Ophiocordyceps sinensis commonly known as Yarsaghumba in Mountainous Nepal. it have great medicinal value and being used for such for generations. It also known as himalayan vaigra and is being collected intensively.
this is what we tibrtan called (yartsa-gunbu). it means in summer this appear as an grass, and in winter it transform as an insect(catterpillar). It is highly recommended medicine to cure many of diseases.
+sm753 I would think that they would have. Although frequently monks don't accept payment, or it could even be insulting to do so, so possibly not, in that scenario.
this is Mustang, Nepal; rarely does he say the name Mustang, let alone Nepal in this episode, and this guy doesn't even say the names of well known Annapurna and dhaulagiri mountain ranges to which he describes as just "difficult terrain". if this guy is trying to educate people about surviving in that region, he should at least let people know about what place he is talking. and caterpillar fungus, are you kidding me?? doesn't he know its called yarsagumba?? he shows the priest is making some kind of paste, and at last he eats yarsagumba as if its magic.
