Dude, what a twist. Asking for matching what the artists make to pay them double is showing how much she appreciates the craft of those collaborating with her. VERY STRANGE to see that in a company leader. What a role model she is
Gratitude reciprocates! She’s very smart and although I feel like it’s genuine, it’s a very strategic boss level chess move from her end.
Keep your content creators happy and they will keep delivering great content for years to come. Straightforward business move.
3 things that were clear:
1. Everybody liked her immediately.
2. She didn't like Kevin at all.
3. She wanted Mark from the get go, even though Lori probably fit the social mission better. Lori was eager to make a deal

Alexander is correct. It's not genuine. It's a power move to sway people to her team so they think "wow what a generous and incredible lady!" Halo effect full steam. Once she profits, she will not raise the artist percentage.
She's incredibly impressive, doesn't need any of them. The exposure from the show is enough already to boost her sales.

@@jonathanchen1026 it's a tax deduction to him, the more he gives to charity the less he pays in taxes so it's a go neutral to him. Giving to charity scales, if you make $100,000 and pay $30,000 in taxes and give $20,000 to charity then you only owe $10,000 in taxes so you get $20,000 back in your tax return because you already paid more than you owe.
“I’m investing on her”. This is why Mark Cuban is who he is. They all recognized her for her brilliant work, but no one, except for him, recognized she was much more valuable than the business itself.

She is great in branding: give a couple percent to supporting female artists and make a lot of money. She needed money to finance hear seo sea campagn (what she shortly phrased in the video) because nobody else advertise on this kind of puzzles (yet).

Such a high level of integrity - committing the decision for a deal to putting more money towards artists and that community is pretty amazing.
She has around 10 artists sharing $50k out of that $900k profit she makes at a very comfortable 40% margin.
That's a 5% commission for the artists, and even in this industry, this is nothing to write home about believe me.
Plus she probably won't have to pay employment taxes or benefits on that, because she was smart enough to pay her artists through a charity.

Honestly even without COVID I believe she would survive, my grandma passed in 2019 but she LOVED puzzles. We spent so much time at Walmart, fredmeyers, browsing Amazon, etc looking for puzzles. She would have loved this, the puzzles are beautiful and even the container they come in could be useful.
I agree though if she didn’t succeed - she’d find a new idea. She’s amazing and driven.

Mark was super cool and calm because it's mildly annoying of her to ask him to up the investment despite so much explanation. I understand that though, it's her company. What’s the difference between these and other pretty puzzles? I’ve seen gorgeous puzzles from different stores and they don’t cost anywhere near this price.
The pictures/art work for the puzzles, were actually painted by female artists.
- Painted by female artists (if you are interested in those kind of causes)
- Comes with a jar which is reusable
- Comes with glue and applicator which most cheap puzzles don't include
- Clear branding and upscale packaging

At that price I would Definetly buy some of these puzzles. I love art so I would enjoy putting them together then framing the art. There is a market for these for sure. Even after covid because art lovers pay lots of money for prints. Brilliant idea and it promotes new artists.
yeah, honestly the price is not bad.. she really has created a nice little operation. Once I saw the glass reusable containers and the kit it comes with to preserve it and also she was basically licensing artists work I was sure she was going to turn around and say these were $80 each

I love art and I love puzzles, but I don’t understand putting a puzzle on the wall. Take apart the puzzle so you can do it again later, and hang real art that doesn’t have puzzle piece shape cutouts all over it. This is basically a premium puzzle brand-it may work, idk. There’s a ton of competition and little to no moat. Scanning Amazon, there are thousands of cool looking puzzles prices at $8-$20 while she’s asking almost $50.
She's selling an experience. Many of her buyers are going to be women of a certain age and demographic. It's not the QVC crowd or frankly the Amazon crowd. She will likely do well with subscription service. Women enjoy connecting with others and having get togethers. Again note that it is in a glass bottle, not a plastic one. This is for the purists that not only recycle but don't want to have more plastic consumption in the world. This is for the affluent woman who has no problem shelling out $40/puzzle.

Counterpoint: she didn’t present the business need for the capital, outside of saying growth capital. We don’t get to see the whole exchange, so she may have talked about it but investors will want to know what the money will be spent on
