IQF - Individually Quick Frozen Fish is honestly not bad. People always think 'Fresh means' better - but fish has a very short period of being at it's best. Plus whether it's Fresh or Frozen, you need to remove as much of the water content before it hits the oil. The 'cutting cost' critique is a fallacy. The only thing they can cut cost on is reusing old Oil and buying cheaper potatoes. Frozen Fish is absolutely fine as long as it's defrosted properly. I ran a restaurant that did Fish and Chips for 20 years, inherited from my Father who had it 30+ - we did both Fresh and Frozen - and I guarantee you Fresh Fish in rancid Oil is worse than Frozen Fish in fresh Oil. Plus making sure the Oil is at the right temperature 185C to 190C makes it crispy, even a small drop to 175C and it comes out soggy and floppy.

I had a local chippy once that sliced their fish in half length ways & it was super thin, standard fish fillet usually has the skin on the bottom if it’s a whole genuine piece. I can't imagine how bad the f&c would have to be , before I wouldn't eat it.
Come up to Scotland mate and try my shop. The grove in montrose national finalists for the best on Scotland. We have been serving fish and chips in our family run shop for over 68 years. Hope to see you in the summer
Should've got to WIYU Chinese drive thru in Warrington mate way better there
There's a worse Fish and chip shop in Callander in Scotland absolutely shocking
Im sure that bloke is Christos who used to work in our local chippy about 20 miles from there in chorley. Nothing was ever brilliant but it was never shit. And they did good curry sauce.
worst i had ever was chippy in mall next to kassam stadium oxford, absolutely vile not even edable, as for that chipshop on the block its clear the owner has given up
Bennett’s fish and chips weymouth, the best in the country
Curry sauce on chips, if they're crap. Alas, most of the chips i come across now are indeed, crap !! No bugger uses proper dripping to cook 'em in. They use that dreadful Ghee stuff. Needless to say, i do'nt eat 'em half as often as i used to. The best thing about these asiatic run chippies is the curry sauce, be it an Indian or a Chinese type. It's a shame.
My mum worked in a fish shop in the 70s. If they had turned out f and c like that it would have shut down overnight.💩💩
You should've gone straight back in and made a scene? haha!
so the fish isn't even freshly cooked to order, just sitting in an oven drying out
I don't know if they are connected (be a wired coincidence if not) but just a short drive away in Widnes is Terry's chippy. And it's top notch 👍. It's so good, I travel 5 miles to go only there. I must pass 10 other chippies on the way.
That’s how proper chip shop chips should be - soft with loads of salt and vinegar, than of that triple cooked bullshit
Forged Irish stout is a fantastic beer , I tried last weekend had o a lovely session on the cans 🍻
That poor fish died for nothing 🙈🤣🤣
Try the fish & chip shops down in Perrenporth, Cornwall. 🤮
Worse fish and chips is mermaid clapton east London greasy chips and under cooked batter from someone who tried it never again
u gotta try harefield fish bar in harefield southampton, amazing grub and they just won an award
We’ll get it on the list!
No there's one here that's absolutely vile ,,,
Looks like that 2.7 was just for the friendly service by the staff
I’ve been dying to see him give a review that wasn’t an 8.4 or above.
I had some fish and chips in Buxton which reminded me of this review. Was not good, full of oil.
Come to Durham for the worst Fish & Chips on Nevilles bank called Stantons. Made me ill a few times. I now never buy from them.
