went to St Annes. The Kerryman is a construct. None of the trad Irish pubs had Irish names (the Bear, Anteloope,, Mermaid, etc) . Rough pubs in their day. They were Irish pubs simply because Irish peopled used them and they made the most money. Irish pubs became a theme globally because the belief was if you call it an Irish pub you'll attract Irish drinkers.

    Such a shame about the dog.
    I've been a fan of your videos since near the start and have always made a point to go to any I've seen you rate if I'm around that area.
    Ive been looking forward to the brum video as I can say with 100% certainty it's the best I've had in the UK and only one comparable to irish standards. Ive been there over ten times and its always excellent... My jaw dropped when I saw the state of what you got served 😂
    Anyway great to see you sneaked a quick one in with Eddie in the lamp. Keep it up buddie, get yourself to Manchester next!

    Worked in a pub that did a decent pint of Guinness the majority of the time but if the kegs just been changed, or it's a really hot day, you'd struggle to pour a good pint. Some places would just pour pints like that away until they start pouring good but if ye have one of those managers who wants every drop sold then you've got to give it over. Used to cringe at some of pints I'd hand over.

    • @ChrisLarsenOfficial
      @ChrisLarsenOfficial 2 года назад +2

      Comes down to how consistent the gas pressure is and how long the lines are on this one - first pint or two might be a bit lively but after that they shouldn't be any different! Some taps/systems not properly dialed in unfortunately build up pressure if the tap isn't being used every 10-20 minutes and you'll have to release pressure by pulling the tap / 'pre-pour' a splash before you pour a pint.

    The main mistake you make in GB is assuming that “Irish” bars would be the best. Far, far from it. They generally take the proverbial and take for granted the craic simply because they might have a Tricolour and the Proclamation on the wall…yawn. A pub with an Irish landlord who looks after all the beers (English ales, Scottish heavies etc) would be a better gauge.

The Spotted Dog would have been my choice for the best pint of Guinness in Brum, what they served you was a disgrace, the stuff that comes out of a can is better than that for about a euro. I just don't know what to say except I am a Guinness drinker and I have been to Ireland many times, oh by the way I am a Brummie and I do live in Birmingham and have been to the Spotted Dog Many times.
