Yo, thank you for posting this video! This helped me out a TON! For those that are in the same predicament, I would suggest watching this video 2-3 times to make sure you get the position of where bolts are located and where cables are connected. Easy to lose track of what goes where sometimes. This is doable, even if you’re not a mechanic by trade but can still use common sense and some tools. Use a zip lock bag if you need to so that you make sure shit doesn’t get lost. That ratchet wrench for the 10mm is a must if you have it. If you don’t be patient, that’s probably the only bolt that’s a pain in the ass to take in and out because it is sandwiched between the plastic and metal where there’s very little room to move. Things I would probably add to this list is: Zip Ties to tie down the cable connectors again back to the plastic frame. Pro Tip: After you finish putting the fan in and connecting the two cables and before assembling everything back, verify it works by turning your car on and putting on the AC to get this fan going right away. This will allow you to turn off your engine sooner so that you don’t accidentally burn yourself as you put the rest of the stuff back together. ETA: about 1.5-2 hours worth of work. I am not a mechanic by trade but I know how to do the basics. Hopefully this gives you an idea of what you’re in for.
I just changed my fan assembly. It took 2 hours for a first timer. I watched this video about 5 times and it was so correct with the information. I have a 2018 Nissan Rogue Sport. After watching this video, there were no surprises. Thank you so much for posting this video.
First time and only time, hopefully. I like comments like these. Gives people the confidence that have never done this before. It's doable. After all set and done it wasn't so bad was it? Really easy
Thanks for posting this! Had the fan issue in my 2017 rogue sport and with the parts shortage I ended up getting one on eBay for a really good price. Got the fan today, found your video and it literally helped me though the whole thing step by step! It was some work getting it done but your video helped a lot. Thank you!
Oh yeah with everything being on back order and these fans being such a high demand on top of that. Its such a long wait for them. I see these go out all the time. Yeah it's a struggle to get these out and back in cuz of the hoses and cuz it's so cramped. No problem and awesome that this helped.
Thanks so much for posting. Would have been lost without this video. It was 3+ hours for me with a couple of dropped/hard to find items in the engine bay. Ham hands.
Thanks for posting this. I used this and another video to figure out how to replace the fan on my 2019. This is crazy that so many people have this issue. Just FYI this took me WAYYYY longer than 1-2 hours. This took me closer to 5. I am not a mechanic, but this was for sure a lot more work than I thought it would be. The first half is the easy part, getting all the parts off. For me the hardest part was getting to the 10MM for the ac lines. I had to pry the plastics apart with screwdrivers. PROTIP: the 10MM on the fan is UNDERNEATH the plastic pipe. You will not be able to see it as you unscrew it. This one is super difficult. Also once you get everything disconnected and unscrewed you should LOOK FOR THE CLIPS AT THE TOP OF THE FAN. I couldn’t get the fan out until I watched another video that showed you have to take the clips off at the top and the fan comes loose. Also pay CLOSE attention to how you’re removing things because it’s a pain to put everything back together. Also buy clips ahead of time since so many will break trying to get them out.
Just made it on a European Nissan XTrail 1.6 DCI (T32) motor cooling Fan. This is Rogue equivalent in Europe. This video helped a lot, It is almost identical. I confirm it is very feasible in 3H with minimal tools and no mechanics experience. few differences to notice. - There are different air and water pipes in front of it and you actually cannot access the last 2 screws from above. They must be unscrewed from below the car, with a 10mm and it is the difficult part, hard to even see the screws, need a kind of gimbal, it also takes PH2 screwdriver, but it is pretty tight. That final part took like 1Hour for 2 persons. I used the picture of the new one to figure out where they are on the sides. After removing those 2 last screws, there is a clip on the external side of it, to gently press down, I probably broke one but this does not matter. - Some clips are tricky, most of the time is spent on that. I could keep them all in the end and reclip afterward. - pulling up the fan is not straightforward, but take your time and think it comes without forcing and hurting surrounding pipes. - The VALEO 698582 reference tells until 09/2015 when mine was 2017. I took it nevertheless for less than 200 Euros and it is same Ref PA6-GF30 than the original one. I still don't understand the 1500+ Euros bill that Nissan garage requested for this operation and I am glad I gave it a try. Note that before dying the fan has been very noisy and vibrating for a while, reason why I was sure it eventually died. To test it, when you put AC right after start it rotates gently, no need to wait for engine heat.
Thanks for sharing this video. It definitely helpd but I have just completed this job today in the UK on a European version (X-trail), so it was different. The US version looks a lot easier! It took about 4 hours! There was a wide air pipe that had to be removed and also the sump guard tray and the car was raised on axle stands. You can only remove the 2 lower screws on the fan from beneath the car on the EU/UK version. Absolutely no chance of getting at the screw from above. Getting the replacement fan in was challenging. Took about an hour with one above and one underneath the car. You have to take care as you could damage radiator/intercooler. I was only able to get one fan screw back in when the new one was installed. But this is enough IMO. Also we connected the new fan up and ran the AC to test before installing. We only used the tools recommended on the video
I used this or a similar video to bring everything I needed to replace the fan 4 years ago in my kid's 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport while it was parked at his college parking garage. The local Nissan dealer charged us $200 to diagnose the problem but waited for nearly 2 months as they couldn't get the part. He had taken the car back because the service advisor said it could be a long wait because of the pandemic shortages. I had found the aftermarket part for 10% of what the dealer quote was. Fast forward 4 years and I just gave myself a refresher course because the fan is not working again. Oddly enough, the aftermarket fan apparently lasts just as long as the OEM.
I have a 2019 rogue sv awd 2.5L and the fan does not turn on. It is the one with 2 (side by side) fans. I think the fix requires a new fan, but i am worried that i need to replace the resistors as i have heard they can be a problem. If i buy a new fan assembly, will the resistors come with it or will i need to reuse the old one? Appreciate your help!
Buying just the fans alone is probably optional? Most of the fan assemblies when bought come complete with shroud, fan, and resistor. I know the G37's don't get sold as whole. They are in pieces so you have to buy every little part. For this one though I'm sure the complete assembly is what they will sell you and probably the only thing available. The assemblies come with resistors already. Come with everything you need. You just replace/plug and play. Just make sure you tell them you want the complete fan assembly.
I think I had someone comment that they bought one from ebay. Just type "Nissan Rogue Sport Radiator Fan" it should take you to a bunch of options. Obviously get the one for your year. Click on the Make Sure Part Fits and fill it out. I would buy one that has warranty on it. Since it's an aftermarket and not OE they typically aren't as good, but if it has some sort of warranty then the better. If it fails withing months again I should get a new one. Check for reviews, shipping dates, reasonable pricing(not too cheap) because you get for what you pay for.
Took our 2017 Rogue to Midas and the dude tried charging me $1400 to 'test the components' and replace the fan lol... Did this today myself and it took me less than $100 and about 2 hours of work. That one 10mm on the top left side between the plastic and metal & the 10mm on the bottom of the fan took me a while. Tight squeeze! Good luck if you also decide to save $$$ and do it yourself!
Yeah that 10mm for the AC lines are in a tight space. This is what I aim for though. I want for the ones who don't want to spend that much for someone else to do it and just do it themselves. This is really not that bad after you put it all back. You realize that it was actually easy. Saving money and helping out is my goal. By the way. That dude was charging too much. That's crazy. Not even dealerships charge that much. Sometimes.
Hi I understand that there is 2 electrical sockets which socket is the one to see if the fan is working the one on the motor or the one on the side or do I need to connect both to the car battery to check? My fans not working I want to make sure it’s the fan and not the wirings thank you
Hi, bro. Even after replacing the fan in my 2017 Rogue Sport, I'm still having the same issue-the fan isn't working. I've also tried changing the fuses, but the problem persists. I had my car inspected by Nissan, and they gave me a quote of around $1500 to replace the fan with an OEM part, which is too expensive for me. Do you have any suggestions for a more affordable solution?
Where did you get this fan? And do you know how to check for power to make sure you are getting power to the fan? These have a relay for the fan I believe so. Maybe check that too. But if nissan looked at this then I'm sure they checked the fuses/relays for you so that's why they recommended an OE fan. It's possible you could have gotten a faulty fan
The fan is coming apart buddy. That's also an issue with these. The fan starts to separate from the shroud and it wobbles. Noisy fan needs replacement.
If I may complement, I had those strong vibration for a week or 2, then it died with red light and as you can imagine much more trouble. Had I known it was the last miles, I would have changed it earlier !
Whenever you finished installing it, it didn't seem so bad to do right? Like in the end you were like "that actually wasn't so bad" lol dealerships charge crazy just for that easy repair.
Make sure the tabs are getting released bud. After the bolts are off that are on the fan the last thing are some tabs at the bottom to be able to pull out the fan assembly
I’ve got a 2020 rogue making a vibrating sound when I turn off the car. Going to watch this video a few more times while the part comes in and attempt to replace it myself. Wish me luck 🫡
I'm assuming you had someone outside under the hood and look at the fan as soon as you turn off the car? It's really easy. I wish I had another rogue that way I do it step by step and you guys see it all. But this one still does it. Good luck!
Yes I’ve actually had this issue for a few months. It started with a weird squeaking noise I couldn’t pin point where it was coming from. And finally just recently the car started shaking and was able to visibly see the fan shaking a lot when the car was on and saw it tremble when I shut it off.
Fan was delayed in getting here but should arrive tomorrow. Wondering if I have to worry about the radiator hose and if I should drain out the coolant before starting work on replacement. Thoughts?
