- Abandoned Whataburger - Abilene, TX. Enjoy a look at this original A-frame location that dates back to the 1960s. This is what Whataburgers used to look like before time took its toll and caused the company to change their design and allow for more dining in rather drive up style service. Anyway, I know this is a shorter video but I hope you enjoy.

I'm a native of Texas, and have seen so many of these old whataburger buildings converted into mexican restaurants. Really cool to see a closed abandoned one!
ruclips.net/video/JtBUKw6QPiI/видео.html
I've seen them converted into used car lots.
Both Mexican Restaurants and Car Lots
I live in Abilene and I see this all the time and always wanted to explore it thx so much guys!
I also live here in Abilene, TX. I'm very familiar with this exact location of the old Whataburger building.
The one I worked at in Arlington, TX in '82 was an original A frame. The building is still there, but it's been a family owned pizza place for decades. It's now painted red, white and green.
Wallie's Buc-ee Beaver giggle, Kayla's goofy faces! I don't need to watch TV because these two provide much entertainment and pick my spirits up! Just what is needed during these trying times.
I'm grateful to hear we're able to make your day a little brighter. TV is way too expensive these days anyway.
No way that is literally the 70 year old abandon Whataburger that someone filmed on TikTok good job Wally for finding this
That looks like a really old building, really cool.
It oddly reminded me of the Heman movie that came out in the 1980s they had a chicken place that looks almost like this building.
It had speaker boxes like Sonic had. You order and they bring it out. Then you would take your food and go to the drive in at the end of Mockingbird Lane back to the north of that whataburger. Much simpler times back then.
It’s rare to see one of these restaurants abandoned.
Also, that’s such a unique location! I can’t believe they had to close down this amazing location :(
WallieB26, I thought that was really left there for you! I love whataburger too! Really loved and enjoyed your video! WallieB26, that's awesome they gave you that #26!
I grew up just a few blocks from this old building. Went to eat there when i was a kid i know it was closed in the early 90s.used to ride our bikes around the building.
You got me !! Great video,, thank-you Wallie and Kayla !
At some Whataburger in Fort Worth, the manager is screaming at an employee: "You gave a random customer our number 26??!! YOU'RE FIRED!!"
lmaooo
I’ve lived here my whole 53 years. We ate here a lot when I was a kid. That location probably closed in the late 70’s or 80’s.
Lived here most my life. I don't remember it ever opened as a kid in the 80's. but i always loved the building. It was a staple in abilene.
That was neat that you found a Whataburger number 26! ❤😘👍 I enjoyed your video! It was awesome! Thank you so much! WallieB26, you are awesome!
Thanks for the memories. My husband was born and raised in Abilene.
That was the first location in Abilene. The front brick part and the restrooms were added later. Burger were .25 cents when it opened.
That was 26 kinds of fun! Yep, you got me. Loved it. LOL
that's a real unique building design, I've never seen any like it till now ...thanks for posting
Great video. I love Kayla's shirt!!
Bhatawurger on Mockingbird, still stands today. I drive by it daily.
Ok, you got me with the #26 there! I seriously thought that was there already just like you were initially making it out to be, lol
Also, that laugh you did at the end back in the car almost sounded Goofy-like and that made me almost do a laugh like that too!
I worked at the last original what a burger in Ft.Meade Fla. It's now a John's restaurant
That would be a beautiful building to eat at
I want a Whataburger on the Las Vegas Strip (or close to it at least). They need to give In N Out a run for its money.
Until the day comes where they can staff these stores, it would be best to wait.
I grew up in Abilene and used to eat there once a week. Abilene High School is down the road so it was a lunch stop for me and my friends. My girlfriend even worked at that one for a while.
Where is this if you remember? I live in Abilene.
@@AbileneExplorer It used to be on Mockingbird between 10th and 12th street. I haven't been to Abilene in some time so I don't know if it is still standing.
@@av5586 wow I'm close to there
@@AbileneExplorer maybe this will interest you too. The original restaurant Taco Bueno was at 2549 S. First St. and operated until a new restaurant was opened on North First Street. The building is still there but I don't know what type of business it is now. I worked there as a teenager.
@@av5586 okay and also I found the waterburger it's really close in between 10th and 12th lol
That's cool of them to give you that item.
I find abandoned places and I live here too. I only went in 2 abandoned houses and I wish I could go in more.
I used to go to this location as a kid in 1983 I’m 56 years old now and I loved the bacon cheese burger with onions and jalepeno
I know where this old Whataburger building is located at. I just knew by the Baptist church that was behind it. It's in the 1000 block of North Mockingbird not to far from Abilene High School.
Yes I thought you seriously found that by the building you got me Wally
Never thought I'd see a place that I'm like 2 to 3 minutes away from or so from on a random YT video😂
I'm not going to lie you had me when you showed the number 26
Good find wallie and Kayla I love whataburger this building is awesome 👌 👏 👍 😍 💖 🙌 👌 👏 👍
Whataburger has the best cookie
If you go back to ABILENE, check out the abandoned Mack Eplen's restaurant..... similar to Whataburger.
I mistook Mack Eplens for a Mr. G's! Man.. that was tavorite buger!!!
Yup there’s a lot of places in Abilene Texas that are abandoned tell this day I live in Abilene Texas
A lot of the old whataburger buildings who had the cone shaped roofs are being abandoned in Texas. They’re upgrading now.
said (what....?)you got me real good WallieB26 hi kayla, and wallie
My family moved to Texas in the 80's & there was an "A frame" Whataburger in Pasadena.
Thanks for taking us all along on yalls travels!
i cant wait to try whataburger. I think they are building one in my state. :)
Yes Wallie. You tricked me lol I was like is he really about to take it?!
This is just an idea. I use it when I want info on a building, or an area of interest. Contact the county government site handbook at the "GIS mapping" section, and look up the parcel number and it should tell you who the owner is. Contact them, let them know what you do, and they might let you in to see the inside. I e had good luck with that here in Yavapai County, Arizona
Well I'm seeing this a year later but... I ate there a time or two as I grew up in Abilene. In fact I was married in the church you see in the background . It is also an a-frame building. It was Zion Lutheran back then. Thanks for the memories! Haven't been back in almost 20 years.
as an abilene resident i can confirm we have no jack in the box. we did and it closed. we’re fuckin lame man
this is great ...
Really really cool and awesome. I'm glad it's still standing
That building architecture is very unique
thanks for sharing this one wallie this is a pretty cool video love the building
It’s actually been closed as long as I could remember like 1998
I live in corpus and there is a old whataburger it got a little bad there was a little mold on the roof if you go to TX go to corpus it’s by HAB and it has the old sign so go check it out
Good video! Wallie! What a different looking kind of place! Must have been something when it was open! You did get me, when you found that Whataburger Number 25 table tent! Cool!
Crazy something I’ve seen everyday my whole life some people are actually fascinated by this old design whataburger
Same I live in Abilene to
I really like the old school architecture on the abandoned Whataburger! As I watched the video, I pictured in my mind, people sitting in their cars waiting for car hops to bring their food out to them and hooking trays on the car door windows. As for the table tent, yes I fell for that joke. Good one, Wallie. Here in Weirton,WV, we had 3 restaurants that had car hops, Dog N Suds, A & W Root Beer stand (minus Long John Silvers), and Elby's Big Boy. I really miss those days of sitting in the car and ordering your food and having car hops bring your food out to you and hooking the tray on the car door windows. Cool! Have a Whataburgerlicious Day!
Amazing Video! Thanks WallieB26 👍
Looks like a old a&w root beer 🍺 i admit i have never heard of whataburger
They had a cool church looking building right behind it shapes similar to that whataburger, I thought you saw it😁
Hello my friend.
I actually live in Abilene and it been closed every since I was born in 07
Totally got me! I was thinking that should be your new thumbnail.
I live here and that building has sat empty so long I doubt anyone would fix it especially the area it's in
I swear if they even rebuild this building to a new Whataburger then I'll go there
I was amazed to find out there still is a DRUG EMPORIUM (remember that chain?) in Abilene which is owned by independent businesspeople who must have bought the rights to the Drug Emporium name after the chain went out of business 18 years ago! Not completely sure but I think the building (which actually WAS an actual Drug Emporium store opened in the 80's as part of the then-popular chain) might be a former TG&Y Family Center store. Next door is a Planet Fitness which definitely is a former SAFEWAY (with the classic 60's Marina design) and was a bingo parlor for many years after Safeway left. Also the KOHL'S in Abilene was downsized a few years back to make room for an ALDI store (believe it or not, this happened in many locations all over the country, as part of a Kohl's-ALDI partnership) I wonder if there once was a MERVYNS in the Abilene area because Mervyns was definitely very similar to Kohl's (but ironically was owned by TARGET at one point) and in fact lots of former Mervyns stores in California were turned into Kohl's stores.
I live down the street from there drive down mockingbird all the time. Pretty kool.
You did get me I won’t lie
Oh man... I was born in Abilene, I went back there a few years ago on business after not having been there for like 15+ years, I remember this building, I think it was empty but I don't remember it looking quite this decrepit. I was on a business trip though, not really a chance to look at it.
Cool 😎
Believe this is on mockingbird lane in Abilene
I thought you pulled one heck of a magic trick with the table tent! Move over Penn & Teller lol
There should still be one in Corpus Christi somewhere around Gollihar amd Kostorez if I remember correctly. It's been awhile since I've been down there. If you want some real what a burger history the original burger stand is still up on Staples st across from Walmart. They use it as a storage shed unfortunately.
Great video Wallie Whataburger is the greatest and yes you did get me
Hey wallie I Lubbock tx there is another a frame Whataburger. It currently has a place in it and has been several buisness since it closed in the the 80
Awesome video wallie!
Ive ate at this location MANY times as a child. Its been closed for over 25 years. I still live in Abilene, I see this bldg several times a week. A lot of my friends from HS worked there. Right in that same area is an old Burger Chef that has lived through many different restaurants and is now about to become a Dominoes. And you may have seen the Dairy Queen also. That DQ has been there as long as the Whataburger. There was another original A frame on the other side of town that was a used car lot and was recently torn down. Right there were you filmed this used to be a really good area, unfortunately now blighted.
Woo How did you find a Whataburger Number Wallie, That's a first All right!
Awesome 👌 video
You genuine excitement of contagious.
I miss the old Whataburger color scheme with orange, white, and blue. I got myself worn out by binging on those burgers after many, many late nights at work and no longer enjoy them.
Funny that same area use walk go to store my grandma before I move to different area in Abilene
It looks like the slope on that A frame is shallow enough that someone could literally climb up one side and down the other.
i wonder why it was closed? They are doing great in Alabama and Florida!
In Austin on Cameron road there is a whataburger that looks just like this that's still open.
It looks a whataburger sonic drive in
You don't see many buildings like that anymore today
Hi nice video every store going out of business that's sad👍👍
Just last week when this video came out I ate at a whataburger in Jacksonville Florida while I was on my way to st Augustin and they gave us a whataburger pez dispenser.
Nice video Wallie I love Whataburger
Awesome find Wallie! There’s 2 open Jack in The Box in Ohio! Both are in Cincinnati.
They started in Corpus Christi Texas
There is an old what a burger in Huntsville texas that sat empty for a while! Now it's use as a used car lot I think!
Whataburger is life I live in Wisconsin and will drive to Oklahoma to have my Whataburger omg !!!
Cool
There is an urban legend that a Texas police department was ordered by their chief to stop using Whataburger numbered tents for the purpose of crime scene photos, like marking bullet casings...but use the ones specifically for the purpose.
Yeah you got me pretty good
the next time you are near Mesquite,Tx, stop by the Whataburger off Belt Line and Kearney if you want to eat at an A frame location.
the first pic you used of an A frame Wb was the one I just described...lol
Window trays to hold your order
You got me on that one 🤣
It was a flower shop and a car lot
Like where they put the bathrooms! There is a taco bell in Ypsilanti MI that had there bathrooms between the side door and drive thru. It was back before 2010 thou
Looks. Like what Aand w. Look like
