  • Abandoned Susannah' Home Style Cooking - Cleburne, TX. Enjoy a look at this once popular restaurant in this little town just outside of Fort Worth, Texas. Based on photos I had seen, it appeared this was a well loved establishment. I wish I could have stopped by and enjoyed a meal. Sad to see that they closed.

    Back history time!!! Susannah's use to be in Weatherford in the early 90s. When I worked LJS my boss was pregnant and craved their food. They had really good food. Then the place they were renting went way up on the rent. So they left and went to Cleburn. It was the same store because the owners said they were moving it. It was a complete win for them all around. They owned the new location and it was closer to home for them. They did have some great food. A possibility is that the owners have passed away. They were either in their 40s or 50s when they were here. If I remember right I believe it was their daughters name.

    I used to come here with my grandparents and parents to eat breakfast. The sign is still up and I've wondered what it was like inside after it closed. They used to have rustic decorations.

    There used to be three Susannah's Home Style Cooking restaurants. They were located in Granbury, Cleburne and Weatherford and founded by Jose Vasquez, Jr. He also owned Jose's Mexican Restaurants in Cleburne, Granbury, Stephenville, and Burleson. He used to play the guitar for his customers.

    • @MarciaDiehl-wy5rw

      I grew up in Cleburne and Jose's was a great Mexican food restaurant. And I remember when the place first opened on Main Street in the really old house that was torn down after he moved into the newer location across from the old shopping center on the corner of Williams and Main.

    Hi Wallie! Good find. I and others that commented before me think this was originally built as a Bonanza. So that makes it about a 60 year old building. Bonanza was a steak house chain named after the TV western from the late '50s to the early '70s which one of the stars was Dan Blocker as Hoss. He was the owner or one of them. They used to be up here in Western PA and Eastern Ohio.

    • @jackson5116
      @jackson5116 Год назад +1

      It wouldn't be that old, because he's not in Indiana. This is a 70's/80's design, so it's closer to 50 at the oldest.

    I live there in cleburne and I LOVED Susannah’s. However, I forgot about it over time to the point I accidentally called it Suvannah’s instead. It’s still here in cleburne but I don’t know if it still is in business. Last time I went was 2019/18. Beautiful times. Also our Nolan River mall out there sucked balls. It didn’t even have a hot topic or Spencer’s that’s how tiny it is. We recently got a Raising Canes restaurant around the Susannah’s area so now our town is growing more now.

    We miss Susannahs! It was owned by Jose and his brother Raymond, that also owned La Fiesta on north main. Over the years they had several locations. Some in Granbury and some in Cleburne. Jose retired. He also sold La Fiesta. They are still open. The cook for the past 20 years is still there and I think it's him and his wife that bought it. Good food. We use to eat breakfast several times a week at Susannahs. They were having a hard time getting good employees cause the current administration in Washington is trying to put everyone on welfare, so it's easier to stay home than work. The cook quit and went up the street to West End Grill, a buffet place. R&K is about the only good place left in Cleburne to eat a good breakfast! Sad. :(
