He’s fine now, and the car makes a great parts car for our other cars. But for a few suggestions, swap the shifter for a short shifter when you do the shift bushings. They’re around $6 online and they’re great. You’ll have to pull the shifter anyway, so you may as well replace it if the previous owner didn’t already. Make sure to do valve stem seals when you do the head gasket because every Sol burns oil until you do this. You’ll figure that out if you replace the head gasket and it still blows some smoke. Better to do it at the same time. Since you have the 1.5 liter, there isn’t much to do for power, so keep it mostly stock. Anything you do will just lower its great fuel economy. I have a love for the little Honda and Toyota sports cars. This looks like a fun little project car and definitely a solid daily driver for someone who needs a fun point A to point B driver that doesn't need too much upkeep to keep things running. Thanks for the video Chris. I've got another generation of Grandkids learning the basics for car maintenance now, and they want a little project car for their first. (My dad made us buy our own cars and work on them before we could get a license.) At the time I thought he was being too hard on us but those first few years of being an adult mean that you don't have a whole lot of money but you tend to have plenty of time. I've gotten myself out of more than one jam and even though I definitely made mistakes, I learned to fix them, and once you've done something once the process becomes more intuitive as you go along. To anyone reading this, make mistakes, if you have to incredible hulk it, penetrating fluid and a drink (hopefully non alcoholic) are you best friends. Have patience and know that when you finally have those bolts off and a 10mm in the engine bay, your car will still keep chugging along. I bought one car that I couldn't find the source of the jingling even after I checked the suspension and engine. I crawled under the car again, thinking I might have to get it to a specialist mechanic when I took a test drive around the block and found a 10mm socket on the driveway. No more jingling and that car ended up being a capable little 4x4 for where we lived in the boonies.
I'd love to see individual video's on how to fix head gasket, ball joints etc. Then either find some other ideas to show us how to's with the car or once it's all complete do a wheeler dealer type thing
Individual episodes please. It'll be very informative for all of us and hopefully we'll learn a thing or two along the way and man you're great at what you do so keep on doing what you do best. Which is FIX CARS.
That poor kid just lost almost all his freedom for $300. At least give him the option to buy it back for a good price. It would probably change his life right now.
Damn I want trying to be rude to Chris. I have mad respect for him. He didn't steal the car by any means. It has enough issues to be worth 300. I'm just saying I think it would be cool to show us all the fixes and give it back or have the kid pay for parts or something. Chris does amazing work and puts in who knows how many hours of editing and setup. Nothing personal intended. Love Chris.
I remember watching this video when it was new. Shortly after, my dad brought home a beater '99 civic sedan. I learned a lot with that car, how to jump start a car, how to clean mold, how to replace a muffler, how to drive manual. He eventually gave up on working on it and sold it for $500 to a junkyard about 2 years ago. I'm getting my permit in a week or so and god I wish he kept it. Now I'm not sure if I can even afford anything manual. A Neon would be nice, but thag civic was something else.
That car needs a turbo. Get it pushing 200-250 hp on such a lightweight platform and you've got one hell of a fun summer car! A lot of easy fixes, and I don't recall seeing a 'how to turbo' video on your channel yet :D
Since you already have a DriftStang, why not make this a little grip monster? The weight is amazing, and with some minor forced induction, this can be a track beast!
10:22 You gotta respect that blur job. I've seen movies that don't come close to that quality. Like his finger moves through the blue but his finger never becomes blurry yet the text as it comes out the other side is still blured, love it.
a full on engine swap with instructions would kick ass. I watched many videos of engine swappings without getting told what actually gets done. It would be very nice interesting and informative. and thanks for all your other videos they are so cool and I learnt many things and I am less scared of operating on my car.
I wish I had the money to show everyone how to do that, as well as learn a lot on my own...I plan to eventually do a 4g63T swap on my 2005 CS3 Mitsubishi Lancer, and document & "tutorialise" the whole thing XD...One day...one day.
Sorry my english is so suck check out a channel called "the skid shed" it's an affiliation of mighty car mods channel Al does engine swaps and tells you everything he is doing
Chris is by far the greatest most humble RUclipsr out there. He takes his valuable time to look at comments on videos even years after posting the original video. We even had a little convo on Instagram. I will always support this guy and he deserves everything he has
I have been very much I'm disbelief about this channel but two of the most unbelievable statements I've ever heard has me convinced this is one of the fakest channels I've ever heard! I really just can't believe they weren't edited out. There's one person behind the scenes that knows somewhat about cats and that's the one who proofreads the script.
I have to agree, I have been looking at doing a conversion on my car (95 civic coupe) and there is a severe lack of videos on it. Even forums don't have much info, a few pictures here and there, but not much.
Man love how this channel has grown. Fun fact. Few months ago me and a buddy took my ranger with one them trailers on a 3 hour trip to get a mightymax your vids definitely showed me how to look for stuff like that small issues and stuff. Got it with no spark and no fuel but seen it was just a missing fuse and seen he was buying relays thinking thag was the issue (I have a little experience with them trucks lol) seen there was a set of barring so needed that speedo cable just a good amount of work seen he had a fuel pump for it. But he had most the parts it needed. But for 300 got the thing and towed it home. But the best part is with them smaller trucks you can make them fishtail pretty quick at 80-85 or so lol but they are horrible to back up with guess where it’s such a short wheel base
Chrisfix please don’t sell that car. You never know if that could land in the hands of a ricer. I think that you should make individual videos for the stuff that needs fixing on the car. Fixing the power steering is something that would make a good video. And you should clean the outside, inside, and engine bay and do a before and after montage. Keep up the great videos and I’ll make sure to watch your next one!
Awesome video. You should keep the car. I find a lot of value in your videos and I'd like to see you fix the floor panel, do body work, and suspension work as well. I could continue to learn from you rather than you sell it off for profit. Everyone knows how to do that. You're Chris fix man! FIX IT! Additionally, you could make more money by making a few videos about fixing it rather than selling it.

Chrisfix, most of us viewers are real car enthusiasts and like to see cars being fixed up and loved. It would be nice to upload all repairs like DIYs so that a hobby mechanic like me can learn stuff that normally a wouldn't consider doing. After all, a car is only once in its life original and it would be great if for a change an unloved Honda like this would be restored to his former glory and doesn't end up like an ricer, as an beat up derby or as an piece of junkyard steal. Hopefully you will gif it your special TLC and make it as original as possible. Only you can do videos like: "how to re-spray a car yourself" the right way..😉
Ilias Lamari You and i thought the same thing i would like to him turn that Honda into a racer, and I would like to see if he can do like a beginner guide to mods on a car because I wouldn’t know where to start. Of course after seeing each single repair. I do I always watch his videos to fix my Honda Accord. What car you drive?
Accurate title is most important thing with cheap cars. So if nothing else you can just get rid of easy. Also.... Dont lose that $%^#. Happens to a lot of people. If you sign up for a free Experian credit check account it will let you enter VINs of cars you "own". It will give you owner history and show you all the possible brands and major accidents for free. You can add and remove all you want. Its important for ball park value. It will give you a score range for that specific car/model. Appreciate your videos Chris. Its good to see people learning to wrench.
Victor D. Romero that's actually a really good idea. I just got my driver's permit but him doing a "pimp my ride" series would be better in my eyes but great idea
I think that is what the consensus is in the comments! For the most part, the majority is saying to keep it and show fix videos for each thing that needs to get fixed.
A thirteen year old has a phone worth more than $300, it's impressive what you can do if you just saved your money and didn't buy a new phone every year
I think you should fix it back up and give it back to the original owner. Looks like he cut you a good deal and would be pretty awesome to "pay-it-forward" or in this case "pay-it-back"
Vinney1234 im sure he would greatly appriciate it. Looked like he was in a bad spot in the 1st place. And yoi could almost see the crushing look on his face as he loaded it up. And chris would make his money back an then some in ad revenue on the vids he did with it anyway.
I have been an avid fan from the Philippines, Chris. I really love what you do. I'm a school teacher who dreams of having a super reliable daily driver. Makes me wanna wish you're just a few blocks away and ask your cheapest car. Merry Christmas!
Yeah he was just doing because it was ChrisFix no one would ever do that for a normal person. The guy was originally asking $1000 but he paid $300 for it
Do your individual repair videos. Get the car back to being a very nice example of a Del Sol. After that, you have options. Option #1- Give it back to the poor kid who lost his car for $300 Option #2- Stick a B18c or K20 in the engine bay for a very fun car Option #3- Make it nice again, then flip it wheeler dealer style, but to be honest, I'd like to see the original owner get a chance to buy it back for a decent price.
That's what I'm saying. This poor kid probably just lost almost all his freedom and mobility for a couple hundred bucks. It's tough being young with limited funds and no tools or experience. It doesn't have to be 100% charity, just offer to sell it back to him for a decent price after repair costs and time invested.
I agree with OP! Give the Dude a chance at getting his car back. Why not bring him over and teach him some car repair? Might make for some interesting videos?
You should definitely do a learning video of how to replace each part that needs replacement.. I mean one for head gasket, one for suspension rebuild, etc. And then perhaps make a race car out of it!
your optimism with this car is very surprising every problem you saw looked like a nightmare but your brain saw opportunity in it lol. looking forward to the future of this project
Damien G lol from our perspectives that's how it looks but for a content creator like him and someone whose really passionate about cars, I enjoy seeing his positivity to fix it
I have to say thank you, Chris. I saw this and went out and bought a $350 honda on craigslist but that turned out to be stolen, so when I got out of jail (2 months later) I went and bought a 375$ Mazda. But then the transmission literally exploded, so I had to pay $180 for it to be towed of of the garage. SO I went and snagged a sweet cheverlet silverado for $450 on craigslist and as soon as I fixed the steering the fuel tank started leaking, which pointed out flashlights at the fuel line which was cracked all to hell... cost us only $50 to tow that one. So now - a year later - I'm down over a thousand bucks. Nice.
It also sounds like you’re right. You’re down over a thousand but you’re more knowledgeable and on a positive path to getting another car for a good value. Good day

I just picked up a 93 del sol as my first car can’t wait to binge watch the build series on this one and work away through the winter to make mine perfect again
The amount of people here saying ‘you ripped off the kid’ ‘you should give the car back’ annoys me, some people don’t understand the whole premise of flipping cars
@Vaughn Glugla No. IF, and yes, IF the guy he bought it from had knowledge and guts to repair it, he could have done it. But he may not have that. So it's CHRIS' knowledge that's worth the gain in car's value. Nothing else. Nothing unfair here.
@Vaughn Glugla 1, the previous offers jinson got was for 100 bucks, 2 if you look at the moment chris gave him the money you see that he actually paid 400 bucks
the car wasn't worth much to begin with and this kid is now on almost 9 million view video. I'd give him the car for free if I had a chance to be on this video with some advertising of my own brand

This. And also flip it.
Do individual videos and it would be cool to see a motor swap on your channel!
Keep up with all of good work.

Single episodes i prefer to learn about these things!!
The Chipies i agree with you

That car needs a turbo. Get it pushing 200-250 hp on such a lightweight platform and you've got one hell of a fun summer car! A lot of easy fixes, and I don't recall seeing a 'how to turbo' video on your channel yet :D
I agree. Do the necessary repairs and then slap a turbo on it!
Since you already have a DriftStang, why not make this a little grip monster? The weight is amazing, and with some minor forced induction, this can be a track beast!

a full on engine swap with instructions would kick ass.

I have been very much I'm disbelief about this channel but two of the most unbelievable statements I've ever heard has me convinced this is one of the fakest channels I've ever heard!
TheGhostofMarley I could be wrong, but I dont think this car ever had power steering
TheGhostofMarley I actually cringed when you mentioned the ricer part 😂😂😂
I would just say to make individual episodes on replacing parts, as well as keep it as a daily.

I agree, factory style repairs and as it is black, turn it into pearlescent white and make it look classy
Diy turbocharging would be a great video in my opinion :)

Do your individual repair videos. Get the car back to being a very nice example of a Del Sol. After that, you have options.
Option #1- Give it back to the poor kid who lost his car for $300
Option #2- Stick a B18c or K20 in the engine bay for a very fun car
Option #3- Make it nice again, then flip it wheeler dealer style, but to be honest, I'd like to see the original owner get a chance to buy it back for a decent price.
catch22frubert let it go back to the owner.... that’s a awesome idea

That's what I'm saying. This poor kid probably just lost almost all his freedom and mobility for a couple hundred bucks. It's tough being young with limited funds and no tools or experience. It doesn't have to be 100% charity, just offer to sell it back to him for a decent price after repair costs and time invested.

Nice.
