No matter how many people bash Lars about his simple beats or sloppy drumming on live concerts etc. he is still a legend. Nearly all the current drummers grew up with listening to Metallica. He is one of the rare drummers out there who actually serves to music. Being a great drummer is not about doing flashy things or playing extreme difficult patterns. I always enjoyed his drumming in every album as a non-professional drummer myself. He has his own unique style, he is one of the guys who is behind what metal is today. I can see that his passion for drums & music never faded which is enough reason for me to respect him and the rest of the band. Does he have to die for people to appreciate him?
I love how Lars is putting so much effort in and James is just sitting there playing killer riffs with a total look of disinterest on his face. James Hetfield is still a fucking beast after all these years!
I love the man, but if he truly loves what he’s doing then he wouldn’t have just straight up stopped practicing and playing outside of Metallica all together after the 90s. Seems like at this point he just drums for the sake of being in a band
As terrible as he plays he'd make that kit suck at this point. lol I get your point though, that kit would makeup for a lot things because it was so incredible.
murilo ninj try to know about music properly then come to comment. Those people who got zero knowledge about drumming they can comment like this. Lars is all the way a great drummer. He is a legendary drummer who has written & played for some of those very best metal albums of all time.
Say what you want about Lars, but me personally I believe that he is a super under appreciated performer. Honestly, people who critique him don’t know the first thing on what he’s all about. I know he’s not the best drummer ever but he inspired me greatly. He is the reason why I started playing drums, and I can’t thank him enough for that.
Lars got me into drumming because of his energy and that 'yeah I know my limits but I can still put a groove together.' 15 years later I just wana put it out there. Thanks Lars
Notice the Hihats he's using for the Master tracks. They're 15" Sabian AA Rock hi hats--the same hats he used on the black album. Love the sound of those!! 🤘🏻💯

I dont care what anybody says about his ability, i believe this man has inspired more people to play drums than anybody else in the world (myself included). Whether you love him or hate him, you can't deny how integral he is to the song writing in Metallica (James himself said that for this record, spit out the bone was Lars's brainchild, and who doesn't love that song???), nor his influence on the drumming community of the world.
This is the most important thing about him. Even if he is a pretty average player he wrote and created music that moved millions. Great in his own way.
Lots of times it's what the engineer may request. Alot of drummers who aren't endorsed by Ludwig have used a black beauty snare to record albums. That snare is a studio legend favorite.
He’s been recording with Sabian hi hats since the justice album. That being said when in the studio you use whatever gives you the sound you’re looking for. I believe the black album was recorded on a Gretch set.
